Fun fact, the voice actor for Kiryu (the guy in the white suit) is actually in a band as the lead singer, hence why he has a pretty good voice!

He acts under the code name Takaya Kuroda (visually based on a minor side character from yakuza 5 victory road sub story) to avoid revealing himself and opening investigations into japan’s political leaders.

The best part about these mini games is that you can play them almost any point in the story. Meaning you can go from contemplating killing a blind woman one moment and sing Karaoke the next

The yakuza/LAD games are so hard to explain, cus the main story can break your heart but the side content is literally the most insane stuff, from running a cabaret club to beat a group of "evil" cabaret clubs to fighting a monkey in construction equipment
Or trying to shut down a giant industrial strength roomba
We love that it doesn’t take itself too seriously while still being able to deliver a good story 🙂😀
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I'd argue it's the contrary- it's *because* the characters take even the smallest stuff seriously that makes it funny. They put in 100% of themselves in everything, regardless of whether that's protecting their loved ones from hitmen, running a side business, or playing video games. It's at once heartwarming and hilarious to see Kiryu Kazuma, a man who looks like he was chiseled from raw beef, falling to his knees in despair because he lost a slot car race to a bunch of kids.
Side quests break your heart too. I just did the side quest with the guy who had to change his face 😥
I think were it gets kinda hard to understand the story is when you mix in judgement with you play a detective in the same area at the same time and meet kiryu.
Two things: The building in the "Bakamitai" video was the orphanage that Kiryu grew up in with his best friend and blood brother, who is also the long-haired guy singing with him in "Judgment."
And, awesome!! I'm so happy you did the karaoke videos! Almost the entire series has crazy karaoke videos like these.

Bakamitai is in almost every one of the games with basically the same video. But the picture changes each time.
Yeah, the picture changes according to the singer, if I remember correctly.
Also the long haired guy in Judgement, Nishiki, is ultimately the final boss of Yakuza 1 and its remake, Yakuza Kiwami.

Answers to some questions you might have:
Alongside the fighting and story you can do karaoke and disco. You can even go bowling, play darts, play with claw machines, do circuit racing with miniature cars and even more.
The photo in the "Bakamitai" one with Kiryu is a place known as "sunflower", the orphanage where Kiryu grew up.
The reason why Majima and Kiryu insert themselves into the songs sung by the women here is because to listen to those songs in-game you have to go on dates with them, and provide backup vocals. You can listen to versions of the songs without them outside the game on sites like youtube, spotify, etc.
The two people with Kiryu on the "judgement" music video is his sworn brother Nishiki (the one that performs with him and is also in the disco later) and the one in the suit on the right is Kashiwagi, a man they both look up to.
Kiryu's voice actor Takaya Kuroda is a professional singer with his own band (Takaya Kuroda and Goodfellas. They're insanely good, would recommend checking them out). Kiryu is essentially "the yakuza guy" because he's the protagonist for many of the games, and not a single one of his karaoke songs have ever truly disappointed. I recommend listening to his yakuza kiwami, kiwami 2, 4 and 6 ones.
The little things or "ghosts" as Bethany called it, are small characters designed off of the characters dancing. Kiryu's looks angry, Majima's has an eye patch, Nishiki's just looks goofy and some of the others have their own designs.
Should you play the game? Yes.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGamesdude if you havent played 0 you are missing out heavily. Just remember after 0 nothing will feel on that level.
All of this is historically accurate. Majima is cheering on the third song; he knows several of the ladies singing as some used to work for him so he is very protective of them. Kiryu is cheering on the fifth song, he becomes a regular at the bar if you're trying for all the game's achievements. On the hardest difficulty the dancing is *brutal*. You're allowed to screw up once.
The Kiryu Ghost has a Kiryu face. Not even death can change the eyebrows of Justice™.

The story of Yakuza games is always so amazing and serious that you just need a break in the karaoke bar to compose yourself. That is why there are so many funny side stories as well.
Sounds like a good time playing this game. And the humorous moments like this helping break up the serious stuff is fantastic 🤩
I'm not mistaken the image in Baka Mitai is of the orphanage that Kiryu and his sworn brother Nishiki (the guy also in a leather jacket in Judgement and the one in red during Kiryu's disco) grew up in. Baka Mitai is in most of the games performed by several characters, and the video stays largely the same but the photo on the bar changes with each game/character

Nanba's version in Like A Dragon retains the same video, but is sung in English in the English dub

The best part about 24 hours Cinderella is the fact Majima know it perfectly, he is able to sing it out of nowhere without any mistakes as shown in the Karaoke he didn't even look the screen or the fact the rythm when he bash the head of someone on a wall is in perfect synch with the song
I love how their videos went from commentating on how brutal their fighting styles and moves are and then immediately to this. They went through the Yakuza 0 experience through reactions.

