I remember hearing this song live for the first time. It was at the gig in Constantinople back in 1139.
Great times. I recall this song was just an encore in 1138 before it got huge.
🤣Love it, great comment!
You made my day thanks! 🤣🤣
@@JeffOfTheMountains Yeah after the Treaty of Durham was instantly followed by another conflict, this became somewhat of an unofficial anthem for the English civil war. Didn't know it got all the way to Constantinople though, that's huge.
Yeah the Emperor put on that free concert. I really miss the reign of John II Komnenos. Ah, good times.
I strum upon my lute
To cries of those, who would hear me mute
Now take up your flute
We will never stop, we're resolute.
This is (DMT)astic!
This is actually GOOD!
Dude you need to write the rest of the lyrics to this song!
Get scanlan
I don't ever duke to the Duke that saw me fluke ain't I ain't no Luke but tonight I puke this darkness I'm a cuke and it ain't cute I need the loot my dark energy makes me snoop to world's that have better loot I just want it I just need it I walk alone
Imagine having Algal in your D&D party playing as the Bard class.
Rolls 20's every time.
Makes me wonder if he actually plays D&D.
At that point him fucking the dragon would be just your average Saturday afternoon
Gotta keep him from entering haven at all costs tho, rolling a nat 20 on the gods would give him way too much power.
This would be amazing
OP
i remember listening to this during the crusades. i miss those days
Indubitably
Christian bastard!
#JustImmortalThings
The great classroom crusades of the hysküle kingdom.
Bro, so nostalgic
Outstanding. That's not a cover. It's a total conversion. Love how you actually apply the Bardic genre onto it and not just play the same notes with other instruments.
Technically it is still a cover nonetheless. What you described is literally the definition of a "rearrangement". And a "cover" can be played with or without any rearrangements in the song structure.
@@hadifelani thank you! I lack musical knowledge so to me they were all covers 😅 this helps me understand how much more I appreciate when musicians do rearrangements
@@riccardoguidolin6085 You're welcome. Rearranging a song can be tricky though. It can be either easy or difficult. But usually what made it "difficult" is when the source has a different scale to the target arrangements. For example, changing a Major (Ionian) Scale song that usually brings out a happy vibe, into a Minor (Aeolian) scale that typically had a sad sound to it. Like this _Smells Like Teen Spirit_ by *Nirvana* that's turned into major -> ua-cam.com/video/dVehv_LDWaE/v-deo.html PS : It sounded like a disney song lmao. David Bennet Piano took this topic into a lesson -> ua-cam.com/video/Ytty5M1nLAE/v-deo.html
Trying to mimick a certain musician are sometimes hard as well. Because you need to understand what makes said musician _unique_ to their songs. Like the tendency to pull out some lick that's originated from a completely different genre, or the base of their music progression. Like this _A Thousand Miles_ by *Vanessa Carlton* that's been played with the style of Blink182 -> ua-cam.com/video/8VUz5bmUVPw/v-deo.html&pp=ygULYWxleCBtZWx0b24%3D and this _Bad Blood_ by *Taylor Swift* that's been played with the style of Disturbed -> ua-cam.com/video/AxBTwMYkCBI/v-deo.html&pp=ygUZYW50aG9ueSB2aW5jZW50IGJhZCBibG9vZA%3D%3D
Anthony Vincent, Alex Melton, Andy Rehfeldt, Nik Nocturnal, Charles Cornell, Halocene, Leo Moracchioli, Postmodern Jukebox, Scary Pockets, and Melodicka Brothers are a few examples of UA-cam musicians that has a good understanding of music theories and able to execute the rearrangements into various/multiple kinds of genres and/or mimicking other musician's uniqueness perfectly.
@@hadifelani Well, cover is in fact a rearrangement of a song. The problem is that many people just copy original song and mark their copy as a cover while it's nearly identical as the original version.
@@PierreDoley as I've said before, it can be with or without a rearrangement. It's a cover if the player isn't the original song owner.
Simply copying the play is a problem indeed, but that's not the point. They're still counted as a cover nonetheless.
Algal the Bard is quite easily the best Bardcore musician out there. All songs are completely rewritten and actually played by real instruments and not just some keyboard voice and excellently played. It's superb.

I don't know, have you heard Hilgegard von Blingin'?
