There will never ever be such wonder and magnificence from a show. The Ultimate on all levels. Every single time I watch the videos, it is my first time.
All three stories were actually from Kelly Bishop's life. She played Shelia originally and won a Tony Award for performance in the Featured Actress category.
Just Sheila and Bebe's monologues were part of Kelly's interviews with Michael Bennett. Maggie's monologue about having an absent father were actually based on Donna Mckechnie's interviews with Michael. Donna was originally supposed to play the role of Maggie, until Michael Bennett decided to write her her own character which became Cassie. 😊
Over 9 thousand people viewed this superb musical number and nobody made a comment. Shame on you all. One of the very special pieces from the movie. Thanks you putting it up for there.
I think all signer/dancers did a great job, but the big difference between a stage and a movie production is, that in a movie production through post-sound design and editing as well as cuts in the video material, the magic of witnessing a life show with all its tiny imperfections and variations that make every single visit special and unique is lost. In a stage show there are no second takes, and that's what makes it special every single time. A big part here is also that there isn't and there can't be any interaction with the audience, while most musicals dedicate sections of the show to engaging the audience, say by certain characters breaking the fourth wall in between and addressing members of the audience directly. I've found no movie version of any musical as of yet that could take it up with the original stage show, but it's not the performer's fault but just in the nature of the medium. It's just an all over different experience.
I noticed the views/likes. You had to live it, and love dance to really understand what they were saying. So many talented/want to be's in the world. However, very few make it. Memories. My favorite musical.
The director really messed the movie up by making the perspective about kids wanting their big break instead of it being about established dancers going in for an audition

In the play, none of the 3 girls singing this song got into the chorus line at the end of the show. In the movie version, one of them did. The one that did was (*&(&))(&()&*0 (sorry I misspelled it).
Such a beautiful but also sad song from a great adaptation of a unusual stage play. This is the only play i know of that shows the audition process in detail. I wish however that the writers of the play would have given sheilas part to a different character. Shes so forward she is obnoxious.
Wheres the rhythm? Why is the metronome section so slow and sounds nothing like a metronome? Why do we only see their weakness and not the strength they use to cover it up? Gah, I hate this. It butchers the message of the song and the musical integrity of the brilliant score.
Completely agree. Too often people cover up a strong moment in a song with a "weak" cut off thinking they're giving a creative twist. All they're doing is robbing themselves of a chance to really wow the audience.
Just got cast as Maggie yesterday! So excited to play her 💕
Break a leg! Enjoy!
Marianna Therese G. Garcia she’s my dream role!
Break a leg!
Gooood for u super
Why didn't it start from the beginning? "Daddy always said that he married beneath him. That's what he said. That's what he said..."

Nobody made a comment because the movie is horrible compared with the musical, they killed and disrespected Michael Bennett's work
Love the musical, love the movie. They are both beautiful in their own way! Thanks for putting this up here.... :)
not to be that person but it’s crazy how much this movie feels nothing like the source material
That's why it was the best horror film of 1985. :o)
It's fairly disappointing. The voices on the soundtrack were more "real."
this version is absolutely inferior to the broadway version but the woman who plays maggie is killin it
Pam Klinger, the woman who plays Maggie, was in the Broadway cast.
Pam dawber from mork and Mindy is brilliant as Maggie in this movie, and she could sing
@@maxipaz5597 That looks nothing like Pam Dawber. Costumes people should be reprimanded for putting her in that ugly diaper.

Jj then watch the braodway version. The movie is musical hell.
The director really messed the movie up by making the perspective about kids wanting their big break instead of it being about established dancers going in for an audition
I need to go sing this song with my musical a chorus a line🥰
But everything was beautiful at the ballet

So beautiful I'd never lived to see
But it was clear
If not to her
Well then to me

That everyone is beautiful at the ballet
Every prince has got to have his swan
Yes, everyone is beautiful at the ballet

The beginning is missing

There's pam!!!!!
No wonder why Dad liked all the pretty girls LOL

Why do I feel like the live versions of this song are sung better than this one
Probably because most of them simply are.
The cutaway into the air after Maggie sings her solo is a pathetic attempt to bring some gravitas to this number. BIG FAIL.
She looks like Dianne Ladd

@@damore8913 this is the movie not the original which was the Broadway show.
@@damore8913 thank you!
The movie is good in its own way, but this wonderful song was butchered. Maggie is fucking great tho.
Who are the actresses?
It was clear….
the only good one in this was maggie
FACTS
But they put her in an ugly diaper. Horrible.
Um this is terrible
omg this is so bad ....
the singing is way off key and like.. weak ! Wtf is this ??
Damn they all kinda sound horrible
This is just awful.
