ive been watching these devlogs for about 6 years now, wishing i could play. i recently got a vr-ready setup and this was the first game i got, and ive been having the time of my life. its crazy how this game just keeps going with updates and hasnt stopped. i just wanna say thank you and your team for creating whats in my opinion the best vr game on the market 💜
I followed the dev logs for 4-5 years before I actually played, and when I finally got a VR to do it, it instantly became one of my favorites. I don’t think any other game has quite captured my interest like this one

I can't even begin to count the amount of times I picked up a gun in take & hold, and just went "What the heck is this?!" soon followed with a "gosh dangit Anton, what do you expect me to do with this?!" Or even just "why... why would someone do this!?" Staring at a gun and being confused, repulsed, but also morbidly curious at 3AM in VR is easily my favourite pass time.
Exactly this. The thought of any VR dev thinking, "Nobody really wants manual reloading, just pushing a button and have an animation playing is fine" drives me nuts. Then the game flops, fueling the "Nobody buys VR so nobody wants it" crowd so fewer games get made. AAAARRGHHHH.
I love the idea of a sosig delivery man shipping around boxes of explosive ordinance with NO PACKING MATERIAL shaking the box and saying "hm. wonder what that is"
You're killing it, Anton. This game never gets boring with all the stuff you show off. I can go into sosig mode where I speak exclusively in sosig voicelines. It drives my girlfriend absolutely mad. Life is good.
Anton... with these NVG's you realize that the ability to kill the lights in take and hold, perhaps from one or two places, and have the sosigs start using flashlights or NVGs as well would take the gameplay to the next level. Or perhaps institution but the power's iffy so sections of the map randomly go dark. We start with a handheld flashlight and a pistol, and go from there. please give us a mode focused around this absolutely incredible implementation of NVGs that makes using them, or at least a flashlight, mandatory for us and the sosigs. the ones with suppressed weapons and lasers would be insane. I don't even mind if they can see more than just where their flashlight lands, or if their lights have some compromises for performances sake, it's just more that if they have flashlights, we have to be real careful to not let them turn around with how these work.
I love the ammo boxes. Gonna make some of the range time in the game feel that much more immersive, I can now properly manually load my rounds in my mags from a box.
So the reason biocular night vision systems exist is that intensifier tubes were, are, and likely will continue to be, very very expensive. So a biocular system in theory gives you more performance out of one tube than a monocular, and you can give twice as many out to your guys as opposed to binocular systems. Now does the theory play out? ... kinda, sorta. Personally i would much prefer a monocular system but many people use pvs 7s to this day.
having a couple hundred hours experience each with the PVS 14s and PVS7s. the 14 is a massive upgrade despite being monocular. having both eyes receiving the same image with the 7s is initially disorienting and without a lot of practice you never adapt. your depth perception is atrocious even with practice. The most common trick to seeing better is to simply close one eye. the AN-PVS 14, however, if properly adjusted, is fantastic. The best technique for the 14 is to adjust the gain and contrast so that the screen is just visible. Do this right and as long as you have moonlight or bright starlight, your open eye is almost tricked into seeing better. not *as good* as true binocular or multi-optic panoramic, but the best way to do monocoluar night vision

