Instruments: Irish Bouzouki, Lute-guitar, zitherette, bansuri, duduk and drums.
SOAD was basically already plugged-in bardcore, you just exposed their true potential in the genre. Excellent work as always
Agreed
100%. Aerials is already one of the best covers Algal has done.
@Nt40 that’s literally what this genre is called lol
yeah they are heavily based in Armenian folk music.
Bardcore! 😂
Love how you made the flute have its own beat instead of completely following the lyrics.
Actually proof that some thought went into this rearrangement, more than usual. So many times you hear rearrangements do the exact same thing as the original just with different instruments rather than building something unique by taking advantage of the new instruments, which often creates a weird feeling of something lacking.
This man's entire discography just became my D&D playlist
Only just discovered this guy and now I'm just making a tavern playlist of his music.
Wating someone to edit the entire Lord of The Rings trilogy and put this songs...
for real 😂❤
“I have a quest for you. You must wake up, collect a brush and apply a small amount of makeup. You must hide away the scars and fade away the shake up.”
😆
😆
I have so much respect for your multi-medieval-instrumentalism!
The flute taking the main melody slaps so SO HARD! Bravo!
The username checks out.
How is UA-cam not recommending this to everybody? This is one of the best SOAD covers ever!
I like how everyone else is all "I'll do a MIDI!" while this guy just casually learned several actual period instruments.
Not quite everyone. Hildegard von Blingin's renditions are far more than mere MIDIs. I especially recommend her exquisite take on Dolly Parton's classic, "Jolene" at ua-cam.com/video/ugqQlB5fpuc/v-deo.html Lady Hildegard's vocals are true works of art.
One of my favourite Bardcore artists!
I like that you put in a Duduk part as well, SOAD being an Armenian American band, it's cool to see cover artists referencing their origins!
i love this song the way you arrange it with these instruments really showcases how much soad's Armenian traditional folk roots actually came through in their nu metal. It's honestly gorgeous how it sounds in your version. It sounds very very old. You always know where to put a perfect trill/turn in the flute too :))
that's what always captures me in Algal's cover of Toxicity. The sheer force of Armenian traditional motives is overpowering there.
@@fey_wolf6309 isn't that gorgeous as well! so well suited for these type of covers
Sounds epic. Like it was written over 500 years ago. Really enjoy your covers!
"When The Oceans Drank Atlantis..."
2:42 - it really shines from this moment. It's like a true medieval ballad, as far as I can imagine. I would love to hear a full song based on this fragment solely. Great interpretation!
I see what you mean. Agreed!
Honestly, at this point, i just want a bardcore version of Holy Mountains
soldiers side would be great also
Well, as I said to friend "Algal is really good at what he does"
This was really good and I hope that maybe one day he plays "Soldier Side"
I always have to imagine how European medieval people like nobles would've reacted to your covers. Pretty sure SOAD would've been shocking to them even in this awesome version :D
I'm especially amazed how well you managed to do the climax of the last chorus here :)!
It basically sounds like it could be Persian/Northeast Mediterranean/Caucasus music to me. It's got some of that Scythian horseman vibe in the drums and guitar, but the flute and harp speaks more of the Mesopotamians; look up the Hurrian Hymn No. 6 (Also known as the Hymn to Nikkal, dating to 1500 BCE or so, and the oldest known piece of recorded music) and you'll probably be surprised at how it feels like it could be something written today. Similarly, the oldest known complete tune, the seikilos epitaph song from Greece circa 100-200 BCE, sounds like it wouldn't be out of place in medieval courts, or beside either the Hymn or this reinterpretation of SOAD's Chop Suey. Additionally, I doubt we could codify "European nobles" into a single group or even two truly diametrically opposed groups because there's simply so much variety. For example, Hungary's people today in a fair part now descend from their ancient Onogur Bulgarian conquerors, who ranged all across Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia, which also includes the area where the Scythians lived a millenia before they as a people were defined; while small in number (given how little of their asian genetics remain compared to the eastern-european base) it's quite possible that the nomadic horsemen of Scythia are in large part the ancestors of the Onogur Bulgarians themselves, too, though that's just conjecture on my part; we do know that they had ~40% Asian DNA similar to that of the Mongols and Khazars, via archeological genetics, at least.
Same
@@KainYusanagi SOAD members are armenian, which is Caucasus.
@@pepupapi HAH! That's even more fitting.
They would've cut his hands off and set him on fire lol
This could be easily a battle song in a great RPG game!
So many details in this one. The fast-picked bouzouki in the intro giving that distinct balkan feel, an Armenian instrument in the duduk, the addition of the zitherette... Excellent stuff.
For some reason I listened to Toxicity in the Bardcore style like 30 times this week, so this is certainly a treat! Thank you, my Lord Algal the Bard!
UA-cam: How many more SOAD do you want Algal The Bard to do?
Me: YES
awesome 🤘
I love this. It's a great way to play background music for my players in DnD that's appropriate but also triggers familiarity
Ive listened to this 7 times in a row. It deserves a million views!
This is absolutely amazing! Especially the flute parts, the way you add more of a tune to the vocals and do the harmonization is truly haunting in a good way.
I honestly do wonder what medieval people would think of this haha.
a song worth a king
I'm absolutely loving the duduk in this piece! It blends so well!
One of the best covers I’ve ever heard. 👏
That intro is stunning. The chorus sounds damn near Machaut-like.
And you did Chop Suey!! SOAD one of my favorite groups of all time!! 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
God this is SO fucking good it sounds like it was made for this!!!! 🙏😭💖💖
You did it again! SoaD is always a good choice. I would love to hear a Fair to Midland cover.

This is staggeringly brilliant. Mind-blowingly talented 🙌🏻
SOAD is pretty much the farthest away as you can be from being easy to, ahem, let's say: algalize. Still, you did it. Excellent job!

This blew my mind a hell of a lot more than I expected. Absolutely amazing work and def need more of it!
If you are not playing at my wedding, i'm not coming...

I love the Irish bouzouki. Its a very modern instrument with a very old sound :D
Wow! This is amazing!
This guy is a brilliant! Listened to all medieval cover artist, but he is way-way ahead of everyone else! 🙌
This is incredible. Wonderful job! I already really enjoyed your D&D content, and this too is speaking directly to my teenage years. :D
Why hast thou forsaken me in thine eyes,
Forsaken me in thy thoughts,
Forsaken me in thy heart,
Forsaken me? O!
Incredible work as always, thank you for this
Nice one !
Finally the original recording of the old Armenian traditional song SOAD covered has been unearthed!
There is the thing about SOAD. They aren't sticking to the one and only genre, mixing everything up so basically what's cooking is not a rock music, or metal etc. It's a music mix of everything they like, including folk, so taking their music into other genres doesn't work like you expect. It's still sounds cool and harmonic, but it also sounds NATIVE to that genre.
Keep up the good work brother
I love how you threw in some Armenian Duduk as well in honor of SOAD. Awesome cover Algal!
So dang good! Love this version
Totally spot on and awesome yet totally its own thing, you rock in a very calming way!
AWESOME!
Love it. The way you translated the harmony of the chorus into the duduk and the high flute is masterful.
Always marvellous covers!
Thank you for putting the names of the instruments you used for this cover, in the description.
