One thing I appreciate about Pantera over so many other bands was the talent the band had. All a group of virtuosos who show cased individual tenants in every song. From lyrical depth, to guitar playing, basslines, drum beat, and vocal range. Pantera isn't just one of the best metal bands, they are truly one of the greatest bands ever when you bring up how good they were at their craft. Unreal actually.
BTW dimebag is underrated outside of the metal community by alot of other people and guitarists. Dimebag is a legit goat in regards to guitar. Had every bit of talent the top 20 guitarists of all time had.

I was the same age Im fortunate to be from Dallas, Tx. The boys were more associated with Ft. Worth since they were from Arlington. Look at the Dallas/Ft. Worth as the Twin Cities of the Southwest. The DFW Metroplex as a whole is the 4th largest Metropolitan area in the U.S. its huge.
Anyways these guys were worshipped down here. They never really got that cocky Rock Star vibe well VP was the closest to that. I suppose Phil had his moments as well. But never Diamond Darrell aka Dimebag.
I had the fortunate encounter with him in the summer of 2003. My friends and I were trying to score some drugs. So we were asked to meet up with some guy at some random ass poolhall in Arlington, Tx. No big deal right, accept when we walk in theres the man, the myth, the legend himself Dimebag fuckin Darrell. And he was just chilling by himself. He had no entourage, he had no one with him. He was pretty wasted though, but he took the time to acknowledge us. He could tell we recognized him as most of us were wearing metal shirts. Maybe he frequented this bar so much that it was just no big deal seeing the man? Well I had listened to him since i was 5 yrs old. I loved them before i even had a clue they were from the same area as me. Which I admit as a kid made it 1,000 times cooler!
As he glances up at us we dont want to bother the man and we here this. Well what are guys waiting for? We turn around in complete shock, like is he really talking to us kids giving us the time of day? He was and then he said I know one of you guys has some Pantera shit on you. I said hell yeah I do and ran out and grabbed the first Pantera cd I saw, which was The Great Southern Trendkill. I came back in as he was signing random shit for my friends. Then he see's my cd and says alright thats what Im talking about right there my man. I tried apologizing saying we were sorry that we didnt want to bother you. That we werent expecting Dimebag Darrell to be in here. I thanked him, he gave me a pat on the back and said hellyeah and took another sip of his drank. I guess the man had a sharpie on him at all times, so he would gladly sign whatever a fan wanted.
He was a verified rock star that hit it big. He never left the area he grew up in. He was something else. I dont believe in hell, but i hope theres some special place for the pos that murdered him in the afterlife. Unfortunately there isnt but thats a debate for another day. Anyways long live Pantera they all will be forever memorialized in their music.

Lost within our plans for life
    It all seems so unreal
I'm a man cut in half in this world
    Left in my misery
    Reverend, he turned to me
Without a tear in his eyes
Nothing new for him to see
    I didn't ask him why
    I will remember
The love our souls had sworn to make
Now I watch the falling rain
All my mind can see now is your
Well, I guess you took my youth
    And gave it all away
Like the birth of a new-found joy
This love would end in rage
And when she died I couldn't cry
The pride was in my soul
    You left me incomplete
All alone as the memories now unfold
    Believe the word
    I will unlock my door
    And pass the cemetery gates
Sometimes when I'm alone I wonder aloud
    If you're watching over me
    Some place far abound
    I must reverse my life
I can't live in the past
    Then set my soul free
    Belong to me at last
    Through all those complex years
    I thought I was alone
I didn't care to look around
And make this world my own
And when she died I should've cried
    And spared myself some pain
    You left me incomplete
All alone as the memories still remain
    The way we were

And my concern is now in vain

I love how Dime can give a song so many different feels by the way he syncopates - choppy and crushing, smooth & flowing, a mixture of both. Just beautiful. And THEN, he shreds......

I love how the whole band plays... They all do their little improvs on live songs... Dime gets way into it and really throws them out there... A guitarist that plays his own shit differently every time is a guitarist... He worked on giving people a little extra... One day I hope to meet all of them in the Never...
