Yes I had that done to my 2005. But the company that I had to do it sent me a high flow Oil pump as well and machined the inside of the side case for a better oil flow. Absolutly excellent work. Forgot who did it though but is definitely a must do recall delete for your bike
I'm seeing so many people saying "well I've had mine for years and it still works, you don't need this" They have been lucky so far. If it didn't need it then yamaha wouldn't of changed it!! It's obviously a problem. Fix it and ride on... Simple enough.
Martin Kruger yes the oil upgrade is needed yamaha new they had an issue that's y in 07 they changed their oil system because of a lot of crank failures if u have that much done to ur motor protect it n get this upgrade it's cheap compared to a rebuild n it's simple to do jus make sure u have a torque wrench
I have a 06 yfz with hotcams, hmf pipe, porting and high comp piston and it does not have this mod done to it but if been riding it for a year and there is no oil or smoking problems. Maybe this mod is not needed ??
Another thing to consider. Many people buy expensive parts, and buy cheap oil. Consider Schaeffer racing oil, Maxima, Motul, Synthetic race oil. Don't use manufacturer's oil. If you use yamalube....you'll end up buying, yamaparts. And You'll be Yamaha's favorite customer. Same with Honda oil and so forth. Good oil is expensive, parts are....expensiver!
This upgrade doesnt have to be done. Ive had my 450 since 04 and Its never had the upgrade. I even raced GNCC for a couple years and never had one issue caused from the 04 oil system. Ive talked to pro race teams from the gncc and they all agreed. Keeping your oil changed on a regular basis and making sure Its never low on oil and you shouldnt have any trouble. Also do not run cheap oil. Ive ran high compression top ends and Ive had the motors screaming for Long periods of time and Its always ran like a champ.
Race quads that get shaken around a lot tend to not need it as much but regular trail riders and flat land riders need this update done. I have had to rebuild almost 60 yfz's do to lack of oil to the wrist pin. This upgrade keeps a steady squirt of oil on the wrist pin and prevents failure. There is only 1/10th of a quart in the actual motor when running and that much oil isn't enuff to keep everything lubricated without some major splashing from track style conditions.
I agree. The upgrade doesn't "need" to be done if the quad has its oil changed after every ride and you are not riding on a freeway for a long time. With that being said, my cousin had this issue about 10 minutes after an oil change and my brother had this after about 15 minutes of smooth terrain (he was going about 70 mph). I have an 05 yfz450 and mine has never had the issue but I am riding hard and the bumps cause no problem with lubricating the motor. I recently sent it to JT to have the upgrade just because of others bad experience as an insurance. I also have 2 other quads to ride during my 3 weeks without the 450.
yea it will fit perfectly.the company that did the upgrade on my quad sent me the 07 oil pump. there isn't really much differance between all year YFZ motors they are almost all the same just newer year quads have upgraded parts.
my squitter nozel comes out, it has a little ruber ring around it and it come off real easy, infact i blew some air in the hole to get rif of any obstrucions and it fell out, doesnt require much effort, i think it presses on top of the hole when you bolt on everything
it is better to be safe then sorry.just because nothing has happened yet doesn't mean it can't happen. i recommend to all owners of 04-06 YFZ's to get this upgrade done to there quad even if they are having no problems with there quad.

sounds like your cam chain adjuster is either stuck in or broke remove it and see if you can push the plunger in by hand.if you can then it is bad and needs to be replaced.you may also have bad timeing chain guides, but check the adjuster first.
most dealers or shops can order the parts they are a little expencive that way but again it is a small investment compaired to what it could cost if your motor died from lack of lubrication.

thx for the info just got mine done by same company have a question for you thow do you still have this quad and it doin good? if so what oil do you use thx devin
It took your company a week to get that done because if you say they orderd you a oem yamaha part all those Yamaha parts come straight from japan so thats why it took a week. They were waiting for the part. It prob took them a day to drill the hole prob less.
Yes u can get a 07 case with the oil squirter already on it but then u wud have to buy the high flow oil pump an the gasket for when u put it back together an it's actually more expensive that way an if u don't buy the high flow pump n jus put a 07 case on u will actually lose oil pressure cus of the extra hole the oil has to travel through so jus do it right n send ur case to j&t it's 200$ the machine ur case n put the squirter nosle on it n send it back with a new gasket n new 07 high flow oil pump
some damage is easyer to fix then the catastrophic engine failures i have seen on many 04-06 YFZ's i have worked on that don't have this upgrade.1 motor i worked on was so bad the only thing that could be saved was the clutch basket, stator assembly, and carb just about everything else was destroyed even the oil res.
i could have bad chain guides, but i dont think they would make the chain skip, maybe it could i dont know.. all i know is its jumping its timing, i was driving it when i first bought it and it was bogging and kickin in, i took it apart and the timing was off 8 teeth ...

@BWRProductions i personally think is is a high priority upgrade on all 04-06 YFZ's.i saw 5 totally blown motors last summer and 1 seized piston all because of the lack of oil.
