I'm supprised you didn't spend 10 hours trying metronome to see if electrify would be called.
it seems there about ~800 moves metronome can call, which would mean after only 1000 metronome calls you'd have a 71% chance of calling any particular move so you could be 71% sure electrify is/isn't callable

Just started the video and can’t wait for the discovery that crits don’t stack with attack increases in gen 1

A UA-camr? Not doing research on what the videos supposed to be about? more likely than you’d think
also disappointed, the bulbapedia description says it right there too (“for a critical hit, all modifiers are ignored”)
@@ReaSeByit's really silly since it's a big part of gen 1 battling which has been parroted to death.
he probably assumed it as "all defense raising modifiers ingnored" but he definitely underestimated the gen 1 jank balance.
Then again, maybe he considers this a crit and thus ignores it, like integer overflows? And rollout storage?

Okay so from what I've seen so far there's:
* crits ignore stat boosts in gen 1
* stats are capped at 999 in gen 1
* Rhydon is only at +4
* eggs only started hatching at lv 1 in gen 4

* Electric Terrain only provides a 1.3x boost in gen 9

In generation 1 critical hits ignore all stat changes, even ones that would increase the attack's damage. You doubled it for the critical hit, that means you need to divide dodrio's attack by 4.
Obviously you should just halve the damage and remove the critical hit.
EDIT: I think it's also worth mentioning that for the target Paras to exist, you'd need to breed it in gen 2 then trade it to gen 1. Otherwise you could only get a level 8 paras.
You'd probably want to attack a level 8 Paras anyway because of the badge boost glitch. Badge boosts don't apply in link battles.
also, in gen two all stats (or a least attack) are capped to 999 regardless of boosts

How much you wanna bed he kept these flaws in the video on purpose because the engagement is through the roof as a result?
My personal bet is to believe that the video is made in good faith, and just that considering the time it takes to make the video, a bunch of more niche stuff were missed without realising it.
I'll also note that, not sure if it has anything to do with it or not but it just happens to be released on the last day of November with a sponsor, so there is a chance, that it was also pushed by time if the sponsor was for November but also possible that it has nothing to do with it at all.
@@tomrejor4842 He already made similar videos where he also made a bunch of mistakes that he had to correct later. Either he's not smart or he is smart and decided to keep the flaws for engagement or he is smart, but rushed the video out.
Unfortunate that the early gens were rushed:
- Crits ignores stat changes in Gen 1
- Gen 1 and 2 caps stats at 999
- You cannot get a lv 1 Yanma in gen 3, only lv 5
For some gen, there are some glitches that allows for truly degenerate damage rolls.
This is ignoring stat caps and overflows I believe just to create the mathematically highest damage. All this is correct obviously through

1:35 “Psyspam” means a team made up with a lot of Psychic types. Psyspam is also commonly associated with teams built with/around Expanding Force and Psychic Terrain though. Some examples include Indeedee Armarouge, Indeedee Hatterene, Indeedee Exeggutor, and recently Male Indeedee solo (hm I’m starting to see a pattern). Psyspam is known in VGC for being a “haha funny nuke go brrr” team which many people frown upon due to the spammability of Expanding Force under the right conditions.
16:34 Also, wasn’t the Terrain boosted nerfed to 1.3x at one point?
The terrain boost nerf happened in gen 8
Gamefreak decided that since nobody was using terrains in gen 6 they would make abilities to set them up (the Tapus) but they became too strong, so they nerfed them (except misty terrain)

Lol, well spotted
Keep the enemies close type of gameplay
If all overflows and caps are to be ignored, I actually found a setup for Gen 1 and 2 (I don't think you could do it in Gen 3, as wild Double Battles don't exist there) that'd do more; have a wild Ditto transform into your Paras/Yanma as part of the setup, so that badge boosts apply, including the type-based ones in Gen 2.
Oh, and, a level 5 Ledyba would be the best option for Gen 3, since at the minimum it'd have 7 Defense, which would become 1 at -6 stat stages.
Wild pokemon can't swap into other party members, though, so how would the existing Gen 2 setup with substitute work? Or does that still do more than -6 defense?
@@twoloavesofbread Ah, you're right, I didn't consider that. Technically, it IS possible if you get super lucky and have Rhydon use Metronome (by teaching it as a TM in Gen 1) to call Defense Curl, and have the Ditto copy your Yanma that knows Endure and have it successfully use it four times in a row (a 1/64 chance).
Also Badge Boost is fun and all but Attack stats are capped to 999 in gen 1 and 2, so after 3 swords dance you already reached it and the badge boost does nothing (at least from my understanding of badge boost)
@Maelmc_ I know, but I'm ignoring that here, like all overflows, just as a hypothetical.

