I learned so much from this video. Thanks to Gia, I made a few quick fixes, like angling my computer screen and adjusting the little clip on light i'd bought some weeks ago. I feel so much more confident. Thank you, Gia!
What I love most about this video is that you mention all these tips are for YOU (the user) to feel more comfortable and confident. Not whoever is on Zoom with you. That you're beautiful the way you are, but if you want to change things up to feel better, go for it. And if anyone is judging, they're a d*#k. That was awesome. Thank you!
Oh I'm so glad it resonated with ou Cilla! It's so true though. We spend so much time thinking about what others think that we forget to ask ourselves more about it. It's a daily meditation but one I think is so worth doing. I strive to one day be totally free from caring about other's opinions and whether or not that will actually happen, I think it's a worth-while pursuit. ✨
Gia is such a delight and so adorbs! I'm a pro-photographer, as well. Gia really knows her stuff and is a really concise, fun teacher. And so beautiful.
Thank you very much for making this video. I didn't need Zoom for quarantine... I need it now in 2023 because I'm looking for new employment and I am not receiving email from potential employers, I'm getting texts advising that my application has been selected in their short picks and they want to set up a Zoom interview. All I can to think is YIKES!!!! 😬. This video has helped immensely! I opened it up and did NOT like what I saw!!! I'm not much for being in front of a camera and realized that I need some makeup (which I haven't really needed for the past 13 years because of the type of work I currently do). You helped me to figure out where to place myself in the room and adjust lighting - and to make sure that there are no distractions behind me. Thank you and God Bless you!!!
I love your attitude and delivery. You did such a great job and PACKED this video with helpful information, and no annoying "fluff". Thank you for sharing your expertise, Gia!
Wow! I have watched several other people share camera, lighting, and background tips for creating marketing videos. This video covered SO MUCH MORE in less time. Yes, it was more specific to Zoom, but that's my preferred platform so PERFECT!. Thanks, Gia! I will experiment with these especially since I have had my large window wide open for all my Zoom meetings. I will try lowering the blinds (no curtains available). FYI, in March 2021, I found a ring light with no problems! I am watching this video nearly ONE YEAR after it was created
Thanks, Gia, for a really helpful and simple quick fix to my Zoom woes. I've been meaning to get on top of this for ages. I've implemented everything you recommended and can't believe the difference. You're a lovely, confident and warm person - thank you for sharing your expertise.
Thank you so much for this: very generous of you. I've started turning off "self-view" because I can't stand the look of my own face any longer! I've also noticed I'm often distracted by all the visual, background, "noise" in peoples' images.
A year into COVID/zoom calls and I'm just seeing this but SO helpful. I've really struggled with proper lighting but your tips clear up all the mystery. Thank you!
Gia, this was a simple and fun lesson that has helped me immensely! Thank you so much! Your winning personality really shines through as well. By the end of the video, I felt as if we've been friends for ages. Subscribed!
I was just listening to a ministry message on loving yourself, unconditionally, and not picking yourself apart..seemingly opposite from this and almost didnt watch, but did mostly out of curiosity and bc Im working through health issues right now, including weight, and it helps me when i feel confident on Zoom to articulate what I feel the Lord wants me to convey. All this to say I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE that 2 min into this video, you came on SANS glamour and edited. love.love.love.
I learned SO much! Now, I might actually turn my camera on when teaching LOL. You're fantastic, Gia! Keep up the good work! (PS: You are quite a beauty, and you have a terrific smile. I found myself smiling at the screen in response, so thanks for that, too!)
I have watched several videos over the last 18 months+ that had tips for looking better on Zoom. Your videos, however, are the most personable and real. I remember your tips over any others because of this! Thank you for your caring and knowledgeable presence! ❤️
In spring 2024 I started teaching part time online, and I need to work on my Zoom presence. It’s not bad, but it’s not great. 😂. Thank you - this video hits all the keys elements that I need. You are a rock star ⭐️. Keep up the good work Gia.
Wow, thanks! Tomorrow I'm filming a video especially for teachers on zoom! I there anything in particular you have questions about or would like help with that I can add to it?
Just do your thing! I'm sure it will be great. This is not my knowledge base so any tips you can give will be appreciated. Maybe one- should we put a piece of colorful paper on the wall behind us?
Thank you for all these tips! I somehow accomplished these by accident with height, distance, leaning forward, window, etc. when I moved to a room upstairs to plug Ethernet cord because of bad WiFi and couldn’t believe the difference in how I looked on camera compared to my situation downstairs. I love hearing tips from photographers. These tips are so helpful.
I have avoided being on camera or the subject of photos forever, even avoiding looking in the mirror. That was BG - Before Gia. I volunteered to present at a zoom workshop and committed to use my video. I did as you taught, even (gasp) put on some mascara and lip goop, got out my props for the presentation and let it fly! I completely ignored myself on the screen, but myself in frame and had a great time. I even used Camo Studio for webcam! And wore glasses without glare! A trifecta of success! Someone commented afterward that my presentation would make a killer UA-cam video. Now if I can just get over the mirror thing... Thanks, Gia!
