Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

Never thought of unbolting the leg in that situation. So simple, yet so effective. Thanks for uploading this. Norm.
I think if you can pull a bearing off by hand, you're Superman. I've never been that fortunate, mine are always rusted or fused on. Great tip on the puller.
A couple of tips for you.
Throw away that bearing....
They are not expensive and in my experience ( have pulled thousands some as large as a foot in diameter ) the act of removal can cause brinelling damage.
Paint the winding with Glyptal 1201A to extend the insulation life.
If greasy wash with warm soapy water and dry it in an oven ( start at lowest setting and slowly raise the temp to around 100c over the course of 2 hours, bake an additional hour and allow to cool slowly.
Brilliant, thanks for sharing! Now the next thing, how do you take that black fan thing off underneath the bearing?
Smashing tutorial :-)
I bought a similar tool when i was 16 (looooong time ago) and they called it a sprocket/gear puller, it looked almost identical but the pressure bolt had a point and ball in the end.
I used mine for my old puch maxi moped bearings, they were identical to the one you just showed, fantastic little tool for the money. :-)
Even simple tools can be really handy.
great vid :-)
DONY YOU ARE MY NO.1 GOTO GUY WHEN I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH ANYTHING YOU ARE THE BEST! SCREW THE REST! LOVE THE NEW LOGO KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
Great video. I watch all your videos ... like online training. Thank you. I just recently salvaged a backpack blower my son was going to throw out. Thanks again and keep up the good work.
Probe Team99 thanks
At the motor shop we used to heat the bearing on an upside down clothes iron. The iron heats up quickly and provides a nice flat surface to support the bearing. Rule of thumb, heat till you first smell the oil getting hot then flip it over, continue heating till you just see the first wisps of smoke from the oil. As a rule of thumb. Experiment with used bearings till you've got a feel for the temperature, heating time and working time.
Pretty ingenious tip with the jawpuller and trick w/the bolt. Thanks as always!
pulling against the outer race can stress the cage and ballbearings. splitter with a shoulder would press against the inner race
If you were going to put in a new bearing or reuse the old one. heating bearing in an oven for a few minutes would expand the bearing journal and putting it on with just a leather glove. you could shrink the shaft
Educative video 👏. Thanks for sharing
hey dony, you ever do any video's on valve adjustment for honda eu3000is, how to adjust valves
yes depending on how much pressure was put on it, in this case a bearing puller would not fit to remove this bearing
thanks, i wish you the best, and yes everybody makes mistakes and we learn from it, that's what's important
Thanks I never thought about taking puller apart dont remember but I think I had that problem once
Dennis from Wisconsin
hI
a 5.5 b&s lawnmower today after running it went to gas it up when pulled starter gas squirted out od gas cap vent after 3 pulls it ran ok then same thing again but it rus fine after starting ???
thanks Dennis from Wisconsin
great vid Don ! , can you use an air tool on the puller ? TY
Thanks for the vid. I thought the end of the armature was a Hex screw that was holding the bearing in place. I could never get it to loosen. My problem is the bearing fell apart and the center of the bearing is stuck on the armature. Im dealing with a Delta Mitersaw. Gonna give your way a try...
hey Don, in your opinion which makes a better generator engine: Tecumseh or Briggs and Stratton??
I got to get me one of those pullers, Thanks again.
Nice puller tip!
ok i'll revise the vid description, thanks
Very nice. In my situation though, I have a bearing that has another shaft inside of it, and both are free from the spindle they were on. How can I remove the pressed shaft from the bearing without damaging either. Using the puller, I would have nothing to push or pull against. Does that make sense? I almost need a spindle or rod with a flared collar or something to insert and tap against the shaft to push it out of the bearing, unless there's another way you can think of. Thanks!
You are very smart
I learn from you a lot.thanks
Great Video Dony, Are the pullers any good from Princess Auto
Thank you for your assistance - very helpful.