it's funny that we're celebrating not getting a new game or release this year lmao
It's a rare w
I was blindsided by the NL inclusion at 1:14. You get a like from a former he's bald enjoyer.
I think it might be possible to get a better number for Gen 8... you can have a Pokémon that's 32× weak to fire by using Tar Shot and Forest's Curse on a Snom with Fluffy or Dry Skin. That would make V-Create a 5760 base power move, as opposed to Rollout's 3840.
Heat Crash with the doubled damage from the target using Minimize is even stronger than V-Create, effectively 7680 base power. We choose Fluffy over Dry Skin because the multiplier is higher, but Heat Crash usually makes contact, which would cancel the Fluffy bonus. To avoid this, we hit a substitute, because that never makes contact.
If I've done the math right, this comes out to 1,081,085,184 damage.
@thesharpestknife nice thinking!
When's the extended director's cut where you spend like 20 seconds on every individual step for each gen

@17:45. That tweet took me far longer to understand than I thought. Im at a LOSS for words
It would be fitting if Game Freak, though leaving out any pokémon that learns it, left electrify in the game and had it be metronomable (great adjective)
i feel like not enough people are appreciating the fact he cut his roommates eyebrow for the sponsor😭😭

Saying this ahead of time that the base damage in Gens 1 and 2 is capped at 999, though possibly with other stuff like STAB or type matchups boosting it from there. In the former case at least, STAB is applied first, then type matchups, so the real highest damage is 5992. But hey, big numbers make brain happy, and what's REALLY more important at the end of the day?
Also, if you wanna be REALLY pedantic, the Gen 1 and 2 ones are wrong regardless, since stats cap out at 999 almost always, and due to some weird quirks I won't get into, attempting to replicate this in the actual game would make the game SOFTLOCK since it tries to divide by 0.
Oh, and not to mention, eggs still do hatch at level 5 in Gen 3. It wasn't until Gen 4 that they hatch at level 1.
and he put a crit in gen 1, which ignores stat boosts. You can't have both stat modifiers and crits at the same time
@HopUpOutDaBed OH TRUE I DIDN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT THAT (I'm working on my own max damage in each gen, not counting overflows and stuff but taking into account other mechanics like many of Gen 1's bugged ones lol)
Don't you mean hardlock?
@mr.cauliflower3536 No, since that refers to a crash. The game still RUNS when this happens, it just can't proceed and forces the game to be reset back to the last save.
@@awesomelink2347 The game runs but isn't playable. That's a hardlock. A crash is a crash.
According to Bulbapedia, Electrify cannot be selected in a battle for Gen 9, so it almost certainly cannot be called by Metronome.
bulbapedia is not a reliable source for in game mechanics
Many moves like this could actually be called by metronome, toxic thread for example if is only learned by the Ariados line, and that could be called
It can't be selected because no Pokémon learns it. Doesn't mean it's not in the game files and callable by Metronome
Nothing in gen 9 can learn Cut. It's not available as a TM nor the in level-up learnset of every single Pokémon available in gen 9.
Yet, you can still use Cut through Metronome, the move is still programmed into the game.
Electrify is likely the same.
You miscalculated for Gen 1. Critical hits ignore stat increases.

“We’re not getting anything this year and that’s a good thing”
Every single tf2 player:
Were badge boosts counted for Gen 1? The badge boost glitch specifically could massively increase the damage dealt.
I wonder if you did everything right, you could overflow as you could have stat increasing and reducing moves from the user and wild pokemon.
That makes me wonder how the badge boost would work for items. Like a scenario where an enemy pokemon uses leer twice, the trainer uses x defend. Does the X Defend nullify the badge boosts or could you go infinite?
Figured out my own question. Stat cap as people have mentioned would result in this not being an issue.
It can't since you still hit the stat cap (which is 999, and he screwed up by not including it)
That balatro clip made me remember that time I had a simultaneous Salmonella and Campylobacter infection
"No Yanmas were harmed during the making of this video."
In gen 7 you can perform the Rollout Storage Glitch to get the 32 times multiplier to damage to any move you can by simply hitting a Mimikyu with Rollout/Ice Ball to break its Disguise, then lock out of rollout by successfully using it for the next 4 turns. And now your following attack will have a 16 times multiplier without defense curl and a 32 times multiplier with.

