As per usual, you have made yet another great video! Unfortunately, no pick set or practice lock was gifted to me for Christmas, but as my birthday is today, the mail has yet to come, so I'm not sure if I'll be getting some or not, but considering not many know that I'm into locksport, I doubt it. I would be thrilled if you happen to have a practice lock and a decent pick set(hopefully with some type of Ratyolk pick and tok wrenches) that you would consider selling to me, that would be an awesome birthday gift! I'd pay for shipping as well if you'd consider it. Thanks for your great work and I hope you have an awesome 2020!

Thank you Lock Noob for bringing me this satisfaction since the tutorial book that came with my set made no sense 🤣
My boss bought a lockpicking set because we had a desk we didn't have the key to and he offered it to anyone who wanted to learn and try to open the desk. It took me about an hour, but I got it open! Thanks for the video!
This video felt like 5 minutes long. Super complete to be an introduction and so well explained. I think I'll start a new hobby. Thanks for providing us with your quality content.
@olegtipov4815it was their way of agreeing with the original comment; saying they also felt like the video was 5 minutes long. For another example if you haven’t seen this exchange online before: “wow, that song was amazing, I can’t believe you’re not a professional musician!” “Wait, they’re not a professional musician?” It’s meant to continue the compliment.
I've managed to pick two locks since watching this video. Thank you for a brilliant tutorial. Hearing that click, knowing you've finally cracked it, is a great feeling. This is defintiely becoming a budding interest of mine. Thanks again!
This is by far the best visual explanation of how the inside of the lock works. The large mock-up cutaway lock and key did it. At last, the " pins" barrel mechanism now makes sense. Thank you for that.
Guess who bought herself a lockpick set for Christmas and just happened to find this video!!! I bought a much smaller pick sets, but I already picked open a couple basic master locks!! This is super helpful though!! This is basically my new fidget toy!!!
I bought a lockpicking set because I found an old lockbox in my closet and couldn't find the key. Turns out just an old notebook was in there. I had fun, though!!
Should also be noted that when single-pin picking, one pin will bind at a time because when these cores were manufactured, the holes that house the pin stacks aren’t in a perfectly-straight line. They’re slightly misaligned, making one pin to be the first to bind. Then the next pin will bind and so forth. More tension is helpful because it provides better feedback to a skilled picker. A very stiff tension tool is also helpful to provide the picker with maximum feedback. Think of a shock absorber on a car. The springiness dampens feedback. You want the opposite of feedback dampening when picking single pins. Slow down. Pay attention to what you feel and hear. Happy picking🤗
I was thinking there must be some play in the mechanism so that the first pin stays lined up after you have picked it and you move onto your next pin. Am I right in thinking that pins need to feel the pressure from the tension tool before they will stay in position after being lined up (picked).
@@SC-rb2jrKinda late but if I understood correctly, you’re right. This is what makes the order in which pins click when you pick them (so you won’t necessarily be able to make the first pin click first every time).
I just got my first lock pick set and a practice lock a few days ago. Yesterday I actually opened a couple of locks I had around the house. I can't get them open today but it encouraged me to practice and learn more. Thanks for this informative and encouraging video!
I've watched so many "lock picking 101" videos, but this is the one that made it click for me. Your love of the hobby is contagious, and it's revitalized my eagerness to learn. Thank you!
I was indeed gifted a set very close to this. At the 9:59 mark I was able to manipulate my clear lock with every single tool, even the broken key extractor. Within 30 minutes I was able to open a padlock, and my own front door. Showing the skill put to real world tests....and passing! Thank you so much for taking your time to produce this content. I feel this is an invaluable skill to have. Even if I mainly use it just to impress friends. Knowledge is something that cannot be taken away.
I've done that once. Fortunatelly I haven't break my tools inside. And it's amazing that I can pick my own door faster than I usually takes to find my keys.
thank you so much. You didn't just tell us what the tools do but you even showed us how to work with them and stuff. This was actually really helpful. Thanks.
My uncle is a lock smith so he just bought me a lock pick set and he made me a lock picking practice thing with three diffrent doorknobs and this tutorial helped me get the easiest one open first try! Thanks so much!! 😊
Early on I got that exact set shown at the start of the video. It's from Banggood, is currently listed at US$10.59. They are well made (for the price of course) and have held up well. One tip: The metal handles were hard on my fingers so I got some heatshrink tubing, slipped it over the handles and heated it to fit snugly.
@@LockNoob Hey Noob! I think I learned it from Bosnian Bill. Whenever I watch a picking video I automatically compare it to you, Bill and Harry the Lock Picking Lawyer. Between the three of you there's everything a picker could need. Not incidentally, you're all fun to watch which is a big plus.
