This is Maggie's solo if you want more context:
Maggie:
I don't know what they were for or against, really, except each other. I mean, I was born to save their marriage but when my father came to pick my mother up at the hospital he said: "Well, I thought this was going to help. But I guess it's not." Anyway, I did have a fantastic fantasy life. I used to dance around the living room with my arms up like this. My fantasy was that it was an Indian Chief... And he'd say to me, "Maggie, do you wanna dance?" And I'd say, "Daddy, I would love to dance."
Bebe: But it was clear
Sheila: When he proposed
Maggie: That I was born to help their marriage and when
..
Sheila: That's what he said
.
Bebe: That's what she said
.
Maggie: I used to dance around the living room
..
Sheila: He wasn't warm
.
Bebe: Not to her
.
Maggie:
It was an Indian chief and he'd say
;
"Maggie, do you wanna dance?"
And I said, "Daddy, I would love to"
Everything was beautiful at the ballet
Raise your arms and someone's always there
*Yes everything was beautiful at the ballet*
*At the ballet*
*At the ballet*
Mister Golightly so I really need a link to the Kelly O’Hara version, I saw it once and have been searching for years to find it again because it’s amazing.
Please do a: Who Did The "Ich Gehör Nur Mir" Ending Notes Best!
It's a hard song to sing and I've been obsessed with that song since you uploaded your video about Willemijn's vocal range

Thank you lol I got so mad looking at the comments and not hiding something about her 🤣
Bruh! I was sooooo confused!
I WAS LAUGHING I WAS LIKE "i wasnt aware that there was the letter m in "ballet"?"
Hahahahahahahahaha I thought I was hearing things
miskey If there's a T, I don't see why there couldn't be an M as well
That’s such a weird note! In such a breaking point in many women’s voices. Congrats to those who didn’t crack.
So true though!
!!!!
Many cracked more on the second "ballet"....
What note is this by any chance ?
Mikayla Williams E5.
Edit: totally agree! It’s really impressive to hear women singing such a strong clear note right on their passagio.
I just want someone to look at me like the guy in blue looked at Sarah
So cute, right?! I noticed it while I was editing it
I want HIM to look at me like he does Sarah.
Mister Golightly - I want someone to look at me the way Stephen Sondheim looks at the girl he’s teaching who’s singing Not Getting Married Today. The video is on UA-cam. It’s also in your video compilation for that one. The college kids in the classroom. She’s not nearly the best but he’s got pure love in his eyes. (When he’s not noticing a mistake, lol.)
What's the time stamp?
Paul Flanagan!

Absolutely noone:
Sarah Rose Davis:

Literally every other comment is about that.
Can we just appreciate how addicting this channel is
Edit: Lmao thanks for the likes
Appreciated. Now, NEXT VIDEO
Real
While it's a very hard note to hit without sounding pitchy or screamy, it's really meant to be sang in a "louder", more musical theatre voice, rather than an operatic voice which makes it kind of lose its power
Glitter Grasshopper I wouldn’t say lose power it’s just more unique
I agree, that was what was wrong with Kouri's version, which otherwise was very good, but that last note was operatic.
It’s supposed to be in a hard mix.
@@paigejohannesen9681 or as they say, chesty
Exactly! It’s a full voice note, difficult to do with out falling into operatic/falsetto.
Mara obviously.....and that clip is her revisiting the role after starring in broadway 8 years prior, which shows the prowess of her voice!
I know, right? amazing.
Only two sing it best. Kay Cole, the original and Mara Davi, who is the Maggie for this generation!!!!!!!!!!!
Michael Hearn I couldn’t agree with you more! I was looking for this comment from someone. They were all wonderful, but Kay and Mara stand out. Watch the clip of Kay on Phil Donohue, as consistent a voice and emotional a performance as it gets!
Exactly and she uses a mix, and it’s perfect
Agreed
is sarah rose davis singing "at theM ballet" or am i just hearing wrong?
She's basically cheating to have enough voice and energy
its a technique to make the onset onto the next note easier
alberquirky it’s a common technique among vocalists actually. In fact, you can hear quite a few other singers in this video do it but it’s a lot more subtle. But basically what she’s doing is creating tension in her lips to avoid closing her soft-palate.