Best advert for a sponsor yet dawg
I think the easiest way to test if a move exists in any particular game would be to use a ROM of it, use pkhex to edit a pokemon to have this move (pkhex does not care if the mon can naturally learn the move) and try it out in game. (Yes you have to try it in game, the pkhex and the game will absolutely let pokemon with non-existent moves exist but will only tell you that it won't work once you try to use it in battle)
Dragonite can use sky attack with mimic and X attacks if that makes you happier
Well, then it couldn't use Swords Dance, since you can't use items in link battles, but non-link battles would be better anyway because of the badge boosts. Plus if you really needed to, Metronome is an option.
A final graph of all the gens would have been nice
Between Shuckle and Yanma, never underestimate the Bug type's ability to stay relevent to highest damage discussions; whether it's by dealing or recieving it.
I sure hope this hiatus actually gives them time to make a solid game. I don't really care how revolutionary the game is I just want a game that works and won't break day one.
13:45 the funniest part of this joke is that Silvally is actually available in swsh
7:45 why +4 not +6
Its not +4 but ×4 since thats the multiplier, it just makes it easier to see
I might be wrong but in gen 2 I think the max a stat can be is 999 and would overflow if it was higher
@@hamdiman5692 I think they mean +4 stages, which results in a x3 multiplier. You can see rhydon only has a x3 multiplier instead of x4.
And I assume that’s just an error on the visual representation. He says x4 while explaining the set up and showing the math. Yanma was dead no matter what so it’s a pretty minor detail
@@crimsontrickster6636oh ok I didn't catch that
Basically it's cause the game's max attack stat is 999 due to a bug, can't be more, and if you go over 1024 attack the game will reset it down, like if your attack is 1032 it'll become 8, that's why boosting further would've dropped his attack, so +4 it was

Gen 1, what about the badge boost glitch to increase attack further, if x4 doesn't get it to max attack it can do more still.
If we only calc what it should be able to get to if the game calculated it properly, that would easily be hundreds of thousands in attack stat i think?
Raising and lowering non-attack stats until you run out of pp (and your opponent) would keep triggering the glitch. (Stats do cap at 999 in gen 1 though so this would all be if the game could count further)
The only good thing about the wait is that Rule34 pokemon still updates daily!
Just couldn't stay away, huh. We here at the syndicate knew you'd be back.
Gen 1 crits ignore ALL stat changes, even beneficial ones. But this can be made up for by the badge boost glitch, at least in the actual game, wherein every time the player’s Pokémon has its stats modified, all stats (assuming all badges are held) are increased by 12.5% (I’m not sure if there’s a limit or what it would be to this boost)
I really don't have a idea of how you can represent 8 billions of damage in a visual way, is the ultrakill of overkill.
King The Luck in real life? He looks exactly like his avatar! So realistic!
Electric Terrain is only x1.3 boost to electric attacks. It’s been like that since Gen 8.
Also BBND was absolutely reasonable. The National Dex is one of the only reason why you’d play Pokemon over other monster catching games since Pokemon was the only game franchise that let you use literally everything from before.
Additionally we were promised better animations and other means of compensation for Dexit that were ultimately false or never came to life.
Those false promises were hiding the real reason Dexit happened: because they were still refusing to break from their ridiculously crunched 3-year schedule despite the fact that they were clearly incapable of keeping up with it. It was a way to cut down on the amount of testing work they had to do, because they still weren't willing to accept that they needed a fundamental change in release schedule philosophy.
MAYBE they've finally learned. Even if they have, they're probably still not going to have a mainline game with all Pokémon available, but maybe not forcing a 3-year turnaround will at least let the games have better technical performance.
It's also because Pokemon games can't be over 4 GB in size, and having 3D models and cries for over 1,000 Pokemon would push past that file size limitation
You could’ve avoided all that setup in Gen 8 and just use a normal Zacian set for 999 septillion damage
