I didn't even know anything. I got an invite from a dude I knew in highschool but never talked to since. I was told it was a hero shooter so I was like eh. I'm good. Then I finally checked out it and found it was a moba, and had a blast
Valve has access to all Dota 2 mechanics that they will port them over to Deadlock. It's a gateway drug so that people who play Deadlock will become familiar with Dota mechanics and abilities that the transition is easier. Pretty much all Deadlock characters are basically just mix-and-match of Dota abilities like it's a game of ability draft. Of course, there's some unique ones that takes advantage of the shooter aspect like Grey Talon's Owl ultimate, which is basically just the Unreal Tournament Redeemer weapon, but overall the items and abilities are all Dota abilities (that people can attribute to LoL as well). But Valve has struck gold with the game, as it fully embraces both the MOBA and third-person shooter aspects, unlike other hybrid games that only takes bits and pieces of each genre without ever fully committing. It's so fun that people not a fan of one of its genres can have fun if they like the other genre. MOBA fans can appreciate its in-depth MOBA mechanics and just naturally learn to aim and move better, whereas people who are a fan of movement and aiming will greatly enjoy that and just naturally learn the macrogaming mechanics and ability usages of a MOBA.
Totally agree. I think the games focus on movement and vertical play are what make the 3rd person mechanics feel good compared to other moba shooter attempts
@@HookahOtaku ok so youre gonna dismiss me because you want to live in a world where everyone ever that insisted on disliking mobas got hooked on this moba because it really is that good and definitely isnt just dota again
Everyone also has to keep in mind that this game is a MOBA-shooter tho. I've seen many new players get turned off by the game because they either play the game like a regular hero-shooter or MOBA and get destroyed. The game isn't just that or a hybrid, It's like 2 things combined(and more)! It has so many things you need to learn just to play it but trust me. It's worth it! I have zero MOBA experience and had my butt spanked by Abrams for 20 hrs before even getting to understanding the basics but so far this is the most fun online pvp game I played since tf2 days when it's used to get updates. AND THE GAME IS STILL IN ALPHA! Great vids! Love the game! Hope everyone enjoys it too!