Great tips - I found that the ones making the greatest impact are audio, lighting, the angle of the camera to one's face and looking into the lens when speaking. Brilliant explanation.
I saw your video when scrolling for ways to improve zoom sound quality and came back to watch. Everything about your video makes perfect sense -- it's a pleasure to watch and think think along with you. I'll subscribe and follow all of your suggestions. Thank you !!!
Thank you so much for this video. The endless video calls have really been stressing me out as I fluctuated between washed out Oompa Loompa yellow, wearing 3 x more makeup than I ever did before and looking really exhausted. It does not help that I am 20 years older than most of my colleagues. This will really help my confidence, thanks you.
Gia, I watched your video when it first came out, nearly two years ago (unbelievable, isn't it?), and I followed every bit of your advice. Now It's late February 2022, and I'm still on Zoom at least three or four times a week... and when I compare my screen image with most everyone else's, mine is SO MUCH BETTER! I can't believe how many people just don't seem to "get" how they can easily look their best on Zoom. However, your video is closing in on 2 million views, and so at least *that many people* are presumably taking advantage of your extremely useful tips. As others have mentioned, your sunny personality shines through... shades down or not! P.S. What are you blocking from the view in your window... your car? Makes sense.
OMG hi I miss you! Thanks so much. Yeah it’s crazy I had a video blow up this weekend and it feels like a whole new world. I’m so grateful. We need a one on one soon!
I just watched this! It's April 2022! Slightly out of the pandemic...some would think but since I work from home and I'm on zoom and Microsoft teams often... this was super helpful!!!! Thank you
such great advice and I could use those tips without having to buy anything! Thanks, Gia. Love your energy, love your positive attitude, love that you're helping us love to look at ourselves.
Thank you Gia! This is my first time viewing one of your videos and it raised my confidence level and reduced by stress ten fold. As a rule I do not comment on videos because of negative trolling however, I needed to say thank you. I appreciate you explained the angles and science behind lighting in a straight forward format. It was great you focussed on utilizing items we already have access to instead of making me feel pressured to scramble to find a light ring. I have an online job interview on Monday and found this in my queue from UA-cam. I honestly did not even begin thinking about this topic but I feel God knew I needed to watch your video . I consider your video being recommended to me via UA-cam an awesome blessing. I was not remotely thinking about searching for a video on this topic but Amen - God knew what would help me out more than myself. I am amazed ....... Thank you for being part of God plan and purpose for my life. Thank you again for taking the time to format this video it truly boosted my confidence and your tips worked to improve the quality of my appearance online tremendously.
OMG!!!!! I love your energy. A lot of ppl don't get it. I am that type person, I am asked what did I have to drink, what type coffe or if I am on something. Good vibes you have and also I been wanting to get stated doing more on my PC, but feeling like it looks so bad. Thanks you are on fire. Stay safe.
Excellent video! Here's a tip for maintaining good "eye contact" during a session, if you don't actually need to see or read much on your screen. Shrink the Zoom image (to roughly the size of Post-It note) and move the image to the top center of your screen, just below the camera lens. When looking at your friend's or colleague's face, it will appear that you're maintaining eye contact, rather than glancing up and down, up and down, during the call.
I don't use zoom often so the technical went over my head. I do appreciate the whole take on eye contact. I never know where to look or as you say "glancing up and down. I will do some research and experimenting to see if I can put your suggestion to good use.
Gia, you rock. I love your fast pace, keeping it simple but value-added (hate when I have to listen to tons of words that don't add value and leave me bored!), your sincerity, sense of humor, and authenticity. I see that you have created more short videos (great idea to make them in bite-sized pieces) and cannot wait to watch more. I'm curious, do you ever have Q&As?
I love you, Gia. You are a natural educator; I'm a complete technophobe and you make it fun and easy to understand the topic. You are incredibly engaging and you're the first Tuber who's been authentic enough to explain why subscribing matters, including financial repercussions. Such a refreshing, genuine, lovely person with such a gorgeous smile. I'm a huge fan (and new subscriber, Yay!). Love from Vancouver Canada.
Thank you SO much! I was up at midnight trying to figure out how to get ready for my first ever Zoom presentation, and your tips were invaluable. Simple and to the point - perfect!! And ps my call went great and I didn't look like horror film zombie, either!
Oh yay I’m glad it helped! You know, you could totally experiment with color temperature, maybe a slightly warmer lamp might help. Even though I’m brown my mom says I sometimes look green if I haven’t been out in the sun in a while 🤣
Great info. I love the tips about putting your light source facing you, aim the camera a bit forward and lean into the frame a bit. I never knew that. Thank you for helping us to look our best on zoom! Your awesome!! 😋👍🥰
Thank you! I feel way more confident and prepared to do my first talking head video! Super easy actionable advice. I was practically pulling my hair out until i realized my lamp was raking yellow light across my face
Just the ideal information I was so long seeking. very informative and useful tips. I took notes and will apply these strategies to improve my virtual training sessions with my client. Great job Gia. Thanks so much for making me feel more at ease and confident while on virtual.
