Fun fact. The instrument nurse at the operating theater counts every single thing that is used during the operation before and after to make sure nothing gets left inside the patient. And if shit still happens even the bandages used at the theater have a metal string that lights up on an x-ray, so it is easy to check.

@@grantflippin7808 It's not supposed to happen and it does BUT it is quite rare considering the vast number they are performed each day. With those numbers (globally some 300++ million MAJOR surgeries each year so smaller are not even included in that number), we can easily say they are a non-issue. If someone fears that, i don't know how they can deal with the more common causes of death like just being at home!

Yooo that last clip was mine 🤣 btw, the air filter was already split - that’s how bad of condition it was in, and the customer denied the replacement. Bedazzled CLA250 came in for a brake inspection because the fronts were completely gone, almost ate all the way through the pads. Also had 4 bald tires, brake fluid was essentially rusty metal, among other things, all of which were denied other than the brakes because she had none… hence my frustration with this one lol

The filter isn't dirty, so the last mechanic and/or you split it on purpose to make another $40? No wonder she doesn't want to pay lol.
Could be worse. The last "expert" franchise mechanic I went to crossthreaded a few of my lug nuts as a present, after hearing that I didn't want a $1600 set of tires in order to finish the oil change I asked them for.

    • @JHANKSMEDIA
      @JHANKSMEDIA 3 місяці тому +7

@@capsulate8642 lol it definitely was dirty, but that’s besides the point. But properly checking an air filter means taking it out and checking the actual FILTERING side where air is flowing in. Even if the engine side of the filter looks clean, doesn’t mean the other side isn’t dirty or clogged. But in this case, I didn’t tear the filter. It was so degraded already that it was already torn, and it came out in two pieces while attempting to remove the filter to check it. Most techs, including me, get paid flat rate. That would be, at most, probably 0.2 hrs. Not even $5 I’d get paid. So no, it wouldn’t even be worth ripping the filter in half myself to try to sell her a filter. Regardless, if the filter is torn like that, there’s a good chance of large particulates getting right through that opening and the filter is deemed useless.

As far as finding a good mechanic goes, I've noticed the more "reputable places", the big brand garages are the worst, dealership garages are the absolute worst, I've had one dealership try to scam me into buying a 1,500$ exhaust for absolutely no reason.
Then there are the small garages, there's one that looked up a cheap differential for me, bought it, swapped it for me, and charged me almost no extra, to the point where I wonder if they even made a profit.

@@bryancline8893 There is a good amount of overlap between marine and aviation. Both need to be sealed everywhere, both run on higher rpms with less focus on torque. The main difference in aviation though is that their engines are specifically made for aviation. While boat engines started off as more truck engines modified to marine use. Without the same challenges as aircraft, marine has stayed closer to trucks while aviation had to overcome things like getting cold at higher altitude, less oxygen up there, the chance of rolling and flipping over entirely.

I do 90% of my own repairs, and 100% of my own 'daily' maintenance.
right now, im fixing all the 'make it look pretty' repairs the dealership did to the 2014 4runner i bought last year.
To include a Bondo repair on the oil pan, a bondo repair to the leaky master cylinder, bondo on the main brakeline.
Four rotors that were clearly just polished to look new, and 4 new calipers that had been WELDED to the mounts.
Had to re-thread just about every bolt hole i needed to put a bolt in.
My neighbor is a retired mechanic, and one of the best compliments he can give is 'id put you to work in my shop' when it comes to owner repairs on cars.
Hes said it to me a few times.
Next challenge is going to be finding someone to rebuild my transmission and rear-diff.

All my pumps, my regulators, etc, either seized up, or burned out.
I had the option of spending almost 20k to fix a truck worth less than 10k, or trading it in.

little correction for the 4wd bearing on a 2wd car: bearings with a transmission going through them usually need the bolt from that transmission to hold the outside half to the inside one. so in this case, even with correct size, the side that you wrench or press mount will hold, but the outside part wont be hold by anything and just be teared away by the wheel

Your PSA about being careful reminds me of the time I was swapping out the front lenses on my Toyota Solara. Sometime during the process, I noticed some weird back pain, it ended up being two hyenated disc in my lower back from bending over the car and crawling in under it. I don’t know of any machine operator, Mechanic, or other skilled workers in physical labor intensive jobs that don’t have back problems, it comes with the territory.

When I got to the "verify you have the right parts" section, I remembered a story from one of my instructors while I was in college. They were working on a rear wheel drive customer vehicle and it was in need of a new knuckle. They had looked up the part and everything seemed right so they ordered it. Knuckle arrived and everything fit on, but no matter what they did, alignment was always off. Turns out the car was also available in AWD as well, and the two knuckles were very similar.
They never told us what car it was so we could keep an eye out for that specific one, but it still gave us enough to go on since everyone likes getting work done right the first time rather than a second or third time. Closest I got to that was a Toyota Tacoma prerunner that needed a sway bar end link and may or may not have needed lower ball joints, I cannot remember too well (while in the same college). If I remember right, the service information said to verify what knuckle we had if it was either over or under a certain month of production as they had simplified production to always use the 4WD knuckles on the front even on RWD only models and this one had exactly that.
note: Found the RO from the college program before I sent this, I had saved. It was lower ball joints and a sway bar end linkage (bolt had come loose and hammered the threads flat so you couldn't tighten it back on) sway bar was the last thing we were able to figure out. "clicking from dashboard on passenger side of vehicle" we couldn't replicate it while driving, but managed to replicate it in the shop when one of the other students leaned on the car and we heard the click while standing in front of it and started bouncing the car to find the source. Although my family is a GM family, that Tacoma felt pretty nice to drive.

my mom was one time at the repair to change the Brake pads because she travelled a lot in short time and the brakes felt like they are down.
the mechanic changed it and got confused because the new one didnt fit.
my mom drove a opel kadett with 1.6 liter at the time.
after changing the pads with new one again he was even more confused and asked another worker.
the other mechanic checked the old pads and the brake disc. everything was fine, it was the correct model and correct numbers on it.
after 15 minutes more helpless trying they changed the whole brake system including the Brake caliper.
my mother was at a known shop 4 month before and at the time she needed to change everything brake related including the Brake caliper, the disc and the pads.
because this known shop didnt had the caliper for a opel kadett 1.6 they used the one for an 1.4 and filed down the pads to size of an 1.4. same size as the 1.6 but 30% less mass -》thinner
my stepdad went into ragemode after hearing this.
in the end my mom got all the money back from the known shop because they fuc..d up and this shop paid the small shop mechanics full serviceprice too.
the whole family never set foot again in this "known" shop ever again.
