The Singer 12 domestic sewing-machine was the first truly reliable and usable sewing machine to reach the market around the time of the US Civil War. It's the machine that launched Singer as a profitable company that dominated the sewing machine market for decades. Isaac Singer took the best elements of sewing machines invented at the time and combined them into this machine to create a viable machine for the masses. Not only were they reliable, functional and easier to use than previous machines, they were beautiful and made for a kinds of materials. These machines were made from 1863-1902. In this video of the Singer model 12, I show you how to set the needle, wind a long bobbin, thread the bobbin shuttle (case), thread the upper thread, set the bobbin tension and set the upper thread tension.