Props to you for the attention to detail on the ammo boxes. Very few players would notice or even care about the rounds just teleporting in and out of the box, but you went the extra mile to add it. The shaking sounds sound super nice too. I was genuinely wondering if it it was actually simulated inside the box when you first showed it off because of how good it sounds.
The amount of detail in the night vision stuff is astounding! I haven't seen too much of the WIP devlogs for them, so seeing all the different effects and details you have here is blowing my mind lol. This is by far the coolest night vision i've ever seen in a video game.
Anton, the ammo boxes are great! That said, there's a bug in take and hold where I don't think you properly bounded which weapons would spawn with an ammo box like you said in the video. I believe you said that would be for any non ordinance weapon which spawned with loose cartridges, presumably like lever action rifles and shotguns. In the two rounds of take and hold I just ran, every single weapon purchased came with an EMPTY ammo box. Handgun, SMG, LMG, Assault Rifle, etc. I mean, it's hilarious, definitely an "ANTONNNN" moment, but not intentional like that new shotgun. I see that there's an update out so maybe you aleady fixed it. If so, well done! If not, good luck sorting it out.
I was heading to bed and didn't see any notes on the patch. Thank you! I'll try it out today. Glad I got in there for the bug though, it was hilarious and I made it through 3/5 control points with the starting bolt action .338 which I had never had a reason to try before. The magic of emergent gameplay. Other things: when I paid to unlock the weapons at one blue area, it didnt unlock the weapons at the other blue area in the same round, but they were unlocked for the next round it's probably intentionally not an option to balance the boxes, but it would be snazzy if we could load magazines directly from the boxes. that said, it's not realistic, so probably best to leave it as is.
what a wondeful game you have made anton, please keep updating because this is by far my most played vr game the amount of detail and love that has been put in this game is truly incredible
Hey Anton that Wasp shotgun is pretty neat, but i found it odd you mentioned you found the design from some artist, but didnt namedrop them? Would be nice if they were credited so we could go check out their other stuff. On a different note, the ammo boxes are rad. Love what you did with the autogeneration system for them
That section of the ammo boxes was hilarious, you could probably do stand up comedy with enough caffeine. [obligatory type 11 lmg and C8 Canadian carbine request because I can’t think of a witty way to tie it into the rest of the comment]
Genuinely genius minds are behind this program, this is like a fucking US Government order for firearms (and apparently NGVs) education because if not I don’t know what else could match up to that crazy quality of work. Ooh, I might actually be able to start learning limited ammo, these boxes are going to be liberating, more gameplay scenarios will benefit from that. PS: just out of curiosity, would it be possible to have boxes of boxes of ammo? Like a 6 pack of 1L water bottles, but ammo boxes? PPS: Recursive headsets are now a thing in H3, hypothetical night level, you go inside a building that has lights inside, lift the NVG, phone rings IRL, lift the HMD.
Ammo boxes are HUUUUUUGE. I've been waiting for this for so long. I love limited ammo runs and it always kinda bothered me having to rely on mods to get additional ammo storage capabilities. And I for one love the weird guns. Picking up a new gun I'm not familiar with is like this beautiful little memory and logic puzzle. Not only trying to remember _what_ the gun is but also how it functions. Honestly as long as it's not some kind of .22 or antique, even weird guns are still very useful if you know what you're doing. Anton you've been doing especially great work lately. It seems you've been particularly inspired and motivated and I'm happy to see you doing so well!
So, a "Halloweiner" map where you go from house to house, with your "Grenade Cauldron", and the Sosigs are dressed as members of the Expendables while handing out, Bullets, Bombs and Boomsticks instead of candy?
Anton I hope you understand you have now made it possible to find a little box of 10 pistol rounds and then add it to your current box to save inventory space That's awesome. Modders I hope you understand you have to put the RE4 ammo box textures in the game now

Once you started going through the ordnance ammo boxes I just cracked the heck up and didn't stop! The comically large thin cardboard boxes are just such a great comic touch
Anton, you ever consider distinguishing supersonic and subsonic ammo for suppressor use? A different sound effect for each, sosigs able to detect supersonic shots better, slightly less damage with subsonics, etc?
these ammo boxes look amazing. it would be cool dough to have the rpg7 rockets packaged with the warhead and motor seperatly like IRL, Valgear made a great video about how they are packaged
So, I happen to know why the AN/PVS7 was approved to replace the AN/PVS5. The PVS5 was dual-tube using second generation amplifiers. The increased cost of third gen amplifiers, the PVS7 was a significantly reduced cost over the PVS-5, and the monocular vision was justified by claiming that not all soldiers needed binocular vision to fulfill their duties.
Let's be real... finding random cursed firearms during Take and Hold is so integral to its core identity. I know people like to take it seriously, but there's always that nice factor of it having the capacity to be a little silly at _any and all_ times, practically at the flip of a coin.
Yipeeee another devlog, i really like the ammo boxes, i assume they will also be used in griller, its funny to image to find a box that has inside of it a ammo box and it would probably fit perfectly in the goofy world of h3vr

@AntonHand When you drive blackout, you have a tiny little light 2ft in front of the vehicle to show you where the road is. Its kinda hard to focus on that unless you use both eyes and having both eyes see the same exact image helps reduce distraction in the periphery
Hey, Anton. I know you probably won't get around to this comment- I am a bit late to the party -but nonetheless, I just want to say how proud I am to see this game going so far after so many years, going into different things that people only could've ever imagined could be in this game (at least before modding lmao). This, at least in my opinion, completely blows any mod I've ever seen for this game out of the water. The first time I ever got to play this was (I think) around 2017 or 2018, and seeing this game go so far off of little more than passion and determination is just incredibly heartwarming to me. Thank you so much for working on this game, I can't wait to see Contract Griller when it's done ^^👍
Hearing how there are even MORE sosig clothing has me yearning for a WeenieModel Outfit Customizer. I'd love to see this as an additional feature of Contract Griller.
Checking in again becuase Anton is probably the best VR developer in our time. So much consistently good work from this guy, he's been going full throttle for almost a decade now.
As much as I'll miss the aesthetic of storing revolvers in a clay pot filled to the brim with the appropriate ammunition, the ammo box system is going to make it so much easier to make save/loading gun ranges and vaults nicer. I'm gonna have so much fun cleaning out my modded safehouse.
Would it be possible to get these new boxes of ammo to work within Rotwieners? Like adding a button to the ammo dispensers that spawns a packed box of that specific type? It would be great for carrying large amounts of ammunition on limited ammo runs over filling every slot with mags. Also, keeping on the subject of item transportation, I think some new backpack variants would also be neat if you ever get the chance 😊 Love you guys ❤