@@caseygreyson4178 Oh! I can just about hear Mary Mondlock do it as she hears up for that final note.
well, i can tell what show you’re obsessed with right now
He-he
In no particular order:
Mara - all around gorgeous 7:05
Christina - her TONE! 4:23
Grace - lovely finish 1:33
Ana (Oh, how I wish the audio was better!) - you can tell the acting is spot on 5:28
Melissa - a little wobble but damn, sustain! 6:35
How can you tell Ana's acting? its too far away
Jerome Alday you can hear it in her voice
Christina is amazing! I saw that production live and it was incredible!
Wasn’t Ana a Glinda in Wicked as well?
I love Christina too
OMG EARLIER TODAY I WAS LIKE “HMM I SHOULD SEE IF MISTER GOLDLIGHTLY HAS AN AT THE BALLET CLIMAX COMPARISON” AND WAS BLESSED WHEN I CHECKED
Christina Oescheger had such a wonderful clear tone, everyone did so well though
Michael Yates exactly what I was thinking
Grace McDavid was fantastic
She was 17 at the time...
@@davidroth2706 damn
I don't know which I'm more mad at, the fact that I can't hit this note and all these other girls can, or the fact that in some of these THE AUDIENCE DIDN'T APPLAUD AFTER THEY HIT IT. LIKE COME ON PEOPLE!!
Most of these girls sounded absolutely horrific trying to sing that note, they deserve no applause for it
No, No, No! I want to hear the singer all the way through, not some idiot whooping and cheering, drowning out half the note, like they do with Mara. I really wish I could hear that amazing note right the way through but it's spoiled by the audience interrupting right in the middle of it. All that work nurturing and developing an amazing voice over years and some moron shouts "Whoooo!" right in the middle of the climax so nobody can appreciate the power, tone and length of it. Would you start applauding half way through Hamlet's soliloquy because you liked the way he said "To be or not to be"?
melissa lone is sustaining for her life and i am HERE for it (also mara davi’s voice is so angelic it should be illegal)
Melissa Lone blew me away - that's a powerhouse vocal.
LaurenK I think this was Melissa’s final performance so she was making the most of it🙂
The healthiest sounding too!
Had to edit out the Glee version due to copyright. Sorry!
😟
I was wondering where it was, thanks for the good video regardless though!
It's fine . Keep up the good work 😘
Mister Golightly DANG! That was the one I was waiting for too!
I mean Glee's vocals are always heavily post-processed anyway so they shouldn't be a contender in these videos.
Jeez that Alicia Candelas lady .... her last note soared like an eagle !!! Bravissimo!
This is old but here's a fun fact: that was a school production, too. She's amazing.
As a hardcore A Chorus Line fan, I audible shouted “Yes!” when I saw this.
my roommate hates how much I watch this channel, buy me headphones evan.
popular song ideas: seasons of love climax, waving through a window climax, suddenly seymour climax, divas lament climax, words fail climax (cause deh gets views)
Yeah Evan, wtf, buy the guy some headphones. I'm going to do DEH now because of him 😂
Yes Divas Lament!!!’
I would die for a seasons of Love climax video!!!!!
4:23 Christina is amazing. I was absolutely blown away and can’t stop watching
Yes !!!! Watched her entire performance of this song !! And her voice is literally PERFECT for Maggie !!! She nailed every note and the acting ! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Not that I could do better but she's my favourite after Mara because while her tone and pitch are perfect she lacks in the level of vibrato that Mara is able to sustain.
They all sounded great, but I think it sounds best when it's in a beautiful mix that's hard to distinguish if it's a belt or not.
For me the people that achieved that were Kay Cole, Grace McDavid, Mary Mondlock, Melissa Lone, and Mara Davi.
Ok but that girl Alicia who sang it in a different language sounded very high quality imo
that was the first time i have ever heard kelli o’hara sound bad
Right? She even looked like she didn't want to sing it because she couldn't hit it home like Kay Cole.
It sounds like she’s not a belter and doesn’t have a strong enough voice for the song. Which is interesting because a Broadway voice is a belting voice.
JasonStackhouse well, not everything has to be a belt
o hey I like your videos
it was a mix, but at the high E she lost resonance and went most into head voice.
this is the best UA-cam “series” on the internet, I love it.