He's 'less' bardcore than this, but check out Ren (gill), the tales trilogy. He's an excellent storyteller
Check AlinaGingertail. Not the same but quite nice
@@AnjaLerntDeutsch Agreed!
The traditional instruments give the song a more gentle and wistful feel. You can truly hear the loneliness echoing from the cobblestones.
you pulled this down to the bare bones, and revealed an even more beautiful song
This is one of my favourite songs, and to hear it covered so lovingly is divine. You continue to do amazing work Algal. 2023 is off to a hot start.
We fortunately got a bard to come along our journey to the holy land 1098. It was the first time I heard this. Great times
This beat summoned the ghost of Banquo
explanation. Lord Banquo, the Thane of Lochaber, is a semi-historical character in William Shakespeare's 1606 play Macbeth. In the play, he is at first an ally of Macbeth, both are generals in the King's army.
💀😂
Bardcore is almost as fascinating as acapella, and this is exactly the reason why. I never would have thought Green Day would translate into medieval instruments, but you nailed it.
You know, I often find myself liking Algal The Bard's covers more than the originals. This is one such.
I feel like I'm sitting in a castle in ancient times being entertained by a very talented bard! Really well filmed and beautifully put together! Great work my friend. 😀👍👍
Un-ironically this is smooth enough to put in a Skyrim playthrough.
Like, legit it makes an excellent background piece to play in town.
Not too complicated, but oh SO SO CLEAN. Nice work
You’re one of my top favorite bardcore musicians, and this was an amazing cover!!
not me just freaking looping this for the last hour while i work from home
We need to get this guy and that one dude who sings in classical Latin together for a full album.
When your playing baldurs gate and this pops up in your UA-cam feed…. You have been looking up bard builds alittle TOO much
As someone who's tried to play on one of those chanters, you have my respect for making it look like just another flute. Love the cover!
Oh wow, I hadn't even recognized that's what it was, but once I read that I had flashbacks to when my wife thought she was going to play bagpipes and took lessons; they started her on a practice chanter. She gave up after a couple weeks, but managed to talk her teacher into playing at our son's baptism. It was the first time pipes were played in our church.
@@Brigand231 My dad also learned, but I gave the chanter a try and could only barely make it sound. Takes a lot of skill to play. And lung capacity...
@@Brigand231 yeah it doesn't look like a practice chanter, but I play bagpipes and the practice chanter can be harder than the bags sometimes
I love it ! It's both relaxing and motivating somehow, exactly what I needed 😍
Just amazing! Love to hear you do Linkin Park Numb.
Wow! A perfect blend of these musical instruments! I like how you played all of them by yourself to produce this. It must have taken a lot of hard work. Appreciate you for your hard work for bringing wonderful music to us all. Thumbs up!
this soothes the soul
it's like a fairy tale, when the hero walking across every village, seeing many views, like field of grass, blowing wind through his hair, seeing children playing football or something.. mountains, rivers and etc.
UA-cam REMOVED THE SHUFFLE BUTTON ON PLAYLISTS AND NOW I AM MAD! (Yes you're in my playlist keep it up my man!)
Algar never dissapoints!
Love how it’s tuned down. Makes it sound more authentic for the period! Great job!
I love your covers so much 🤍 this one speaks to me as I loved the song as a teen, your version is so chill and beautiful. Thank you for making so cool music ☺️✨
Beautiful sound, and for the most part lovely arrangement. My only critique is that I would have loved for the Viol to make an appearance to add some body to the bass. (being a bass player, bass is important to me! :-P )
Nice cover as always ! Make me want to go to a tavern do some D&D games xD
I like the sound of the Flabiol. It really carries the song and fits so well.
This song in this style makes so much sense.
This was just amazing. Very talented. I raise my horn of mead to you, good sir
This guy really shows you how great some songs really are. To cross over to these instruments and STILL be a great listen...
Somehow, it fits perfectly.
Beautiful.
It's 1am and this just made me smile. So glad I heard this. Love it.
Imagine hearing those flute rearrangements on an open-world game.
Algorithm comment. You deserve so many more views
This was the first song I got on my 250mb MP3 player. Lol. Nostalgia with bard core, that’s an experience!