I am 15 hours into a game that hasn't even been announced officially yet. It is filling that hole in my heart that Super Monday Night Combat left. Also I am one of those weirdos who like Battleborne
Also worth mentioning how much variety there is in the game despite it having fewer characters than nearly every other MOBA. You can use items to focus on just a single ability in your kit or your gun or even just melee. Other mobas somewhat do this too, but it's really limited to AP vs AD, meaning you either go abilities or autos. There's also games that arbitrarily limit you into only being able to use half the items in the shop (this from the geniuses that developed Smite). The freedom to just do whatever in Deadlock is so refreshing. I started playing Melee Mirage today and absolutely crushed it and this thing works just because an ability in his kit shreds bullet (and melee) resist by a ton. Also(x2), it's really fun to see shake-ups whenever there's a patch.
Other mobas like League or Smite really handcuff your potential outside few character exceptions that can hypercarry but in VERY limited ways. All Deadlock heroes can hypercarry. Smite is really well known for overnerfing characters because the devs literally get scared of having strong Gods and look what happened to their game, Smite patch 9.5 killed Smite 70% of the player pop left in a few months after the patch, and only this year a few months ago they reverted some of the changes, but the damage was already done. people dont like to play stale ass games where you dont ever get to feed powerful. League also has a horrible balance team that nerfs in the wrong ways and make op characters stay op, but the weak characters that rarely become strong for a patch get over nerfed by the following patch. so yeah, devs with no conviction for fun.
21:11 there is infact a sprint mechanic the only difference is that its not activated by pressing a button but by not shooting at anything for 5 seconds or not taking damage for 5 seconds
Not gonna lie, was *not* expecting you to cover this game. No idea why, but this was a pleasant surprise. I'm glad this game has been getting more and more exposure to the general public over the past several months. I was very much in that same crowd of people that misunderstood what the game was upon first seeing the leaks. Wasn't even even planning on playing this game at the time, especially being an old TF2 fan, myself. Almost 400hrs into Deadlock, and I'm really glad to have been proven wrong about this game. As always, what a well edited video on your part, and a really good summarization of the game as a whole. Always love seeing your take on things, honestly. (Especially your first-time experiences with TF2). That being said, I'd love to point out a few things: 1) 18:49 - All of the weapons in this game (so far) are actually projectile-based. There are no hitscan weapons in this game. The only technical exception would be Bebop's weapon, but even that has some simulated "travel time" so that it doesn't instantly do damage (and no I'm not referring to the windup time prior to shooting; there's an actual delay between when the laser appears and when it actually starts doing damage on an enemy, funny enough). It's designed this way partly to help with soul denial. Hitscan weapons for soul denial would be a nightmare to deal with, if put up against a player who has objectively faster aiming than you. That being said, I understand that this video is meant to mostly summarize both the game overall, as well as your general thoughts, so I acknowledge that you probably already know this and have to "lie"/skim over things a bit for the sake of simplification. I realize this is a very nitpicky thing to point out, but I find it fun to discuss things ofc 😄 2) I know this video is a mixture of older and much more recent gameplay footage (which you point out ofc), but something I've been seeing a lot of (that I've been guilty of, myself, when I was first starting out) is not utilizing the sliding mechanic. I did like your section touching up on the movement, but we gotta give sliding some more love, brother haha 😄. Just like wall jumping, sliding costs no stamina bars. It also allows you to spend *no ammo* while shooting. This is *insanely* useful tech, especially when chasing down enemies. I can't tell you how many times I would spam dash while chasing someone, only to then completely drop a perfectly free kill because I had to reload as well as wait for my stamina to reset. Sliding after dashing is always more cost efficient than simply spamming dash. As an example, dashing and then sliding will take you the same distance, in fairly the same travel time, as two back-to-back dashes. This is especially useful for characters like McGinnis, who only starts off with 2 stamina bars by default. We're only touching the surface here, ofc. You could do a dash-jump, slide, quickly jump again, and then finish off with another slide to travel about 45 to 50m at the cost of only 2 stamina bars. If you were to only use dashes, it would take around 4 to 5 back-to-back dashes to travel that same distance of around 45 to 50m. That's an insane stamina cost difference. So spread the word: *give sliding some more love*. It is core to the movement, and more people should make it a habit to use it after almost every dash 😄 (Also, side note, have you ever streamed this game? If not, I'd honestly love to watch. I've been having weird, non-internet relate, rubberbanding issues these latest couple of patches. I know a lot of people don't find *watching* Deadlock fun, but I'd been completely down to just watch you play while I wait for these issues to fix in the meantime)