I came looking for tutorials because i'm writing a book where the MC knows how to pick locks. And i figured best way to write about it would be to just learn...plus the looks on peoples faces when they realise i can pick a lock will be priceless. 😂😂😂
My parents bought a masterlock for a storage container… I had been wanting to get into picking but never had. Bought a $30 kit from amazon with a clear practice lock and within 30 minutes I unlocked their masterlock with the help of this video, thanks lol
Just wanted to say thank you! I got a beginner lock picking kit today and went from never seeing a pick in real life to getting the starter locker open after watching this video. Very fun!
I just wanted to say thank you. I just bought a starter set with the practice locks. I found the instructions a little draconian and was watching youtube videos. You inspired me to give it a go with the city (I believe you called it) rake and I had the padlock open in less then five minutes. It was such a cool feeling when it popped and your instructions were perfect. Can't wait to learn the other tools and try different types of lock.
I locked my keys inside an RV a few years ago. A locksmith came out and opened the door in less than 30 seconds! Then charged me $80. This is a great instruction video! Thank you!
This video was a game changer,I’m new to this sport and have the see through lock. I’ve opened it a few times only by luck and I’ve gone days with no luck.I noticed your hand position on the last lock and copied it now I’m opening every single time.thanks
Neat! You never know when you’ll need a skill and it’s a good idea to pick them up when you’re able to...I’ve had a beginner set sitting in a drawer for a while and just got to trying it. Love collecting information on useful things like this. Thanks for the well made post sir!
Just started lockpicking today. I figured I'd take up this hobby as a non invasive and non destructive form of rescuing those in need as a EMT/FF. By far, the greatest thing in here was teaching me not to over torque the tension. I was putting heavy pressure on it. This video helped me pick my starter lock at least five times while watching! Thank you!
"The first time I watched your channel, I regretted not knowing it sooner. The content is very unique and useful. It feels like I learned a lot of life experiences!"
My wife brought me a lock picking set for Xmas just like this beginner see through one. Your tutorial helped me open it not just once but 4 times!! So pleased.
I was on the fence but am definitely getting me a kit! I really like your videos. You do great job at breaking things down so people can understand. Thank you sir
This is a really excellent video. I just bought a kit on a whim and the instructions make so little sense as they're obviously translated 'You need practice for many times' and '...you need to eject the lock tool up slowly till a little voice is heard', but this video helped get the principals across really well. Also it's amazed me how easy it actually is to do this, I opened the practice padlock before I read any instructions, within about a minute, and assumed they'd just made it very easy. Immediately tried on a proper padlock and opened that within a minute too. Now I'm hooked.
To be fair I only bother locking my house locks now because they prevent the disoriented methheads up the street from getting in and to make sure for that extra ten years if someone does break in. I've seen the so-called best of the best locks picked in less than ten seconds. I have no faith in any lock anymore. It's the sight of a lock that keeps most people out and to that end I don't see the point in shelling out for anything other than the cheap locks. They all seem to provide the same protection.
I remember opening a master lock with a shim i made in less than ten minutes (opened hundreds of locks with the same one) with the metal end of a pencil, took less than 3 seconds to open.
I am applying for a locksmith job. I already know key cutting and rekeying locks. Your simple and straight to the point explanation of locks and how they work is very helpful. Thank you for this very valuable knowledge
Best explanation I’ve seen so far. I don’t have any cutaway or clear locks right now, so it definitely helped seeing this and your explanation was easy to follow. I picked my first lock, a master lock 141, then a brass master lock 140 and a sparrow sidewinder, right after watching this.
Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to teach us newbies I recently lost ALL my tool box keys and the boxes are locked in storage so I bought a kit to learn to pick these “ wafer” locks and you helped me understand how they work Wether or not I can pick these locks might be a different story but I have time and patience and determination
@@LockNoob FYI I spent about a total of 2 hrs including your tutoring and mastered the 3 practice locks that were included in the set. As you stated they’re considered easy. I then practiced on the same actual locks that I need to pick. I got that one open so now I just need some time to go to storage and pick all those tool box locks. Again thank you
@@10KGneck I honestly haven’t tried them on master locks. Probably take a little more practice but our resident pro makes EVERYTHING look easy. I’d say yes. If you already have an extra master lock then practice on that 1

