Repairing/replacing heating element in whirlpool dryer.
    Part used: www.amazon.com...
    Whirlpool Dryer Duet
    Model Number: WED9200SQ0
    Serial Number: MW0203382
10/7/2018 HEADS UP: The coil I used to fix this dryer no longer works. I ordered a replacement from another manufacturer, but want to leave the original link up so those can access the part number. 9 months seems like a short lifespan for a part so crucial to the machine.

well I got that front face part off with the two screws you showed top and bottom, but the heating coil thing itself inside the tube still won't budge. My dryer is from 2003 but it looks the same inside (much dirtier). Would be nice if you show how to pull that thing out.

OK the heating element housing doesn't just "drop" right down. There is a spring loaded clip in the back of the housing that holds it into the heater venting at the back of the dryer. You can actually see it in your video on the OUTSIDE of the venting. This means you didn't get the housing properly secured back into the heat venting. The only way I can see of getting the heater element housing out properly and back in is by removing the drum, and then separating the upper and lower halves of the element housing.

I had to take the housing apart in the unit to get it out. I end up removing that stupid metal clip upper housing clip and mounted everything back in. The bracket and bolts should hold everything in place. It’s not going anywhere. Now it’s an easy fix if I ever need to replace the element again. Just manufacturing overkill in my opinion.

Came here to say it is possible to do it without pulling the drum. Grab a small ratchet, sometimes you have to use just the socket and your fingers. Using a 1/4 socket driver bit from a drill with extension and use a crescent wrench for leverage also helps in some spots. It takes time and creativity, but I got it done in less than 2 hours.

Hello Robert. Great Video. I just replaced the thermostat and cut off on my whirlpool duet dryer. I have the exact same model as yours. Unfortunately that wasn’t the issue. After checking the heating coil I found out that was the culprit. Here’s my issue. I thought I took a picture of the wiring for all three parts but it doesn’t seem to be on my phone anymore. Is there anyway you could show me a picture or let me know how to connect the wiring? Everything looks exactly the same as what you’re showing in your video but I can’t make out the connections get enough detail how to hook things back up. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same dryer as you and I'm trying to change the belts and rollers. The videos I find do not have the same front panel as mine and so I have no instruction for how to get into the dryer past taking the top off and unhooking the connectors for the panel. Can you tell me how to do that or give a link for someone that's shown how on our particular dryer? Thanks so much, and I appreciated your video here on the heating element replacement!

That clip at the back of the element housing has to go INSIDE the rear housing. It's a booger to maneuver the tube into the rear due to lack of clearance with the drum in place.

We cannot get the screw on top of the heating element cover out. It is turning, but just never comes out. We’ve tried pushing and pulling to help it along, but it doesn’t want to come out. As far as I know, we’ve never done anything with the heating element so I don’t believe that screws ever been removed before.
    Any ideas?

    Good video.
When you are touching the heating element, if you are planning on using it again, (or new) use clean rubber gloves or a clean tool, screw driver, needle nose, forceps, to not get hand oils on element, like a halogen bulb. (I typically never touch the coils, avoid touching the heating element coils)
Also the comment regarding jumpering the broken the element with an electrical crimp connector, you could short out 2 adjacent coils and change the resistance (inductance) of the coil and create a hot spot and effect the engineered current flow, (or create arcing) causing a fire(lots of lint present). So, not advised as the consequences of fire could be loss of life...
it could work until your new element comes in but no professional would advise this. Danger danger. Yes, it could work but the stakes are high. Fire Hazzard. (Also, if the element is broke, due to age and fatigue, electrical characteristics change,, it would be advised to replace it, to regain the proper electrical characteristics, or your likely to be back in there again soon.

How do you know if you have to take the drum out or not? I have the front panel off and have that bracket off holding the tube which has the heating coil in it. @@calvinthomas2590I removed the element from the shell today but it was so difficult I thought it might be soldered in place. I removed the 4 screws holding the fuses (that the wires connect to) and used a flat screwdriver between the element and the shell. It finally worked after about 5 minutes of jiggling and pulling. I immediately saw a break in the coil, so it was worth it.

It was running for a lil bit but it ended up shutting itself off after about 5-10 minutes of drying then it kept tripping after that so I opened it back up and basically I broke the heating element after seeing 1 of the wires had been stuck onto that holder metal piece that goes in front.

Thank you for the great video!
Could you please help me with a predicament I put myself into?
Do you have a diagram or picture of the set up, so I can ensure I put it all back together the correct way? I'd be so grateful!
Like another one of commenters below, I no longer have pictures or diagrams I made of the wiring. I let my child play use my phone, and he inadvertently deleted a number of pictures... I'm concerned the wire routing will be or is perhaps wrong.
Sadly, during the replacement I ran into self-inflicted difficulties. I figured it'd be easier (Or at least I thought so...) to just replace all the parts. I purchased a complete kit on Amazon only ~$30. I was informed it was a direct replacement for my unit - Model # WED9200SQ1
This kit came with a 2 prong Hi-limit thermostat, & my unit requires a 3 prong version. :-(
As the element is intact, I suspect the Hi-limit this is the bad part. I'm going to remove it and test w/ multimeter. I'll order a new 314614 Part # 8557403 for another $18 again, :-( if this turns out to be bad.

Hopefully no one else watching your video will encounter this same problem.
Thanks in advance for your consideration. I hope I'll hear from you soon.