@@jacewhite8540 Exactly. Even if the tutorial in Deadlock is more than likely placeholder, I really do think that it skims/brushes over really crucial information. We have to deal with the term "MOBA" "Multiplayer Online Battle Arena??" coined by Riot which by all rights makes no sense instead of "ARTS" or "Action RTS" which Gabe approved but it was too late since the term MOBA had already taken off.
1:18 God I wish OW2 was good. I loved OW1 and it's genuinely one of my favorite shooters for pure fun, but I just can't stand how much monetization there is now. Every time I see pictures or gameplay of it, it just makes me sad.
Stay with it I've never played a Moba and I was horrible the first 20 hours. The biggest best advice I got was stay behind you minions, master 1 character, farm if you are low in souls
The beauty about moba is a playstyle you like will work with the array of items you buy. So play around what playstyle you identify with and build and play your characters that way. Example you always lose on teamfights and confuse the shit out of you then stay back and farm and become a beast late game.
let's not forget, deadlock is doing this with alpha placeholder graphics. This shit is half finished and it's this good. Deadlock is a good video game.
>Valve exists and does nothing >Wins; competitors seethe at their existence >Valve creates a new game >Competitors implode and go bankrupt How do they do it?
*some* corrections, there are no hitscan weapons, every hero’s gun has projectile speed, which can be increased with items. The only exception is Vindicta’s 4/ult but it’s considered a spell anyway
Laning phase is not boring in Dota, its exactly like in Deadlock where you have to both last hit and deny while trying to zone out enemy, using your resources to the fulles and manipulating where your creeps stand by pulling aggro or pulling jungle creeps to the lane. It gives you even more control over how the lane looks like
Really well put together vid. summarises why I love playing the game despite being on a 15 match losing streak and getting dunked on for 11 hours straight
Small note: there is actually sprinting. It's just automatic and doesn't have a "wind down" for when you need to shoot. It helps you move around quickly without spending stamina, but you really *really* won't see it unless you buy sprint items or use Haze's invis. Look for animation changes, like when McGinnis pulls her gun up or when bebop starts pumping his arms. That's the sprint kicking in
I agree on everything here except abilities. The majority of Deadlock's individual hero abilities are straight up from DOTA 2 even down to targeting. Bebop is Meat Hook (Pudge) + Walrus Punch (Tusk) + Sticky Bomb (Techies) + Sun Ray (Phoenix) Viscous is Cold Embrace (Winter Wyvern) + Sticky Napalm (Batrider) + Torrent (Kunkka) + Rolling Thunder (Pangolier) Pocket is literally a carbon copy of Puck. The only difference is that Pocket's ult is Venomancer's old Poison Nova Ult. Deadlock's heroes have unique kits and design but the abilities themselves are just DOTA 2 abilities.
Note, all deadlock weps are projectiles, even haze bullets & bebop laser. They just move at diff speed. I think the only hitscan weapon is vindicta’s ult.
A factor sponsorship!? 252k subs? It feels like just yesterday I was watching your TF2 will never die video and you were just launching a discord for a few hundred subs.
I really like the roster mechanic tbh. When I want to play Viscous with high priority I basically always get him. But maybe that's my region. And I assume it'll get better with more players? But it also means that sometimes you'll get someone else which feels like a nice surprise
ive only played deadlocks tutorial and nothing else like a few months ago and had a better and more wholesome time in the tutorial than any other recent multiplayer hero shooter that ive played
Valve is the eldritch god of gaming, it takes a 10,000 year sleep and when it awakes it just blows ever other game out of the water without needing to try
A lot of the concepts that are super cool come directly from Dota. In fact, the lead developer is Ice Frog, the guy who made the original Dota and Dota 2
As someone who cares neither about Hero Shooters nor about MOBAs, I still want it to succeed and become the new "Big Thing" in those niches. Mainly so there is something to finally break the monopoly Overwatch has on the Rule 34 stuff.
im already at 114 Hours playing Deadlock, this game insanely good and addicting. Usually, i cant play moba for too long cz its exhausting but Deadlock hits different.
even if you say there isn't a "class system" I still very much categorize each character into classes based off their kit. Any character that has a cc on both skill AND ult and initates is a tank, any close range self-sustain in base kit is brusier, main dps, assassin, etc. Everything will have a class even if you don't say so because their usual playstyle will gravitate towards that playstyle described by said class. Dynamo can do lots of damage with his skills but his main playstle and role is to get into enemy team and cc all of them for your team to follow up. So each character will most definitely have their own class and role but the game doesn't say their class/role most likely due to being in development or it doesn't need to. Of course if you are talking about Map/lane roles like solo laner, jungle, or roamer then yeah those roles don't exist because each character is built to be able to fend for themselves at the very least in a lane whenever it's solo or duo.
I never played hero shooters or even many fps games, but this one hooked me in. Didn’t really feel this for a game since I played league for the first time.

