I started painting 2 years ago when I was 70. I have been following you since I started and have learned so much! This particular tutorial I find fascinating, since I’ve always enjoyed impressionist paintings. You’ve made it seem much easier than I thought. Thank you for all your wonderful tutorials. Happy Holidays!
Iam 75 new at this thank u You Jodi you are a great teacher ... looking forward to creating so many great paintings in 2024 😅😂😊 happy new year from Ireland 🇮🇪 🎉
I'm 83 yes old. I've been watching you for a couple of months and have learned a lot from you. You are an amazing teacher. I will continue watching and continue learning. Thank you.
Wow! You are great. I love painting. I just dont know how to make it look professionally. After watching this segment. I was amazed. In the beginning the rectangle box looked weird but then...I tried it and now I can't stop drawing these little boxes to make people. Thank you for helping me get it together. I am 72 years young and now thanks to you, I can draw people...yay!
I’m so glad that you can still paint after breaking both arms. You are a testament to the power of overcoming adversity to continue to do what you enjoy. ❤️
Thank you for also placing your paints to the left of the canvas so that we can see directly what paint you’re using and how much. I’ve painted for many years but never learned how to paint people and my instructors never taught that. So very helpful and appreciated..
I love doing people like this for warm ups. It’s always fun to change their direction. A little lighter color on the face area and they’re walking toward you; no lighter color or a bit of hair and they’re walking away. So fun.
I used think painting people was hard, getting caught up in the details. My teacher taught me to "plant" carrots 🥕 then add a dot for the head and a line on each side for arms. Essentially painting a long upside-down triangle. But I also remember painting a lot of figure 8's for the body too. Thanks for sharing Joni. 😊
I’ve learned so much from watching this video. You’re an amazing artist and teacher, who is terrific at explaining what you do, and why you do it. I’m going to watch this video over and over until I get it right. Thank you so much for sharing your talent!
I have just started painting and I am 58 years old. I drew a lot as a child, then life got in the way. I love watching your videos and you are absolutely amazingly talented and it turns out so nice.
How wonderful are you?!! I have been loving the figures in the paintings lately ... they fascinate me how simple they are yet portray so much detail. Thank you! 💜💜
I have just decided to give Acrylic painting a go after a couple of years trying Watercolour painting and I just have to say that I am completely blown away by your work and your great tutorials !! Thank you ❤️❤️
Thanks so much for sharing. I'm a beginner and find your tutorial so amazing. I am struggling with my emotions as I am very nervous to start. I find your tutorial so relaxing. I would definitely follow your tutorials. Thank you.
Beautiful explained I am 68 years old and decided to give myself a few hours a day taking painting instruction from UA-cam videos, so I have subscribed.
I love this!! Beautifully done I always have to sit back and admire when an artist can make things so simply and "make my brain do the work" (in a good way!) filling in details. It's a skill I'm working on. Will need to rewatch and follow along!
❤ you're not just an artist, you're a mind reader dear 😅, I was only looking at the colourful umbrella painting last night thinking I might manage that one? 👏👏👏👏👏, I've been on a Joni painting binge watching session ❤thank you again 🥰
I’m primarily a watercolorist now, having started in acrylics years ago. Every time I watch one of your videos, I want to get out my acrylics! 😂 I find that I can use so many of your techniques with both mediums, so thank you for all the help! You’re a very good instructor and I’m grateful to you. 🎉❤
My gosh girl what a talent you have-your teaching videos are amazing, and thank you for ,yes - giving away painting techniques, which takes you years of time and practise to be as good as you are- Thanks again.
Just done this one, as my first ever painting (at 71) and been getting some encouraging comments - thank you for the informative video - think I’ve chosen my next one too!
I love how you take your time showing and taking your time to demonstrate to us, I'm just starting only a couple months into painting , I started out with fluid art and I want to expand to learn more things. Joni, I can’t thank you enough for sharing this video on painting abstract people. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for and you are so easy to follow and I appreciate you so much! Love, love love!
This is amazing! Something so intimidating and you break it down into such easy to follow steps! They look so much more detailed than they are. Love it!
I love the way you explain in simple terms what you are doing! I was wondering if you had any tutorials like this one that features the older style of outer wear like from the 40's or 30's? I believe you did one but I can not seem to find it. It was also a rainy scene only in black and white...Thank you so much!
Just getting into painting rocks, age 74 yr. Watched your stick figure tutorial & am just intrigued / amazed!! I needed a hobby ( handicapped) & excited that I FOUND one!! TY
I Love your figures, I have to paint a baby, toddler, and a 4 year old, in her book..I am really trying hard to do this, Thank You so very much for your help..n Tips..Love n Hugs Barbie..
Wow I’m feeling so blessing finding your videos on UA-cam! Do you gesso all your canvases before painting or did you just start on this with water? Thanks Joni!
Thank you so much! I didn’t even realised how 37 minutes passed 😊 And I am glad that I learned the eight figure tip which helps for women drawing perfectly.
Just think your painting is phenomenal - beautiful & simple, yet very complex. Your gift for painting is wonderful, and your gift of teaching is a real treasure. Thank you so very much - am grateful to have found you!

You GO! Awesome❤️❤️❤️
Very good explanation thank you
I paint ballerinas but needed to learn how to paint figures. I love how she teaches. I am 74. Perhaps we.should form a group? ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for also placing your paints to the left of the canvas so that we can see directly what paint you’re using and how much. I’ve painted for many years but never learned how to paint people and my instructors never taught that. So very helpful and appreciated..
It appears to me that she is left handed.

Thank you for going at a moderate speed. When I watch other videos about painting they go so fast it fails to deliver the lesson! Thank you!
I love ur approach to figures. I learned a lot today! The umbrellas, tho’ look like hats. Maybe tilt them a little bit.
Nice to see left handed painter 🎨