@@mainebassin8176 I was just thinking about buying a 2004 YFZ 450. A guy on craigslist has one listed supposedly low hours. Cosmetically in great condition. Should I stay away from yfz 450s?
you already have an oil pump in your quad the 2007 oil pump is a higher flow oil pump putting oil threw your quad at a higher rate then the stock 04-06 oil pumps.with the 07 oil pump you will get better oil flow and lubrication to the parts that need it.with the 07 side case you will need the higher flow oil pump to give a good squirt of oil to the needed parts in your motor.
Yes, but they try and hide it and act like it doesn't exist so they could avoid a recall. Go to your nearest yamaha dealership and ask anybody there about an oil problem with the rod, and they'll say they've never heard of it and that it doesn't exist. Even if they actually do, they definitely can't admit it on the job.
ouch that sucks i hope you got it fixed.i know how sucky it is when your quad is down mine is in the basement right now in pieces but it is not broken.i tore it apart to do some vids, lol.
Is this and Issue that also plagues the YZF 450 Dirt Bike's as well?? coz I just bought a 2006 with wacked out top end that I'm about to rebuild during my downtime at work in my shop.
i change my oil every 2-3 rides just to be safe. poor oiling system can be seen if you don't have the oil upgrade on your quad by looking at the side case for the oil nozzel i point out in this vid
@MoparAmericanMuscle yes it does that is why i recommend them to anyone that doesn't have this upgrade.they use the exact schematics that Yamaha has used on all there 07 and newer YFZ's
How necessary do you find this? I bought an 04 and I have a lot of questions about it. I know it doesn't have this mod done to it but it has a 13:1 piston and lots of goodies. Anyways I'm gonna send a PM about all that stuff. Btw what year is your Yfz?
Question, I just drained my oil in my 2010 yz 450f and put in the 1 quart that it’s supposed to have (from what the owners manual says). I notice that when I start the bike, the oil goes to the top of the sightglass and starts bubbling a little bit. Looks like air bubbles floating to the top. Do I have too much oil!? Need help!
ok i have a 06 yfz 450 and im goin to check this out tomorrow... i got something to run by you, my timing chain is skipping i got a new chain today and replaced it and it better but still jumps, do i need a shorter chain or new cams what do u think..?
the only way to tell is to do a tear down and check everything make sure all parts are within specs.i have posted a link in my Valves videos to where you can download the service manual for the YFZ450's.the manual is directed more twards the 04-06 models but it will work for general info on just about all model YFZ's.
@MoparAmericanMuscle there is a link in the description bar under the video to a really great place to get the oil upgrade done.the do all the machine work on your side cover and give you the 07 upgrade parts you need along with a brand new gasket.
so if I buy an 04-06 model now and the quad is in great shape does it mean it's ok, after 6-8 years if there was something wrong motor will go bad by now right?
Im about to buy an 06 in a few days and this has got me thinking but based on the research ive done. This issue is basically based on how often you do an oil change and what kind of oil you use. Never the less it is still something that can occur but you lower the chances if you service your bike at least every 10 hours of use and you use top self products
i am looking at a 2004 yfz that says it has a 2007 stroker crank.does this have anything to do with the oil job u were talking about?thank you for your answer.
hi there i just wanted to ask if you know if the 07 yfz450 has any problems that need to be fixed?? like battery or the oil mod or other things please respond.
sry where is U.A.E.? i wouldn't trust a normal garage to do the work to put the nozzel into the side case because it requires really good machining skills. i have only found about 3 companys that can do this upgrade and only 1 stands by the work they do. onother option you could look into is trying to find a 2007 side case and just go out and buy a 2007 oil pump and put it on your quad but it may cost more then what the upgrade will cost.
You asked a year ago, so you may not see this, but YES, I had to replace EVERYTHING due to the damage on my 06. Cost $$$. Did the J&T upgrade, no problems since :)
unfortunatly that will not help because the oil system on the YFZ balances out between the engine and resiviour that is why you check to make sure you have the right amount of oil in the resiviour and not in the engine. also if the engine did manage to get more oil in it then Yamaha's design would allow it could cause high oil pressure in the engine and posable damage rubber seals.
@vicrsx i have seen the cheap and you get exactly what you pay for that way.this upgrade requires machineing the case cover to make a new port threw the cover for the oil to flow and without proper skill and knowledge you could seriously damage the case or even effect the proper flow of oil to your quad. i recomend having this done properly cuz if you mess up it could cost $200-$2000 to repair a poorly done job.
@356yamaha you would have to buy the side cover plus the 07 oil pump which just as @freeridinguy said it would cost you alot more then just doing the upgrade to get the exact same outcome.
yea my quad works just like it did befor just now the wrist pin abd connection rod are getting squirted with a constant stream of oil unlike befor when i didn't have the upgrade it relied on oil being splashed up onto the pin and connecting rod.
Quads and bikes are different. This is not a necessary upgrade for a bike. I have yz450f mx and wr450f supermoto without oil squirter mod and it's perfect.
