My 2005 blew up changed oil every 20 to 30 hours I bought the machine new but I did got alot of hours out of it for being pretty much a race engine it was piped, jets K&N GYRT intake and different ignition box too
Yamaha #1. Try Mobil1 4T racing 10w40 full synthetic engine oil ! Great stuff. Priced like Yamalube but less than motul or amsoil. Good for 30hrs easy. Don't run cheap oil you will need rebuild ur engine much, much sooner. I previously used Maxima full synthetic 10w40 oil but it's very expensive..harder to get..not better than the Mobil1 4T racing motorcycle oil. Maxima does sell pre-oiled air filters cheap I highly recommend. Keep riding!
When you did the oil pump could you trun it by hand because I'm doing the up grade for my 06 the old oil pump you can trun by hand and the new pump feels more stiff to trun by hand
Informative video. Im new to quads. The stuff I have learned looking things up on UA-cam and how to's. I have a 2006 yfz 450 special edition and just took my engine side case off in order to send it to J&T for the oil mod. How hard is it to install the newer oil pump? J&T told me they will send me a new oil pump.
@@mechanicsantics3575 Thank you! Mailed my side case to j&t today. Side question: when i took my side case off, my gasket was greenish looking color. Does it mean the engine was disturbed because the gasket is not black like the one in your video?
Thats terrible! Hope you got it fixed properly. Can't beat the YFZ450s. Other than this issue in early yr YFZs ..they are bulletproof. I have a '10 YFZ450 it mint an been outstanding! Run Mobil 1 4T racing 10w40 full synthetic engine oil after break in . Great oil at Great price! Use OEM filters always.
Great question that I did not address in that video. The seal goes the opposite way I thought it should, this caused me a lot of grief because I wondered if it may have been a installation error but it’s not. I have since verified on several other stock cases. The lip faces the crank itself, which would cause a situation where the seal could leak by there. I considered flipping it but left it as Yamaha did. This still annoys me and makes me wonder why it’s built like that.
Is tha's easy way to change crankshaft gasket with out take the piston and all engine apart?..i have i leak the i can't tell where is coming from. Is leaking only went is running. If you have any idea,pls let me know. Thanks
Could you help me out, I overfilled my tank a few days ago , figured it had all leaked out due to the crank inlet hose seal leaking. Repaired it and put oil in the crank, went for a ride and oil started to spew out out into the air filter box. Drained some oil out and I checked the crank . It seemes like theres no oil going into the crank. I removed the inlet hose to the crank and theres plenty of oil flowing threw that hose in the off position . Would you know why I'm not seeing any oil in crankcase. I run it for a bit at idle . Turn it off. Let it cool down, and I dont see any oil in the after sitting for a while.
I did use a service from J&T products but was not happy with the work quality. I just decided to go with a new factory cover from the 07 model. It comes already machined perfectly to accept the spray nozzle.

The pump is not hard to install but does require removal of the clutch. I will be covering that portion in a video shortly.

A green gasket is not a Yamaha part so it’s definitely been apart before.
I've got an 05 that came with a fresh big bore kit. It blew up at 2.8 hours and didn't have this mod

The lip seal on the case that goes over the end of crankshaft with the snap ring and washer, which way is it installed? Thank you great video

Which gasket?
Easy way to find oil leak is cleaning engine let it run start searching and the crankcase is usually seal with yamabond and not a gasket

Sorry, I’m having a hard time following what the issue is. Did you check the strainer on the hose going into the oil tank?