Mastermuaz7 This is a very enjoyable hobby. I’m away from home this weekend with one of my lock pick sets but forgot to take any of my practice locks and this video helped me feel some of the satisfaction of picking a lock open! Lock Noob gives great advice. Don’t pick a lock you depend on - I picked my front door lock and opened it but it didn’t work afterward and I thought I had ruined.it. I called my local locksmith and he said before he comes to my house to put the key in it and turn it back and that fixed it. I was too new to know that a padlock core goes back without the key but not my front door lock! My son even used his skill to open a friend’s storage shed when they lost the key.
I was gonna try my bedroom door lock good thing i went and bought a cheap lock then watched this video. Dont have the see thru lock, and didn't get the lock open before the video ended. Good vid
locked myself out of my place. after about half an hour of contemplating kicking the door down i decided "guess ill get some bobby pins from the corner store and try to pick the lock." i had never attempted to do it before but have been playing video games for my whole life. after about 15 minutes of struggling i i actually managed to get in. it was a strange feeling of accomplishment that gave me an itch that has led me to this vid. thanks for the tips. i dont think ill stuggle as much next time thanks to you.
You’re my favorite lock picking channel by far. You know and present so much more information than the lock picking lawyer guy. All his videos are just like “look how easy it was to pick this lock” after he picked it six times already so he can do it really fast but you show us yourself picking on new locks so we can learn from you learning a new lock.
an introduction to lock picking very nicely and smoothly explained. can be an interesting new hobby with no particular high starting cost. thanks for the encouragement
The fact that you recommended the exact same door lock in use on my front door for an 'extra challenge' is a bit concerning, the only difference is my core is silver, not gold- buying a new lock immediately lmao!
I would always lose my keys for the simple locks on my diaries when I was twelve or something so I just made my own lock pick to open them. I'm quite interested in trying actual lock picking though, it's interesting!
Amazing video. One note: The tension tool should almost always be placed inside of the top of the keyway, not the bottom. It'll give you more room to work. Also the city rake tool works better when rocked up and down, instead of back and forth.
OH good tip, thank you. I watch a lot of LPL and always wondered why the "top of the keyway tension" was so prevalent as it seems to me like that'd get in the way more than the bottom.
I've had a history of being locked out of my own home and recently it happened again. This is how i stumbled on to this video. I didn't want my wife and I locked out of our home with our pets inside. It was crazy how much lock smith was charging to come out to help us get into our home. Figured i would look more into lockpicking and after this, maybe get good at it and make a side business out of it (and not charge people 400+dollars either). Thank you for this, maybe I'll get as good at lockpicking as the fictional master of unlock (Jill Valentine for Resident Evil fans out there). Seems kind of fun hobby to pick up. I got a question though; how do you know when a lockpick will break? Is there any kind of damage to the lock and is it possible to get it out? I ask this because one day i will need to unlock my house if i forget the keys again.
Lock Noob has an entire video on why you shouldn’t pick some locks, including the ones in use on your own home. Picks eventually fail due to metal fatigue, and it tends to be sudden. You can try getting the tip out with an extractor, but if it doesn’t cooperate, you may end up having to call a locksmith or drill out the core. See above.
I love to see the situation where you leave your house without your keys, but remeber to take your lockpicks with you "in case you get locked out". Just a thought, put a spare key in your lockpick set and save yourself hours of misery 😂😂😂
When I was in my 20s, I used to carry a pick set all the time. Used them for my car, any locks around the house or at work (for things I was suppose to have access to), and the house itself (I didn’t carry my house keys). However, they were made from hacksaw blades and my father eventually told me to cut out using them on the door locks as they were hard enough they were starting to wear the pins.