Gia that was interesting. The tips we knew but you certainly helped to click the button an bring it to the fore. Thank- you. Class of 63 is certainly looking forward their virtual reunion this weekend
Hi, Gia. You are adorable and have incredible presence on camera and a great sense of humor. Thank you for all your tips! Wish I had seen your videos a couple of years ago when I transitioned for our coaching groups to Zoom! Thanks!
Very valuable material for those getting into video meetings etc. I need my clients to check this out. You laid this out in a very nice and accessible manner. Well done. Liked and Subbed :)
Dude...WOULD THAT I had, you know, a desk, or a space in my home with, like, a desk. AND a comfortable chair. I'm doing all my Zooming from a recliner, which literally encourages ALL THE THINGS you just showed us weren't good. Oh, well....my high school students will forgive me, I'm sure. :-D It was neat to hear, though, and it confirmed the things that I *thought* were adding to the unfortunate nature of my on-camera appearance....were the problem. This was really great, and I'm going to share it with teacher colleagues who, perhaps, have more flexibility in their homes!.
@@QMJudy, it would be, but we don't have a usable kitchen table, nor any space nearby. Our house is small...and...we've got to make do with what we've got.
Oh yay! Yes it’s something that we’re not really taught. But I think once we start thinking that was it becomes way easier to find places for videos and photos that help us shine!
I loved this. It really put things in perspective. I never really thought about how it looks, but it truly matters when making a good impression! Thank you so much, Gia! You're a Gem!♥️
Hello Gia, thank you for your great tips and fabulous positivity! I wasn't sure how to fix the lighting for my night time classes, and now I will implement a few changes so that I don't look like an amateur.
I am so grateful that you have made this video - I'm preparing for a Zoom interview that is critical to my future, since I was laid off due to the virus. Thank you for mentioning all of the tough subjects that ladies are afraid to ask. Bravo....
This vid is great. I learned some great lighting and sitting tips I haven't heard elsewhere. Implementing them in the morning! Love Gia's style and content.
What recommendation do you have for those of us who wear glasses? I tried your suggestions and they are helpful, but with a light behind my computer, my glasses reflect the light. I have to wear these in order to teach my classes.
I learned so much from this video. Thanks to Gia, I made a few quick fixes, like angling my computer screen and adjusting the little clip on light i'd bought some weeks ago. I feel so much more confident. Thank you, Gia!

Thank you! I feel way more confident and prepared to do my first talking head video! Super easy actionable advice. I was practically pulling my hair out until i realized my lamp was raking yellow light across my face

Ha! Oh yeah, I found out it was a little bit loud so in the future I am planning on making sure that it doesn’t fry peoples eardrums. 🤣
@@Gia.Goodrich I jumped a foot. :)
Awesome! Thank you! How kind and generous. That really means a lot. I have a few spin off videos in the works and I'm excited to share them :)
@@Gia.Goodrich I very much look forward to your new videos!
AREE... GREAT JOB GIA!
It was neat to hear, though, and it confirmed the things that I *thought* were adding to the unfortunate nature of my on-camera appearance....were the problem. This was really great, and I'm going to share it with teacher colleagues who, perhaps, have more flexibility in their homes!.
Don't you have a kitchen table? Seems like that would be better than a recliner!
@@QMJudy, it would be, but we don't have a usable kitchen table, nor any space nearby. Our house is small...and...we've got to make do with what we've got.
Thank you so much!!! Especially with the lighting one of my biggest challenges!
Oh yay! Yes it’s something that we’re not really taught. But I think once we start thinking that was it becomes way easier to find places for videos and photos that help us shine!
Great information, quick, specific, clear and you demonstrated while you were showing and teaching. That works for me! I loved your presentation.
One of the best and most practical videos I've seen on this very current topic. Great job!
Augh!, that beep at the end hurt my ears, besides that, lovely video, thank you so much!
Thank you so much! Such great, easy, attainable adjustments!
Thanks for the great tips. I wasn't looking for anything like this, but your cheerful, friendly face and inviting manner had me stop and watch.
Thank you for your outstanding tips. I hate being in front of a camera, but with your tips I hope to overcome my discomfort!!
Thanks Gia! Getting ready for a series of Zoom interviews and these tips really helped.
Oh that is so wonderful to hear. I’m so glad it was helpful. Best of luck on your interviews I’ll send you good vibes!
Great tips, Gia. Of course, these tips are still valuable because after the pandemic, we continued to meet online😊
I am so grateful that you have made this video - I'm preparing for a Zoom interview that is critical to my future, since I was laid off due to the virus. Thank you for mentioning all of the tough subjects that ladies are afraid to ask. Bravo....
Very helpful and well communicated. I love your enthusiastic, encouraging, positive message!!
You have some great tips and I enjoyed your personality!
This vid is great. I learned some great lighting and sitting tips I haven't heard elsewhere. Implementing them in the morning! Love Gia's style and content.
Thank you so much Gia! This is invaluable information and I'm so happy that you filmed this.
Thank you Gia for passing on your knowledge- most appreciated.
What recommendation do you have for those of us who wear glasses? I tried your suggestions and they are helpful, but with a light behind my computer, my glasses reflect the light. I have to wear these in order to teach my classes.
In case you didn't find it. Here's her video on glasses.