Majima actually has that outfit and has memorized 24 hour Cinderella. He sings it as a distraction during a side story and in either Ykuza Kiwami or Yakuza Kiwami 2 he’ll attack Kiryu in said outfit.
It’s actually pretty standard in Japan, when going to do karaoke as a group, for the people who are not singing to support the singer with things like tambourines, maracas, cowbells, and even cheer and provide backing vocals to the song.
That sounds like a fun karaoke night 😀
You guys need to do a play through of this game because you will never laugh or cry as hard as with this series.

Yakuza 0 is one of those games where you're compelled to see people's fresh reactions because it's the closest thing to playing it for the first time again.
Majima's backup for Rouge of Love is even more hilarious (that's what Kiryu (white suit guy) was saying through the song, "everybody say rouge of love"), also bar hostess sings it the best, but has no cutscene :(. Also there's some other disco songs which are totally amazing as well (Friday Night, Queen of the Passion, I'm gonna make her mine, I wanna take you home). The latter is basically a dancing mini game, can be even played against a real person via LAN-connection iirc, shame not online. That or you can dance against Michael Jackson, sorry Miracle Johnson*. Ah, that's reminds me I was writing guide on Yakuza 0 disco but it got lost, very few people understand how to properly dance it... I KNOW LYRICS OF KOI NO DISCO QUEEN AND CAN FULLY SING IT. You should check "Get to the Top" song sometime...
Man Yakuza games are the best. Main story is a criminal drama, side content is pure insanity in the best possible way. Playing Yakuza 0 was one of the very best decisions of my life, so much happiness.
Yeah what a disappointment that it wasn't the Majima version.

Now I am going through the entire series and 0 was still the best for me.
Yakuza 0 is maybe the most accurate game at portraying the gritty dark life of a member of the Yakuza.
Fun Fact: Baka Mitai is the one song that persists through most of the Yakuza games and each variation has the same music video but with a different photo for each protagonist to represent a sad memory from their past, and while Kiryu's cover is quite somber, the others are more optimistic in tone

When i first played that 24 hour Cinderella i was grinning and laughing too hard and had to watch it on UA-cam to experience it fully. I loved seeing their faces just light up at this actual criminal dancing on skates

Apparently, the voice actor for Kiryu (the serious guy in the white suit) is the lead singer of a band outside of his voice work, so it makes sense his character is a great singer. You guys should watch more of these karaoke videos from Yakuza, even if it's on your own time. Every game in the franchise has these minigames, and most (if not all) of the songs are nothing short of amazing.

I am so upset the original video has kiryu's background vocals for Rouge of Love, when Majima sings the backgrounds he goes totally off the rails and starts cackling like a hyena

When it comes to Yakuza:
Main Story is super serious, surreal crime drama with twists and turns that will make you cheer and cry, inspire and destroy, and has me engaged! I cant wait to continue it!

That second song, Baka Mitai, is a huge meme. A lot of people who have never even heard of the Yakuza games know it. People have described it as Japan’s version of Careless Whisper. Though Baja Mitai is used in a much sadder way.
That home in Bakamitai was the orphanage Kiryu (the man singing) grew up in. The song itself is a romance song about getting your heartbroken, and fits more with Majima's (the guy singing 24 Hour Cinderella) storyline in later games

yakuza games are something else between fighting roombas, bears and tigers with your fists and on the other side legit drama with kidnapped children, dead parents and betrayal these game's don't balance on the edge of serious and silly, they run full force in both directions simultaneously and do an amazing job at both somehow
Bakamitai means foolish. The song is about sorrow over a failed relationship. Eventhough he still loves her, he knows it's best they aren't together. Each game it's featured, the picture is different. In this one, it's the orphanage where he grew up.
Remember Yakuza is super serious game about the inner workings of the Japanese mafia.

This game series will make you cry your eyes out from both laughter and the hardest hitting sadness you’ll ever experience in a game. Just beautiful. I used to not like Japanese games. Still don’t for the most part. But I was bored one day and decided “What the hell? Seems cool. I’ll give it a shot.” And that is how I fell in love with my favorite game series of all time. Damn I’d love to fall in love with it again. And I envy anyone who gets to experience it for the first time.
I highly recommend you look up the Majima Everywhere cutscenes for Yakuza Kiwami. Majima declares Kiryu as his rival, and dedicates himself to challenging Kiryu when he least expects it. It… gets a little ridiculous, and it says a lot when him pole dancing is the least ridiculous thing he does
The building in the photo in Bakametai is the orphanage that Kiryu grew up in. It was owned and run by a high-up yakuza boss who used it as a front to launder money. Kiryu's gratitude toward that boss is what led Kiryu to joining that yakuza clan.
This was definitely unexpected but it is definitively accepted