Hi. My girlfriend bought a lockpick set just like you showcased in this video. I've been sitting in her sofa for more than 45+ minutes and struggling to open it ONCE. I'm considering to blow up the lock since it seems to be the only thing to open it besides the key that was provided for it to open.
Came here after watching a hundred or so LPL videos, now can't help but hear "we'll use this wiper insert as a turning tool", "number XX is binding", and "and we have it open. Okay folks..." during appropriate times in this video. 😆
I love how he is super delicate with the tension then says to be gentle with the rake and acts like he is trying to kill the lock and take at the same time
Just got into this hobby as turning 40 brings on a slew of weird new hobbies and interests. I appreciate this video. Very informative and gave me a bit of confidence to start picking. Thank you!
Great introduction! I have an acquaintance who expressed an interest in picking, the last time I saw her; next time I see her I'll recommend your video as a starting point. Thanks for making & posting it! 😊
Amazing tutorial, thank you! Unfortunately, buying lockpick sets is a criminal offence in my country (even for a hobby), but I had a lot of fun watching you work these tools nonetheless. At least I have some theoretical knowledge now :)
@@thecosmicfinch8146 you can't kill someone with a lock pick set and neither is there a British epidemic of young people killing each other with lock pick sets..
@@JP-iz9cz i may have worded that awkwardly, you can own a knife but cannot posses it in public without reason, same with lock picks, you can own them but without proper reasoning you will be prosecuted for possession of a lock pick, yes you cant kill people with a lock pick but it prevents certain crimes, same as why you cannot carry a knife over 6 inch in public without reason
I always thought the warning of pick locks you own and not in use was for legal reasons, thanks for explaining that picks could break and ruin the lock.
Not to forget: if a lock is bad enough, master locks for example: everything is a raking tool! Because there is no point in doing anything also rake 2-15 seconds and it's open. Amazon reviews for those are a joke. People with no clue praise the companies marketing. Pickers do everything from rating 1 star for security to rating 5 stars sarcastically.
I've been trying to get my simple plastic clear training padlock open for a year, with no success. Tried rakes, tools, hundreds of tutorials, nothing. No success.
I just bought one of these practice kits on a whim. Bored out of my mind being unemployed and on lockdown. Figured I had some time to kill. Your video explained quite a bit and I appreciate the fact that you didn't assume any prior knowledge from your viewers. Thank you! Subbed to show my appreciation.
I've had that same set for probably 8 years now and with the help of this video I actually just picked a 5 pin lock. It was a little frustrating at first but then it worked!
This is a really high quality video! Your a very good explainer so keep making videos and you’ll be like the lock picking lawyer in no time with a million subscribers!
Very informative! I actually have that lock pick kit off of Amazon and had no clue what most of it was so I got very good at picking one cylinder at a time. I didn’t know it could be that easy with the others. Lol
Just bought a cheap kit (20 quid) Yours was the 1st video I came across. Well made succinct and informative thanks I will be watching more and subscribing.
Bought myself a very similar kit this week, couldn’t make sense of the little instruction book. Few minutes of watching this video and I was opening it with ease. Brilliant video !
Just bought this exact set after watching reviews of it by LPL and Bosnian Bill, gonna be my first pick set! This video is incredibly helpful! Thank you!
Great video, unlocked a bike lock that we had padlocked for over a year in garage since loosing the key. bolt cutters did not work. So this was great. Took 15 mins to get it off and this video + practice lock helped a lot! :D
So at work we had these two lockers of old employees who had left ages ago (more than 8 years ago) but we decided it was high time to get the locks off and clean out the lockers. My boss told me to just borrow their bolt cutter and cut the locks off but I remembered that lock picking has been becoming increasingly popular. So I looked up a short video to see if I could pick the locks cartoon style with two paper clips and by god it worked! I popped both the locks off with relative ease and I knew I was hooked! I ordered a basic lock picking set (a Southerd PXS-14) from LockpickWorld to get started. This video was such an awesome and clear explanation of the basics and I’m really excited to get into this hobby!