Reminds me of this times when I was a wee lad back in 1510.
i can die happy
The best of the best of the best!!! 👍👍👍👍👍😁😁😁
Another beautiful adaptation. Thank you!
First notes gave me goosebump. Please never stop your art Algal
My favorite bard doing a cover of my favorite Green Day song? Hell yeah!
I can only imagine what if there was some medieval that actually played this way back then and green day just rediscovered it and algal is actually play the actual version
Algal proving he can play anything he lays his fingers on
This is really beautiful! I don't know if you're interested to do this, but i think it would be amazing if you would showcase the instruments you use and explain them a little bit.
That would be really interesting.
dude your Name and Profile pic made me lol fr
Another outstanding cover. I really like how Algal uses the flute to fill in for the vocals; it's hard to say, but it seems to really add a kind of emotional quality to the song.
This is my absolute favourite Green Day song and your cover of it is absolutely amazing. I love it. (Keep up the good work; I love your videos!)
I'm playing this on loop so I can sing to it. 😊
I don't know all the the lyrics so they're for me. 😬
Lyrics:
"I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me, and I walk alone
I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one, and I walk alone
I walk alone, I walk alone
I walk alone, I walk a-
My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes, I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then, I walk alone
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah
I'm walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the borderline
Of the edge, and where I walk alone
Read between the lines
What's fucked up, and everything's alright
Check my vital signs
To know I'm still alive, and I walk alone
I walk alone, I walk alone
I walk alone, I walk a-
My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes, I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then, I walk alone
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, I walk alone, I walk a-
I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one, and I walk a-
My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes, I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then, I walk alone."
How skilled is this guy! Wow! Hats off..
Algal the Bard deserves every Like
Another banger, great cover!
Algal, my man, you are killing it!
Makes this the PERFECT traveling music 😌
Love your covers dude! 🤘

Awesome work as always!!!
Next one.. Sultans of Swing pppls?!?!!!
Great rendition! Love the channel!
Brutal como siempre!! Directa a la playlist !!
These are all great! Keep making
Man, I love your music so much. This was so soothing.
This is so delightful! Such a joy to listen to.
So lovely! Thank you 🌻
doesn't matter which song he plays, I just love his style, and could listen to any
This is just fantastic!
Wow, what a great performance! I love it, thank you for this ❤️
I've realized this cover on my homepage right now. I'm so excited, thank you again!!
Beautiful rendition. New sub through an ad I saw. Love what you're doing with this bardcore stuff. Very clearn recording!!! Sweet
So much talent, thanks for this one!
I can't believe you hadn't covered this song before now, it fits so perfectly! Love it!!
Great as always, happy new year!
These guys are amazing.
Outstanding! You are incredible.
Thank you for this song! 😀💐
Eu sempre me impressiono com a genialidade desse cara. Só de pensar q ele tem q substituir cada instrumento e o vocal por instrumentos muito diferentes, e mesmo assim fazer soar perfeitamente bem, além de tocar todos os instrumentos ele mesmo.
realmente ele faz um trabalho impressionante
One of your best!
Another great piece marvellously played. Pleasure to listen to your works.
Man. Your song selection, like your ability, continues to be top-tier.
I love what you do, Algal! Your channel invariably yields pure enjoyment. 🥰
I love it!
beautiful.
So a D&D campaign that I've been running with a close friend for over 2 and a half years came to an end last week. We cried that day. I heard this, thinking of the party's Bard playing it in a tavern one day, reminiscing about the friends they made on their adventures... And I stg I might cry again.
Well done man! Just lovely.
Wonderful
I can't imagine putting all of that work into this and then cutting out the climax of the song.
I was not expecting to enjoy this nearly as much as I did. It's wonderful!
love it thank you
Lovely
I can listen to this forever! So beautiful.
Wow, that hand drum sounds fantastic! Good stuff man!
I was waiting for this 😍
“Promenade of Vanquish’d Dreams”
I walkest hitherto
Along the road forsaken ever bound
Whitherto unknown
Yet ’tis my abode to wander round
. . .
You sir are amazing!
Needed this, this morning. Thank you so much.
Great. Awsome. I love it!!
Damn this works so well !!! Bard. You would be perfect for the medieval festival here where I live !!! Have a look at the Calatravas fiesta, Alcaudete . Great work man !! Love it