Shane Dawson quaking
Mara’s is cry-worthy. And she and Melissa (two Maggies in the Broadway revival) look so proud.
4:07 Sounds like the healthiest belt
Mara has such beautiful clarity and tone and Christina was second best in my personal opinion
Bronwyn Tarbots voice is so clear and vibrant, I love it
These ladies stood out to me❤️
1:33 Grace McDavid
3:41 Mary Mondlock
7:06 Mara Davi
Can I admit although I listen to the revival of a chorus line on a daily I love the original at the ballet the best. The style that the three girls used always is amazing!
I looove Kelly Bishop as Sheila!
Cristina O. Did amazing! I love watching the Texas University productions on YT!
Laura Manzor Same! So so fun!
wow, mara’s still gets me everytime.
No one gonna give Alicia any love?? She HIT that.
Welp looks like Mister Golightly and I are synced up in terms of what shows to obsess over... I WONDERED WHY THESE VIDS ALWAYS COME AT THE PERFECT TIME
It's like I have ESPN, or something
I love this
Melissa Lone and Mara Davi were my favorites: so clear and vibrato was on point
Mara. Mara Mara Mara Mara. No competition
Mara- Thats true.
I really don’t like how Sarah Rose pronounced certain letter sounds. Was it weird to anyone else or just me?
definitely not just you
Lolol sounds like "at them ballet!!!! At them ballet!!!!"
I didn't know it was English for a hot sec
Yeah I was definitely hearing an m before each ballet XD
“at the MMMMMBALLET”
Kay Cole’s is really great, it’s such a nice mixed placement and so open
Yes everything was buetifull at the balett at the balett at the baleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet
What is wrong with you stupid? Learn how to spell and pronounce words!
@@bingovegas4867 Is name calling necessary?
@@bingovegas4867 Excuse me? How do you they're not learning English, or struggling with it? You dont the circumstances.
Where’s Susan Santoro? She was the final Maggie in the original run at the Shubert. I did the show for almost 2 years on Broadway and no one sang it like her.
her take on the role was different than anyone else… It was a little bit more contemporary and it was absolutely stunning. I think I may have some cassette tapes from then I should take a look. LOL
no one asked, but my opinion of everyone:
kaye cole - what can be said about her? she's the original, she invented it, and she should be praised for that alone
sarah rose davis - some odd placement, and the E is a little shouty, but its fine
jessica bezek - very powerful, and she mixed the E very well
grace mcdavid - wow.... love her. voice fits part well, and mixed perfectly. great technique.
alicia candelas - shouty. the last note eventually entered a good pocket, except for whatever happened at the end there
merete muenter - i love her voice, but the E could've been better.
christiane noll - sounded much better than expected considering i dont see this as her style. flawless technique as usual
pam klinger - im sure she would've been great without the producers fading her out. do not watch this movie.
blake bowden - very impressive, though missing a few of the lower notes. he hit a high B. i prefer the song in a female key.
mary mondlock - pretty good. last note started flat and very chesty and she fixed it well.
bronwyn tarboton - first of all, interesting choreography. nothing stood out to me as bad but nothing stuck out as great either.
cristina oeschyer - her second "let" was a little off, but her placement on the high E was fabulous.
kelli o'hara - kelli is fabulous, that being said, this song is not meant to be classical styled. this is a belt.
amanda kouri - again, not a note to float. she was fine up until then.
ana cecilia anzaldua - she's fine, she went a little sharp when she sustained the note for too long.
chelsey ristaino - another belt that started flat and then was fixed later.
vicki lee taylor - open your mouth! and dont go sharp. at the balleeeee
melissa lone - oh my god the sustain is fabulous. besides the slightly sharpness, very VERY good and definitely impressive.
mara davi - mara davi is my maggie. i love her so much. she's perfect. her placement is flawless, and she makes it seem so easy, despite it being one of the hardest moments in contemporary musical theatre to sing.
who sang it best? mara, kaye, melissa, with an honorable mention to cristina
I would not call Kelli’s “operatic” at all. Sounded like a mixed belt that just wasn’t as strong as it should have been.
Can you please do some “Who sang it best” videos for Miss Saigon? Like I’d Give My Life For You, Why God Why, and especially Now That I’ve Seen Her!
