  • This is my Electrolux Epic 3500 SR upright vacuum (from the mid 90s) that I bought off eBay. I've always wanted an Aerus/Electrolux vacuum to add to the collection, especially one of the upright models since they are such unique vacuums to me, but I mostly wanted this model since it was the same one my aunt had some time ago (which I'm sure if she still has it today). The style of this vacuum was the first of its kind when it debuted back in the 1980s (as the Electrolux Discovery series) as being the first upright vacuum with a dual motor design to have brush roll on/off capability for cleaning bare floors. This does come with a separate attachment kit which I did buy separately from this vacuum, and when I bought it, the only thing it came with was the hose, the crevice tool, and 2 extension wands. This even comes with a unique tool called the Sidekick, which I bought separately from the attachment kit, but it's a small motorized brush roll tool that it designed for cleaning up pet hair on upholstery and carpeted stairs, and in all honesty, this is way better than some of the suction turbo tools that are sold on today's vacuums. It features a 8 amp suction motor with clean air design along with a 2 amp brush roll motor giving it a total of 10 amps, and takes Style U bags. The suction is honestly, not the best on this, the airflow is OK, and the agitation is all right, but it sure grooms the carpet pretty well. My only complaint for this vacuum is how low the suction is for a clean air based vacuum (which honestly I do have to give it a break, since this vacuum was made before vacuum technology evolved). Overall, this is a pretty cool vacuum to own, and I'm certainly happy to have this in my collection.

    My parents had the blue one because my dad use to work for them in the 90’s.
    Sadly after my mom passed in 2016, my dad and I decided to get rid of it. Thinking about it today it was a mistake, because it still ran, just needed some TLC. Maybe I’ll find another one day because I still have the tools. Those things truly are tanks.

    Made in Bristol, Virginia, I worked there in the quality department for 26 years. These will last forever with a little care and are light years better than the current Aerus crap.

    Best upright ever made. Simple to disassemble and repair with very few parts. lightweight, quiet and very powerful. I think the whole machine is only about a dozen parts. Even the hose is best. It doesn't shrink and drag around the machine when you're trying to use it. My GF has a Dyson. Pure junk.

    I absolutely love these machines! I have an Aerus Lux 6000 (essentially the same as your’s but with onboard attachments) that gets 75 CFM and 65 in of water lift from the nozzle. Great video!

    Electrolux Corporation's Discovery II Model 1500 upright debuted in April 1986. The Epic 3500 Series Model U110B was made from 1995-98. It was the full trim version to the limited trim Epic 2500 Series Model U112B. The differences were the motor amps (10 & 9) and the power cord length (35' & 30'). Sadly, neither could outperform the contemporaneous Kirby G4 or the Hoover Encore Supreme U4263-930.

    Thank you for this video, which was very helpful in familiarizing myself with the vacuum. I have an Electrolux SR 3500, but what I am unable to locate the reset button to reset the roller on my version of the vacuum. I don't see one on the front as demonstrated in this video. Wondering if anyone is able to address my question regarding this? Thank you.

      Either it's broken off somewhere down under the hood of the vacuum, or whoever repaired it, probably (for whatever reason) bypassed it.

    I have the same model. I got it from ebay in what appeared to be great condition. It seemed to do ok on high pile carpet. It doesn't pick up well on shorter carpets or bare floor. Is that normal? even so it still doesn't seem to be performing to standard. what things should I check?

    • @graysonsvacsandmowers5426
      @graysonsvacsandmowers5426  Рік тому

      I'm guessing I would check the condition of the brush roll, and if the bristles are super worn down, then I would replace it, but it seems weird that it performs good on high pile carpet, but now low pile.

      @@joyevans8454 Glad you got it working again, and just a little note, the signs of when you need to replace the belt on this, is when it makes a loud continuous clunking or rattling noise that sounds completely out of the ordinary, that would usually be a sign of a worn out cog on the original belt.

      Does yours have provisions for one or did it fall off overtime? If so, they do still make replacements, which I'll probably have to buy one myself since this one is slightly loose.