Thanks for the new gun, I already hate it :D Some questions tho: shouldnt the sosig vector be pretty controllable because of the super-V system? Will you make some custom "ammo containers" for some of the goofy stuff (like air pellets are normally delivered in a round can, similar to caviar; The Arrows in a sausage can; the armor piercing potato chip in a Pringles can; potatoes in a potato sack etc.) I also hope we can get like an ammo box with a display for all the ammo, because I expect the ammo boxes to get very performance intensive if you have a few of them (one of the problems I got with into the radius at some point, just too much stuff in the base ^^') Anyway, awesome work as always :)
1. its a Sosig Vector, which means its broken 2. I do not control (and am not responsible for) what modders do. Due to the ammo boxes being dynamically scaled at runtime, any custom texture would stretch and look stupid on them.

I feel the 'Wasp' shotgun pistol could physically work if it used an unconventional bolt travel path, similar to the Vector; if the bolt were to travel into the pistol grip then I could see it feasibly working. It would definitely take some clever engineering to make it function though. Another fantastic update Anton, thanks!
I can totally imagine that in sosig world they are actually packing ordinance in oversized sliding cardboard boxes and delivering them like regular packages after you order them from Mayozone

Will there be sosigs that apear for harder difficulties that are able to fire automatically at the player? 🎉😮 Would be fun if a lmg or automatic weapon sosig suppression fires the player as other sosigs flank 😅
Oh! I don't know if you would be able to implement this but the NVGs actually have a very limited depth of field due to the very wide aperture. Things in the distance are in focus if you adjust them properly but things up close are blurry
The PVS-14 mounts have a rotating tab they sit on so you don't need to make it eye mountable if you added that to it cause IRL we can just rotate it to either eye without removing the mount
The ammo box might very well be the best addition to H3 this side of night vision. The figures on the ammo box (even if I have to manually convert grains and fps to grams and m/s) are going to make calculating muzzle energy a cinch, especially for the more obscure/fictional cartridges.
A bolt that travels similarly to the vectors recoil system down into the grip might work for that wasp. Charging handle right over the barrel like that atrocious .22 just to keep it a bad time.
the wasp reminds me of that one south african(?) shotgun that was essentially the same shape and size, except it was pump action with a pistol style magazine

Insane progress I can't wait. I play a lot hardcore fps games like tarkov and to my knowledge H3VR indeed has the most realistic guns and NVGs. Super cool!!

Watching you be indecisize in the item spawner reminds me - I would love a 'surprise me' button in the item spawner to get a random weapon and it's ammo
Once you started going through the ordnance ammo boxes I just cracked the heck up and didn't stop! The comically large thin cardboard boxes are just such a great comic touch
Anton, you ever consider distinguishing supersonic and subsonic ammo for suppressor use? A different sound effect for each, sosigs able to detect supersonic shots better, slightly less damage with subsonics, etc?
I am going to assume that the bolt drops down into the handle when you pull the charging handle back to pick up a new round to make the 'tism happy.

these ammo boxes look amazing. it would be cool dough to have the rpg7 rockets packaged with the warhead and motor seperatly like IRL, Valgear made a great video about how they are packaged
So, I happen to know why the AN/PVS7 was approved to replace the AN/PVS5.
The PVS5 was dual-tube using second generation amplifiers.
The increased cost of third gen amplifiers, the PVS7 was a significantly reduced cost over the PVS-5, and the monocular vision was justified by claiming that not all soldiers needed binocular vision to fulfill their duties.

Let's be real... finding random cursed firearms during Take and Hold is so integral to its core identity.
I know people like to take it seriously, but there's always that nice factor of it having the capacity to be a little silly at _any and all_ times, practically at the flip of a coin.
It's not hard to make custom characters that don't have the janky guns too, that's what I did personally

The main reason i am aware of for PVS-7's is for driving. Significantly better for driving than 14's for a lot of people

@AntonHand When you drive blackout, you have a tiny little light 2ft in front of the vehicle to show you where the road is. Its kinda hard to focus on that unless you use both eyes and having both eyes see the same exact image helps reduce distraction in the periphery
Hey, Anton. I know you probably won't get around to this comment- I am a bit late to the party -but nonetheless, I just want to say how proud I am to see this game going so far after so many years, going into different things that people only could've ever imagined could be in this game (at least before modding lmao). This, at least in my opinion, completely blows any mod I've ever seen for this game out of the water.
The first time I ever got to play this was (I think) around 2017 or 2018, and seeing this game go so far off of little more than passion and determination is just incredibly heartwarming to me.