Ah, a fellow paper clip lock picker (I understand the locks but I am more of an amateur than anything). I am also hoping to try lock picking with actual tools soon!
Been out of the game for a few years now, but nice starter video. Pick set looks like a Majestic or clone as usual with starter sets. These tend to break real easy as a newcomer will always over tension and then try to really push the pins, normally with no pick support at the lock face. Goso's are a good beginner pick as they can take some punishment and were cheap. I would only say move onto the more expensive picks when you know what you are doing, otherwise you will snap them. Southords are my favourite, the C2010 set and my go to pick out of that is the MSL 09. Curves like the Storms or Falles take a bit of getting used to, but can come in handy for precision picking on high security locks. It really is a great hobby, I really loved it and am considering starting again. Oh and tell Pickwizard I said hello :)
For some reason, I had the sudden urge to watch a video on lock picking while in bed. I don't have tools, I've never been interested, but I watched the whole thing. I think I'm interested now, thank you. I'll definitely need to watch it again when I get a set...
a HUGE THANK YOU !!! i suceeded in opening the look on the window with the second technique at about 8:00 of the video ! i am so proud ! i made a little joy dance
Thank you, Lock Noob, this video was helpful to understand the different kind of lockpicking tools in the set I've ordered. The same set as shown in this video. What I've noticed, though, is that my plastic transparent padlock has 7 horizontal coils that all move to and fro. When I use the key, open the padlock. The padlock does allow access for the lockpickers, but doesn't allow access to the 7th horizontal coil. All the lockpickers reach into the plastic padlock and move the 6 horizontal coils, but never the 7th. I've followed your instructions, using a variety of lockpickers from this set that are shown and used in your video. Do I have the wrong padlock? By the way, I've ordered this lockpicking set in order to try to open the lock of my e-bike battery, since the keys are lost during a 36 hour transport. Have you ever opened the lock of an e-bike batter? My e-bike battery is installed under the rack behind the saddle, attached to a part that is fixed on the bike. I now drive the e-bike into my home, and charge the battery while it's installed in the e-bike. Eventually, when I start travelling with my e-bike I shall need the battery-key, to be able to bring the battery with me in the accommodation where I spend the night. I'm told, here in Holland, that batteries are valuable items for thieves, and that they use a tool to break the battery free from its base. Hence my precaution "plan de campagne"
Had a throwaway TSA007 lock (if you're new, & struggling grab one) & always been interested in the hobby, but never had a kit & would give up. This video was so well done though, that for all my issues, I was able to follow along as best as someone with my abilities can, if not better. I was thinking there must be some play in the mechanism so that the first pin stays lined up after you have picked it and you move onto your next pin. Am I right in thinking that pins need to feel the pressure from the tension tool before they will stay in position after being lined up (picked).
Thank you
@@SC-rb2jrKinda late but if I understood correctly, you’re right.
Your front DOOR?
Have you change your lock yet? I'm guessing you had.
Fuck me, I can't even get the first rake to work. I'm only 5 minutes in but still...
i was about to pick my own door, thanks for advising me against it XDDD
Never pick a lock you rely on
I've done that once. Fortunatelly I haven't break my tools inside.
And it's amazing that I can pick my own door faster than I usually takes to find my keys.
There are 2 golden rules of lockpicking:
_Do not pick locks which you do not own._
_Do not pick locks which you rely on._