All those lighthearted little side things are necessary since the story of Yakuza can be pretty hard on the feels. I felt the need to master all things disco in this game due to the story making me cry.
So the going out is not only for the characters but for the players as well 😊

4:00 This was the Orphanage he grew up in pictured where he grew up with the co singer in Judgement and the keyboard players was one of the people who raised him growing up.
there's plenty of these minigames in these titles, they show a softer side to of these characters
oh and that part where you fight a monkey, everyone talks about that monkey
The main story is an amazing crime drama. But even the side stuff don't have a drop in quality like in most games (where there's a number of fetch quests); at the same time, even the side content isn't ignored as familiar faces appear in later games (if you're playing the games according to the story's timeline and not by release date).
Takaya Kuroda (the voice of Kiryu, the guy in the white suit) is legendary for his singing in these games. That's actually him singing each song and not somebody else. He said he loves to sing and is even part of a band if I remember right. He's such a good singer
the dance mini game is so fun basically the more squares you take before hitting the prompts the more points you receive and it helps royally for the last dance boss haha.
One thing you will learn about Kiryu is he is a massive dork XD

To answer your question Kiryu’s “Bakametai”, the photo he was looking and reminiscing about was the orphanage he and his friend Nishikiyama used to live in before they were adopted by Kazama and joined the Yakuza.
When choosing a song in karaoke you can also choose to be a backup singer/instrumentalist for someone else. So it's actually the player making those weird background noises lol
I love how wacky the Yakuza games are. One minute you're doing serious gang work, the next you're watching a grown man in a diaper drink from a bottle.
Interjections during Karaoke are actually just part of the fun of it in Japan. It's expected for someone to get into it as support, at least.

The way the disco dancing minigame works is you're supposed to move the little character around, get them into the tile with the button prompt, and press it just as the glowing border has shrunk to perfectly align with the edges of the tile(which is also timed to the song's rhythm). You get bonus points for how many steps you made the little character take on the way to that tile.
So there’s a fun fact about Majima singing 24 hour Cinderella. He wears the costume again in Yakuza Kiwami, and his word choice heavily implies he actually did the whole song and dance routine at some point
Pretty sure In baka mitai the picture Kiryu looks at is an orphanage he grew up in. Also in the dancing game the ghost is angry because it matches kiryu's stern expression, i think if you dance as majima the ghost gets an eyepatch

Yakuza is such a unique franchise there’s serious badass narratives and combat but you also get these super silly side activities and quest its a perfect contrast between the incredible and serious storyline and the lighthearted and unusual side stories
Judgement is sooo epic, love the brothers rockin out together!

I think I know what next New Years cosplay is. Also from what I understand most Japanese VAs are capable singers. Like they'll take singing lessons and singers take up VA work because they both have similar skills and one or the other will propel with either career. A lot of times you'll hear in anime one of the characters VAs is singing something in the soundtrack.
Also it doesn't matter what the situation Kiryu gives it his all which is half the fun of the series. So many of the side quests are him running into some weirdo, learning their life story, and doing whatever need be to solve the problem. Wether that's getting good at racing video games, delivering pizza, shooting a music, it doesn't matter Kiryu is will take time out of his schedule to make things right.
Majima is similar but he's more so forced into some situations and doesn't get to invested. However he's competitive and often gets mixed up into stuff because of that. He has similar adventures to Kiryu but in his own and sometimes totally unique. Like I suck at pool but you bet your ass I'll get good at it if it gets that girl to go to college. That's not even why he's there in the first place it just happened.

This reminds me of how I miss Karaoke :D. We had 1 bar, and in 1 club even a stage with karaoke here in my german town. It was so fun going up there and singing for 30+ people despite the crippling anxiety. That's why I only sung after a few drinks xD. Going on stage with my best friend (we are both dudes fyi) and shredding through linkin park songs and marilyn manson was fun as duette, or eminem songs.
Yes our music taste was everything that is a good song :). Still can't growl properly to save my life without hurting the vocal cords tho and hate the sound of my own voice :D.
Feels like most people hate the sound of their own voice, but acting like a rockstar, rapper, heavy metal singer is what’s fun about Karaoke. As long as you are having fun the crowd has fun 😀😎🤟🥳
Yakuza is an amazing series. Both serious and hilarious. I'm glad i got to play them and become familiar with the legendary Kiryu and Majima.
If you plan on doing more yakuza reactions, I would recommend all dynamic boss fight intros, as they are pretty cool. They would obviously be spoilers for each game though.

Little fac : in Yakuza , the girls which you can find their video tape and telephone card plus the girls that you can date in side quests are all AV (adult video) actress. In the other Yakuza the girls are AV actress or gravure idole (sexy magazine cover). Nice for the studio to used them. It's part of the japanese culturre.