Christina Oeschger
*Wow, you really saved the best for balleeeeeeeeeet!*
The last two completely nailed it: Melissa and Mara! ✨
It's quite a hard note to hit; yes there are much higher notes & songs that require more sustenance however it's arranged in a way that makes it hard. It seems like it's placed right at the their passagio hence many are prone to crack/be unstable. Plus the arrangement leaves the singer right at an incremental spot that their voices have to carry it over.
*P.S.* after seeing the last video with the "singers" enthusiastically screaming "balleeeeeeeeet", I applaud all of these ladies 👏
The last 2 and the 2 Spanish version ones were my faves.
Mara - all around gorgeous 7:05
Christina - her TONE! 4:23
Grace - lovely finish 1:33
Ana (Oh, how I wish the audio was better!) - you can tell the acting is spot on 5:28
Melissa - a little wobble but damn, sustain! 6:35
I was lucky enough to play Maggie in a local theatre company's production production of A Chorus Line, and I alwyas had trouble with the placement of the second note, as it usually right on the break. Props to al these amazing women!
My opinion is Mara. I've heard her sing it in many venues and she is consistent every time. They all did well though. Not an easy note.
I was Mark in a production in April, and our Maggie had the voice of a literal angel, so the climax was so smooth and satisfying and totally absent of screaming of any kind 😊 P.S. Definetly do a "Dance:Ten Looks: Three" video and maybe a "Gimme the Ball" comparison? My production had Richie as a girl named Rickie, so I'd be interested in how other girls took the role if there were any others 😄
MacAttack17 Our Richie was a girl too! We changed it to Vicki. I actually played Al, we changed the role to Alice.
Our’s too (I played Larry): I was like 11 and she was 10. But she would’ve EATEN these people up tbh
Melissa Lone's interpretation of the whole phrase was simply incredible - her high E was resonant and beautiful, plus she managed to come off the note without cracking or sliding off, but with vibrato. Hers was definitely my favorite.
00:57 I think this guy just found his soulmate
At the m ballet!
m b a l l e t
I like Alicia too, spanish is a beautiful language.
Cristina is one of my favorite Maggies. She is so beautiful and pulls it off so perfectly, and the way she hits the notes so clearly without it being to screamy. Mara is also one of my favorites, she does it so smoothly and she is exactly who I think about when I think about the character of Maggie.
It's so weird how I started getting obsessed with the chorus line (again) 4 days ago and then you upload this amazing video. This just means I need to watch more Chorus line.
I think Mara Davi is the new standard.
Christina Oeschger also had incredible tone and control.
Melissa Lone was Peggy Sawyer for a production of 42nd Street I did backstage crew work for, and I never knew she had this SUSTAIN. Incredible!
Mara Davi! I love the video of them finding her in auditions.
Damnit this is my 1000x watching Mara Davi. I had the privilege of being in A Chorus Line this summer and this is by far my favorite song from the show. I have stayed awake multiple nights just listening to Mara Davi sing the climax and I am always left in shock. Her technique... I just can’t. It’s so healthy, and so tension free, and by far some of the best singing I have ever heard in my entire life. She’s absolutely incredible.
Love that you’re posting this now, just got casted as Bobby in my school’s production of A Chorus Line and I’ve been binge watching so many performances lmao. I’m super excited for our Maggie
What about the Barbra Streisand, Daisy Ridley, Anne Hathaway trio? I know they haven’t performed it live, but it’s still amazing
Purposefully excluded them due to copyright. Daisy did hit the high E though, but Barbra sang on top
Omg yesss love that one!!
DAISY IS SO TALENTED
I just listened to it, and I hated it. I know it was barbara’s thing, but one of the best things about at the ballet is how perfectly balanced it is. It’s supposed to pull at the heart with each girls story, and barbara stepped on everyone. I was in this show, and getting to watch the trio on the stage was truly a one of a kind experience
Sad to say that Barbra was the weakest voice of the trio. Plus she took parts that were Anne to sing and she was fabulous and should have sung them.
My favourite Broadway song, of all time. Thank you for this!
Also....Mara Davis 100%
Carrie Wood
Me before hearing her: “she can’t be that good”
Me after hearing her: “oh my god”
@@breadcrumbhoarder SAAAAAAAAAAME
I don't think anyone really sang it without being a bit flawed or messing up a little bit, but they mostly all did an incredibly wonderful job!