Hearing how there are even MORE sosig clothing has me yearning for a WeenieModel Outfit Customizer. I'd love to see this as an additional feature of Contract Griller.

So much consistently good work from this guy, he's been going full throttle for almost a decade now.
As much as I'll miss the aesthetic of storing revolvers in a clay pot filled to the brim with the appropriate ammunition, the ammo box system is going to make it so much easier to make save/loading gun ranges and vaults nicer. I'm gonna have so much fun cleaning out my modded safehouse.
Would it be possible to get these new boxes of ammo to work within Rotwieners? Like adding a button to the ammo dispensers that spawns a packed box of that specific type? It would be great for carrying large amounts of ammunition on limited ammo runs over filling every slot with mags. Also, keeping on the subject of item transportation, I think some new backpack variants would also be neat if you ever get the chance 😊

Some questions tho:
shouldnt the sosig vector be pretty controllable because of the super-V system?
Will you make some custom "ammo containers" for some of the goofy stuff (like air pellets are normally delivered in a round can, similar to caviar; The Arrows in a sausage can; the armor piercing potato chip in a Pringles can; potatoes in a potato sack etc.)
I also hope we can get like an ammo box with a display for all the ammo, because I expect the ammo boxes to get very performance intensive if you have a few of them (one of the problems I got with into the radius at some point, just too much stuff in the base ^^')

1. its a Sosig Vector, which means its broken
2. I do not control (and am not responsible for) what modders do. Due to the ammo boxes being dynamically scaled at runtime, any custom texture would stretch and look stupid on them.

to 2. Sorry, maybe a misunderstanding, I wanst asking about mods, but asking if there was a plan for some silly ammo containers (as an easteregg for example) like the examples mentioned above (like the sack of coal for the grill, but instead its for potatoes)

Speaking of guns that make you scream Anton, I remember spawning with the single shot 9mm pistol, "Goddamn it Anton" I muttered.
I feel the 'Wasp' shotgun pistol could physically work if it used an unconventional bolt travel path, similar to the Vector; if the bolt were to travel into the pistol grip then I could see it feasibly working. It would definitely take some clever engineering to make it function though. Another fantastic update Anton, thanks!
I can totally imagine that in sosig world they are actually packing ordinance in oversized sliding cardboard boxes and delivering them like regular packages after you order them from Mayozone

Oh! I don't know if you would be able to implement this but the NVGs actually have a very limited depth of field due to the very wide aperture. Things in the distance are in focus if you adjust them properly but things up close are blurry

i just got h3vr recently and i love it, the first vr i bought for my first headset, sooo fun, plus turning m9a1 and m9a3's into a rifle is also fun

This year really is shaping up to be one of the best for H3. Just so many additions that COMPLETELY change the replay factor.
The PVS-14 mounts have a rotating tab they sit on so you don't need to make it eye mountable if you added that to it cause IRL we can just rotate it to either eye without removing the mount
My friend made me buy ghost of tabor, I had a total pain with the night vision in that game. This already looks sooooo much better.
Those ammo boxes are SO COOL definetly excited for those
The ammo box might very well be the best addition to H3 this side of night vision.
The figures on the ammo box (even if I have to manually convert grains and fps to grams and m/s) are going to make calculating muzzle energy a cinch, especially for the more obscure/fictional cartridges.
Actually I plan to hook up the display to a 'Units' option in the item spawner, so you'll be able to get them in metric too.

you should make RPG /motar backpacks almost like a quiver for those TNH hectic moments. maybe even full auto zip .22
A bolt that travels similarly to the vectors recoil system down into the grip might work for that wasp. Charging handle right over the barrel like that atrocious .22 just to keep it a bad time.
While anton is pulling out the wasp: "No no please no,... Yes OK yes maybe I see where you're coming from..."
I don't often play T&H with limited ammo, but definitely looking forward to playing it more often in future now with the ammo boxes!

the wasp reminds me of that one south african(?) shotgun that was essentially the same shape and size, except it was pump action with a pistol style magazine

Insane progress I can't wait. I play a lot hardcore fps games like tarkov and to my knowledge H3VR indeed has the most realistic guns and NVGs. Super cool!!

Off to go play some limited ammo take and hold now, it's my favorite but ammo management was such a chore. Can't wait to try out the ammo boxes!
