I see a use case for that black powder system Anton built a while back. For the uninitiated: you can pour as much powder as you like, as many balls as will fit, even leave the ram rod in there and it will fly out. Sometimes. Sometimes the gun will explode or not fire at all depending on what you put in there. Would probably be relatively doable to add the grapple into that, and a very neat change.

climbing picks climbing on eachother is just a god tier bug. i like imagining that if you slide down a rope using meat hands, the friction cooks the sausage fingers and ot gets a burned texture.

I gotta be honest, now that we have this climbing stuff, we HAVE to get some sort of gamemode/map where we gotta shoot stuff and climb at the same time.
I would love to see a version of the hook that only attaches to floors, it would be incredibly fun to bounce it off of walls to areas I couldn’t reach normally. Also I would love to have some sort of *Tomb Raider*-esque maps to use all these tools in. Perhaps something based on a Tibetan mountain temple (like Far Cry 4 areas). I imagine that setting would be a good setting for the climbing tools.
Not hard to rip the Tomb Raider 1/2/3/4/5 textures, maybe someone could use 'em for an inspired map. (Speaking of which, gonna get my hands on those for Pavlov.)
now me need either a bond villan hideout breaching scene on top of a snowy cliff, or a skyscraper breaching scene where you have to climb to the floors above you.

Maybe the grappling hooks can have a little carabiner clipped to them that you can pull off before you throw them and use those to slide down. Or maybe pressing a direction on the TouchPad while holding a section of rope could clip you on, and you could then slide down, or maybe even stay suspended on it hands-free

Doors, new guns, ai changes, and now grappling hooks as effectively a one man dev team is just insane to remember. A grappling hook? Between this, the climbing, the awareness system enemies have, and the suppressors a stealth focused mode would be cool... as far into the future as that would probably be.
Three random thoughts for the game: One: the ability to anchor to the rope, so that you don’t fall if you let go. Two: steal skeletonise’d ice picks. Three: a harness that you can put, on so you could anchor to specific points, like speed climbing points or points you can make/fix to a wall. UwU
Fun little idea, would it be possible to make a grenade launched grappling hook? The way I see it in my mind is that it looks like a regular shell you would load into a grenade launcher but instead of the rounded front there is just a little hook instead.
I suck bad time with snipers to the point that I'm better with iron sights (granted, it's hella hard to steady weapons without a VR stock anyway) so I've always preferred red dots to snipers even for long distance stuff. I do think that setting the zero distance is going to become super useful in the new map, just hope zero setting is fixed with Streamlined.

New alpha looks incredible Anton, I've taken a break for a while on VR stuff so I might have to jump back in again! Maybe in the future we could have a mountain style map where you start at the base camp and through the holds you move up the mountain paths until you hit the final hold at the summit. It would be very cool to implement with the new rope and climbing mechanics!
In ds walking pty terrain is at least interesting and challenging, here, like christmas, it seems like the challenge is how you can hold joystick up and not fall asleep.
I think it's awesome how much you're working with the mod community now. There are so many talented people that contribute so many awesome mods to this game. Also, just for this map: sosig snipers who remain stationary up on ridges/towers and scan for/shoot at you. Personally, I would have so much fun with that. I've wanted a long range T&H map for so long.
Oh yeah climbing in VR is actually weirdly terrifying. I first experienced a virtual fear of heights in Blade and Sorcery when they added climbing, and I’m sure your climbing wont be any less terrifying :)

I would say its probably better to have a tool to slide down ropes, so you have to be prepared, but also have it so you can go up vertical ones aswell.
For inspiration on how to handle rope sliding, Blade and Sorcery has it where if you hold down a certain button (which you normally use to slide your hand along sword handles and such) you'll be able to slide your hand along the rope, and if there's nothing else holding you (such as another hand) you'll slide down the rope. It's a pretty intuitive system, though I'm not certain how easy it would be to integrate here. Anyways, good luck with all this cool new stuff! Mad respect for keeping up updates this long.
It was a blast getting to playtest and help out with stuff. The grappling hooks and advanced locomotion changes look great. Can't wait to get that out into the field and figure it out. Keep up the good work, you're fantastic yourself!

idk why it made me chuckle so much that the pop up cover at the hold points were made of snow. This new map looks amazing and I can't wait to sneak around it. I don't think I'll mind the walking distance between points at all. The downtime between gunfights makes the shootouts have even more impact. Hey Anton, I think I have a fun idea. How about at the supply points, you have the option to deactivate the item purchase screen, just for that round, and have the big metal supply container open with a random group of items. It would be a batch of random items, acting as a sort of goodie bag, but it prevents you from ordering any items. Maybe set a question on top of the item spawn menu asking if you want to open the container and if they say yes, it deactivates the item spawn and opens the container, but if you say no, the item spawner becomes active, but seals the container.
Gotta say... I feel like a bit of an a-hole now. But thank you for adding in the 'simple and no-target' options Anton. That's really awesome of you man.

2 Ideas i'd love for this map would be ambushes, where sosigs jump you, and snipers, maybe with a very obvious laser sight, so its not cheap.

Technically it could still be rounded, but "act" as if it's just a cover, the same way a Sabot shell works where the cover peels away once fired.

It's only weapons without iron sights that spawn an optic (with some exceptions). So it's not exclusive to sniper rifles.