Nice job
thanks for watching
Nice video, but I think you should never reuse a pulled Bearing, specially one that has been pulled by the opposite race, in this case, the outer race. However, this is or may be a rare exception.
thanks steve
I have the same problem, except that the gripper feet are way too big to get under the small armature bearing on my PC router. I am forced to cut off almost half of these 3 feet. It's a cheap puller that got used about 18 years ago, so since nobody seems to sell small bearing pullers, I have to do something to modify this unit. I need to replace this bearing so my 50 yr old router will be serviceble again for another 50 years.
hi donyboy i got a list of number from 3.5hpclassic can you tell me what code means and how do i tell what year it is im fairly new at working on lawn mowers
i bought a generator from lows 10 years ago because of a hurricane threat that did not hit, so i never have put gas and oil in it. how would i go about starting it up ? thanks
thank for vedio,,,,,,,, sir how to tuning for genarater carbrater for extra petrol save and good milleage ples answer
Excellent video Thanks
I'd like to see then how a new bearing would go back onto the shaft. Do you just use a deep well socket of proper size and hammer it down evenly until it seats or is there some other special tool?
The socket on the inside race is usually the best bet, but often you need additional help. I recently did a few of these and put the shaft in the freezer and heated the inside race with a propane torch, not too much though or all the grease burns up inside or melts the seals. Also, I have heated a coffee can with motor oil and heated it up on the gas grill and put the bearing in there for say 5 minutes.
Dixon Cider Thanks a lot for that reply, Ron. That makes perfect sense.
@@dixoncider7256 I think this is a good and safe way to heat a small bearing. I will take a cut off beer can and put a bit of 30 wt motor oil heating it on a propane camp stove or on an electric kitchen stove. I can put the armature in the freezer for 30 minutes to "shrink" the bearing shaft. Then pull out the warmed bearing and press it onto the cold shaft. My trick will be to find a socket the right size as the inner race of the bearing. I will be a happy dude if this all works. (My router has been down since early March)
thank you for video so useful
thanks for watching, greetings from canada
thanks dude!
A 1 inch cheater bar / breaker bar with socket would work gives good leverage . The air tool an socket you have to go slow wear cloves an safety glass's ,but much faster.
i used to dislike those pullers until now, because i know i can disassemble them.
thank you sir!
Nice video
Do you every use an impact wrench on your pullers?
How do i get this puller?
It’s best to replace it once puller used to remove it
Damage brging
some are, just have to look out for the quality
Some guys use the spit test if a little dab of spit boils on your finger when you touch the bearing its hot enough.
The more scientific method is to use a proper wax crayon ( made for this with specific metling temperatures )
I never tried the iron trick but that sounds like it would work well.
I used an inudction warmer or Rod oven to warm things back in my motor shop days. Today I use the wife's oven and make sure she is not home to catch me.
very rarely
Good Video !!
I to have one of those cheapo generators....... I am trying to fix it without returning it....... I got the pilot bearing off.......... but I cant figure how to get the fan off ????? any ideas???
how do you remove the long bolt that holds on the armature
you can but you have to be careful
Excellent
Excuse me, do you have the electric diagram for this generator? I have this one but i don´tknow how conect it. Please help me.
thanks
what is the name and part number of the puller?
Hey Donny how to you get a nut loose and off the end of an engine's crankshaft. For example, I have a Tecumseh 5.5 hp snowblower engine. I removed the engine from the machine, but the pulley and nut is on the end of the shaft. I cant loosen the nut because the crankshaft is turning. I already tried getting the bolt of by removing the front recoil and putting a wrench on the bolt holding the flywheel recoil cup on. When I went to loosen the bolt on the end of my crank, instead of that coming loose, the bowl nut came loose, so I had to tighten the bowl nut back up. Back where I started...... I'm having a hard time getting this off. I need to be able to stop the crank from turning to loosen the nut on the end of the shaft. How do you do it, there are large pulleys in my way on the shaft. How do you do it?? Thank's. (I don't have an impact wrench).
sometimes a nylon rope through the spark plug hole locks up the piston, be careful though
Thank's, luckily I was able to get a pair of vise grips to lock onto the washer behind the bolt and it stopped the crank from turning and gave me the leverage I needed to loosen that bolt and remove the pulleys. For the flywheel cup nut, that is supposed to be tightened back to 50 or 55 foot pounds torque if I remember correctly on these little engine right?
Sir I have the same type of generator but it is all ripped into parts plz show me the whole assembling the whole generator. plz
Where to get new bearing
good cospt thnk u sir
thank you...
good idea,taking the claw off,
i prefer briggs
greetings,
it's because there are jealous people, usually other shop owners who don't know how to make videos, but hey they are watching my videos! lol