I got that clear lock picking set 1 year ago, and could never pick it. Now I watch your video and can pick it in 3 tries. Thank you so much bro!!!
Thanks 🙏
Early on I got that exact set shown at the start of the video. It's from Banggood, is currently listed at US$10.59. They are well made (for the price of course) and have held up well. One tip: The metal handles were hard on my fingers so I got some heatshrink tubing, slipped it over the handles and heated it to fit snugly.
Heat shrink tubing is a great hack!
@@LockNoob Hey Noob! I think I learned it from Bosnian Bill.

It was such a cool feeling when it popped and your instructions were perfect. Can't wait to learn the other tools and try different types of lock.

Thanks, I was using some of my tools completely wrong, now I'm far more effective with hooks and city rack, so thanks 😄.

Thank you very much 🙏
This is a really excellent video.
Thanks 😊
That's why I usually don't trust padlocks that one can access from outside anymore.
Just picked my first lock thanks to this video - I might be hooked already
thanks
Awesome!
Master locks. So bad they're good for starter lock picks... I think they should start rebranding themselves as lockpicking beginner locks.
Absolutely!
Nice roast
To be fair I only bother locking my house locks now because they prevent the disoriented methheads up the street from getting in and to make sure for that extra ten years if someone does break in. I've seen the so-called best of the best locks picked in less than ten seconds. I have no faith in any lock anymore. It's the sight of a lock that keeps most people out and to that end I don't see the point in shelling out for anything other than the cheap locks. They all seem to provide the same protection.
Also bolt cutters also work quite well to get through them
I remember opening a master lock with a shim i made in less than ten minutes (opened hundreds of locks with the same one) with the metal end of a pencil, took less than 3 seconds to open.
I've been wanting to try lockpicking ever since I saw some random video on youtube. Seems like a useful skill.
Well, it’s certainly a fun one!

Thanks 🙏
yeah i taught myself how to lockpick with bobbypins for that exact reason
Amazing video. One note: The tension tool should almost always be placed inside of the top of the keyway, not the bottom. It'll give you more room to work. Also the city rake tool works better when rocked up and down, instead of back and forth.
OH good tip, thank you. I watch a lot of LPL and always wondered why the "top of the keyway tension" was so prevalent as it seems to me like that'd get in the way more than the bottom.
This is the tip I’ve been missing! I finally got my cut away lock open, thank you!
I instantly was able to pick my lock with this tip with no sucess without it. Thank you so so much
I've had a history of being locked out of my own home and recently it happened again.
I'd like to know if you ever followed up lol & have you recouped your losses if so?
Thank you, I happened to order myself this set last week.
It's on that slow boat from China now. Useful stuff 👍
That would be ironic lol
"Yea, I really do think..."
Came here after watching a hundred or so LPL videos, now can't help but hear "we'll use this wiper insert as a turning tool", "number XX is binding", and "and we have it open. Okay folks..." during appropriate times in this video. 😆
Yes, LPL has an iconic voice!
As a lock noob, I found this video super helpful!

@@thecosmicfinch8146 you can't kill someone with a lock pick set and neither is there a British epidemic of young people killing each other with lock pick sets..

That c2010 kit is very very good value

The 7th spring and pin retains the core in the padlock
