Antique Singer IF Fiddle-Base Sewing Machine Tutorial | Thread Machine, Backstitch, Zigzag & Darning

- IF 'Improved Family' Singer Sewing Machine, oscillating long beak shuttle, lock stitch, Serpentine fiddle-base bed plate, old style (simple) bobbin winder, treadle model, made in USA.
Needle: 15 x 1
*This machine is Oscillating Shuttle, not VS (vibrating shuttle)
How to sew using this fiddle base Singer treadle sewing machine. In this video I showed how to take out the shuttle from the machine and how to load the long bobbin into the shuttle and then put it back into the machine. I also thread the machine and showed how to insert a needle correctly. This machine uses Class 15 needle system (such as 15x1, 2020, 130/705, HAx1 etc). I also showed how to backstitch, do darning, and how to sew 'zigzag’ to neaten the edges of fabric.
I did not show how to wind bobbin in this video to make the video shorter. If you would like to see how to wind the bobbin, please watch my previous video, the tutorial for Singer 27, I will put the link to the video below:

About me: I learned to sew from watching my neighbour, who was a tailor, sew. She often came to our house (to use my Mom's Singer treadle sewing machine) to sew some work that she brought home. I learned professional sewing techniques by just watching her sew quietly. And I learned to make patterns from my Mom's notes from her Dressmaking school days. I was 15 yo then.
I mentioned this to explain why I don't usually talk in my videos. I learned more from visuals than from verbal instructions. I hope that my viewers can also learn in the same way.

You got some great treadle skills ,, like you my fiddle base is missing the front shuttle cover , i ended up just buying another complete machine so i can make one fully assembled with correct parts , i never understand how the covers just seem to go missing , even the machines i have apart are still all together , no parts mixed up or misplaced , wish i had a spare front cover , i would send ya one , ill keep you in mind if a come accross another cover ......great video 👍

What for is the tape on the needle plate?
The cover for the needle plate is small, and not for this machine, so I tape it to secure it.
@@sewwithmrsg I just found out my peddle base have a bar that is wood. I thought it was rust on metal that I am trying to remove. Last night slept was terrified 😨 thinking I may have damaged the wood. Why would they have used a bar of wood On the treadle base.? U feel an apology to my treadle is in order🥲😅

@@sewwithmrsg Thanks, the wood seems to survive but maybe I need to shellac it to protect after it dry. It was misery waiting for daylight to check on her. I told my hubby that a fainting couch 🛋 was in order . He stretched his arms and said that was cheaper and available 🤣.