This is the first video about deadlock I personally have seen, just been waitong on your take.
Honestly makes me super happy people wait for my takes on certain things

Sure Kelski, you might be enjoying Deadlock now, but you won’t even remember what Deadlock is once Sony re-releases Concord.
Concord wins yet again 😔
1:18 God I wish OW2 was good. I loved OW1 and it's genuinely one of my favorite shooters for pure fun, but I just can't stand how much monetization there is now.
Every time I see pictures or gameplay of it, it just makes me sad.
and it was taken away from us and we can never get it back.

Dude I’m so trash at this game. I’m having hard time actually enjoying it but I be watching videos on it like I’m the biggest fan
@@greatgongo3772 Definitely a big learning curve, but it’s so worth learning it!
That is totally reasonable, moba games have a steep learning curve and it also relies on your shooting skills as well.
Love the Bomberman Hero music in the background. Great video like always!
Thank you dude! Also such a goooood OST
Because of your videos I actually listened to it fully after a very long time. Thanks bro!

let's not forget, deadlock is doing this with alpha placeholder graphics. This shit is half finished and it's this good.

*I’m sold and ready for Deadlock!* ~ Great vid as always Señor Kelski
Thank you so much Daz! You're welcome (and sorry) for your new addiction lmao
@@kel_ski I've never been a fan of "MOBA" - but, TF2 and Overwatch were a different story haha
It gives you even more control over how the lane looks like
Good sir, you did not have to blend the themes of different games so well in the first two minutes of the video.. now I cant stop replaying them
Really well put together vid. summarises why I love playing the game despite being on a 15 match losing streak and getting dunked on for 11 hours straight
Core gameplay loop is already addicting and we don't even have a ranked mode yet
New vid this soon and hopefully everything is going better now
Thank you so much Ma1ccel 🙏
Small note: there is actually sprinting. It's just automatic and doesn't have a "wind down" for when you need to shoot. It helps you move around quickly without spending stamina, but you really *really* won't see it unless you buy sprint items or use Haze's invis. Look for animation changes, like when McGinnis pulls her gun up or when bebop starts pumping his arms. That's the sprint kicking in
You can also see your speed at the left side of the screen increase when you run for more than 5 seconds or more
Ahh, a fellow member of the Church of Ivy
Also missed opportunity to do an Ultrakill joke when talking about the stamina bar xd
TWO Incredibles reference in one video? You're spoiling me man 😂😂😂😂
I count 3
But I bet I'm wrong and it's even more
@@sumofalln00bs10 idk, I just saw the two 😂
I agree on everything here except abilities. The majority of Deadlock's individual hero abilities are straight up from DOTA 2 even down to targeting.
Bebop is Meat Hook (Pudge) + Walrus Punch (Tusk) + Sticky Bomb (Techies) + Sun Ray (Phoenix)
Viscous is Cold Embrace (Winter Wyvern) + Sticky Napalm (Batrider) + Torrent (Kunkka) + Rolling Thunder (Pangolier)
Pocket is literally a carbon copy of Puck. The only difference is that Pocket's ult is Venomancer's old Poison Nova Ult.
Deadlock's heroes have unique kits and design but the abilities themselves are just DOTA 2 abilities.
I would like a part two
That lash sequence squeezed a like out of me. Nice work!
Absolute banger of a video. I want more of this
8/10 needs more dancing Ivy
Note, all deadlock weps are projectiles, even haze bullets & bebop laser. They just move at diff speed. I think the only hitscan weapon is vindicta’s ult.
tbh I didn't like the game at first but if my boi kelski loved it then I am all in

A factor sponsorship!? 252k subs? It feels like just yesterday I was watching your TF2 will never die video and you were just launching a discord for a few hundred subs.
Dude things have gotten so so crazy. Still hard to believe haha. Thanks for being here in the early channel days :)
Being stoned and playing seven is one of the most exhilarating experiences of my 20s
Rezero has my brain-rotted so much I jumped at 10:49
A lot of the concepts that are super cool come directly from Dota. In fact, the lead developer is Ice Frog, the guy who made the original Dota and Dota 2
26:45 was that the greatest outplay of the century or an accident .
I CAN'T TELL
As someone who cares neither about Hero Shooters nor about MOBAs, I still want it to succeed and become the new "Big Thing" in those niches.
Mainly so there is something to finally break the monopoly Overwatch has on the Rule 34 stuff.
im already at 114 Hours playing Deadlock, this game insanely good and addicting. Usually, i cant play moba for too long cz its exhausting but Deadlock hits different.
Yes pleaaaase do more deadlock videos ., this is so entertaining ✨
Using HotS as an example of stun locking is wild when DotA is right there...
Your upload schedule is... improving. Very good Mr. Kelski
even if you say there isn't a "class system" I still very much categorize each character into classes based off their kit.
Wanna know why we don't have Half life 3 yet? because you only need 2 halves to make a full.
Valves gotta show up every now and then and remind us they are the best.
11:32 THE SONG IS BAAAAAACK BABYYYYYY
Quick tip: Main Pocket and you'll ALWAYS play him. Has been my experience so far, had to actively put him on lower priority to play... McGuinnes.
I never played hero shooters or even many fps games, but this one hooked me in. Didn’t really feel this for a game since I played league for the first time.

Deadlock gave me the deodorant that 13 years of league never could.