@356yamaha yes you can just put an 07 side cover on but then you would still need to buy the 07 oil pump and total cost of those parts is more then sending it to the guys in the video description and having them do the upgrade.
hey there have a question..is it possible a 06 could have this upgrade stock? i just pulled my 06 apart n theres a nozzle sticking out...i have pics if u wouldent mind taking a look at...my theory is my quad was made late 06 so the slapped it on..but confirmed it in the 07...hit me up please im very interested in this... thank you
Are the engine cases the same from 04-06 because I am going to buy an engine case for my 04 since the engine case broke, but the engine case is for an 06
i was just turning the motor over with the socket without the tensioner on the bike and it was skipping, i just put some pressure on the chain guide with my finger, it shouldnt be doing that right
So this is the reason ive been told that '06 and earlier engines get blown.......thanks bro

the only way to tell is to do a tear down and check everything make sure all parts are within specs.i have posted a link in my Valves videos to where you can download the service manual for the YFZ450's.the manual is directed more twards the 04-06 models but it will work for general info on just about all model YFZ's.
Hello, What`s the inconvenient of putting only the nozzle without the 07 oil pump?
@MoparAmericanMuscle there is a link in the description bar under the video to a really great place to get the oil upgrade done.the do all the machine work on your side cover and give you the 07 upgrade parts you need along with a brand new gasket.
SHOULD YOU DRAIN ALL THE OIL OUT OF THE ENGINE BEFORE REMOVING THE CASING?
Gang Gang yea so u put fresh oil in it when you put the mod.in .....or clean a mess up lol
so if I buy an 04-06 model now and the quad is in great shape does it mean it's ok, after 6-8 years if there was something wrong motor will go bad by now right?
Luba Henderson six years later... hows the motor ?
Angel Acedo I have an 06 motor still works fine
Im about to buy an 06 in a few days and this has got me thinking but based on the research ive done. This issue is basically based on how often you do an oil change and what kind of oil you use. Never the less it is still something that can occur but you lower the chances if you service your bike at least every 10 hours of use and you use top self products
i am looking at a 2004 yfz that says it has a 2007 stroker crank.does this have anything to do with the oil job u were talking about?thank you for your answer.
@Tooextrememx But what about the Limited edition 50th anniversary yfz450. would that have this upgrade or was it just later in the year.
hi there i just wanted to ask if you know if the 07 yfz450 has any problems that need to be fixed?? like battery or the oil mod or other things please respond.
sry where is U.A.E.?
i wouldn't trust a normal garage to do the work to put the nozzel into the side case because it requires really good machining skills.
i have only found about 3 companys that can do this upgrade and only 1 stands by the work they do.
onother option you could look into is trying to find a 2007 side case and just go out and buy a 2007 oil pump and put it on your quad but it may cost more then what the upgrade will cost.
Well if you do get that upgrade will it be good for a long time?
no problem glad to help.
@Tooextrememx okay thanks and it comes with the high pressure oil pump?
Good info
yes you need the side case with the nozzel.
Should I really spend money on doing this is it worth it I usually just go up hills and straight aways and trails . Let me know!!
You asked a year ago, so you may not see this, but YES, I had to replace EVERYTHING due to the damage on my 06. Cost $$$. Did the J&T upgrade, no problems since :)
i bought dirtbike with blown crankcase, con rod flew out from the engine and took half of barrel with it. now i know why.
Does this happend to all the 2004 - 2006 yfz's ? Please awnser as soon as possible
@Mrguitarmaster18 everyone that i know that has gotten the upgrade done have never had any issues afterwards.
How much did i cost to get shiped and upgraded?
Ryan Kahl 250
the timing chain tensioner? is that what u mean by the adjuster. and whats the plunger...
Are they still doing the oil mods????? in 2022??? site looks a bit outdated :/
I had them do one on a motor I built a year ago
unfortunatly that will not help because the oil system on the YFZ balances out between the engine and resiviour that is why you check to make sure you have the right amount of oil in the resiviour and not in the engine.
also if the engine did manage to get more oil in it then Yamaha's design would allow it could cause high oil pressure in the engine and posable damage rubber seals.
How much did it cost?
Quads and bikes are different. This is not a necessary upgrade for a bike. I have yz450f mx and wr450f supermoto without oil squirter mod and it's perfect.
@356yamaha yes you can just put an 07 side cover on but then you would still need to buy the 07 oil pump and total cost of those parts is more then sending it to the guys in the video description and having them do the upgrade.
hey there have a question..is it possible a 06 could have this upgrade stock? i just pulled my 06 apart n theres a nozzle sticking out...i have pics if u wouldent mind taking a look at...my theory is my quad was made late 06 so the slapped it on..but confirmed it in the 07...hit me up please im very interested in this...
thank you
what if you get the "upgrade" done but it's too late and there is some damage done already that u can't see?
Are the engine cases the same from 04-06 because I am going to buy an engine case for my 04 since the engine case broke, but the engine case is for an 06
i was just turning the motor over with the socket without the tensioner on the bike and it was skipping, i just put some pressure on the chain guide with my finger, it shouldnt be doing that right