Nevermind just heard Melissa Lone
I can always count on to have a video for my random "who did it best" days. Thank you.
When not even Kelli Ohara can sing it well you know its hard lol
Don't know who she is, but Grace McDavid was phenomenal!
Love the way she handles her vibrato, and holds steady on the final note.
The first time I heard Christina’s rendition I literally got chills
4:03 Why is no one talking about Bronwyn's Performance? She sounded amazing!!!
i think this channel might just get me into musical theater gawdamn
cristina’s voice is just so lovely i want to cry
my heart soared when this popped up on my recommended. literally one of my all time sings from my all time favorite show
I was waiting for Mara the whole time! Thank you for saving her for last. Kay will always be queen, I love Pam too. I will use this to explain embouchure and vowel shapes in the future.
I was a kid when the movie came out, and I watched it obsessively, so there will always be a place in my heart for Pam Klinger’s crazy screlting.
So funny I was just thinking this is the one video I need from this channel
they all where great. it's such a high note to hit. they all did great.
Y'all this brightens my day. I've been restlessly roaming the internet in search if stuff to theater trade. Never knew how tiring that was. Also dang this song is really hard.
It doesn't seem hard but it truly is. And you need to belt/mix it, if you go into head voice it loses the effect (Julie Andrews who I love, but her rendition..)
@@MisterGolightly yeah I agree. This needs a lot of discipline in mixing
@@MisterGolightly "you don't have to yell"
Awe man! I have a clip of local production of this, and the girl who sang this part was incredible.
Coulda used it! hahah
love the videos
People have their own opinions. Overall, I think Kay, Jessica, Alicia, Mary, and Melissa nailed it best. Melissa was most powerful. Hands down IMHO. No one did it poorly; not even Blake. It’s a great song but a tough one. Brava to them all.
Mara Davi was amazing but I saw Kay Cole on stage near the start of the show. Goose Bumps covered you’re entire body. Kay is a force to be reckoned with. Carol Burnett thought so. She saw Kay in A Chorus Line on broadway and immediately brought Kay onto her show. I was so privileged to see the original cast on broadway!
One of my favorites! Congrats all you belters!
mara davi was great but can we talk about how grace mcdavid also killed it cause DAMN
sneepdeep what i thought!
Grace was 17 in our high school production.
Kay Cole, the original
Roberto Ignacio
I agree. Kay Cole’s the one. Strong vocally and emotionally as well. Plus she looked and acted the part as well as it can be done. Brava!
that note is directly where my voice breaks. I give these people so much credit.
Maggie definitely has the best solos in this show. In both at the ballet and the montage she has great solos
I'm so obsessed with this show at the moment, I swear this song is heavenly
I saw Chelsey Ristaino's production live and she was the best voice of the evening.
I was about to say none cause to my opinion..most of the singers or wasn't managing the highest note correctly so it was leading to a scream or the second phrase was pushed to much .
BUT here comes MARA DAVI at the end to kill them all
Christina Oeschger’s will always give me goosebumps. Damn flawless.
They're all wonderfull!
Tearing all the way.
A Chorus Line has a deep part in my heart. I was a dancer
😓😂😭✌😁👌💋
just here to say im in love with christina oeschgers voice. i found the texas state recordings of chorus line a bit ago and was just like oh wow she is amazing and i stick by that
Bronwyn was great, that second note had such great vibrato and tone omg
Been waiting for my favorite show to finally make an appearance
I thought Mary Mondlock was just superb and wonderful :) Her tone on the last note and strength was unparalleled
Talvez não foi a melhor canção pra voz dela, também achei o tom perfeito
I've been waiting for this for such a long time!! Mara Davis was my first ever bway idol 💗
cristina is my favourite even with that dodgy note
I WAS WAITING FOR SO LONG
I'm just so grateful you thought to make this video. I didnt know just how i needed it I LOVE THIS SHOWWW😍
Wow I’m obsessed with this channel
I’ll give Amanda some credit - she knew she couldn’t belt or mix so she went into her head voice. Wise choice.
CHRISTINA IS SOOO GOOD UGHGHGHGJG
