Thanks Dave, you were the reason I bought the model 3 last year. Financially, however, my 2023 M3 rear wheel is so much less expensive that the physical differences with the refresh doesn’t matter.
Yeah same here, I pre-ordered the new m3 but after watching out of spec detail about minor differences with current I canceled the pre-order seems like differences are more noticeable from older models in terms of cabin noise and quietness 23 was already improved lot over the previous years models.

I loved my 2023 Model 3 RWD. But at 70 it was too hard to get in and out of. So I went in last week and traded it in for a Model Y LR AWD. I think the Model 3 was more sporty driving and also I saw the refreshed M3 on the lot. Great looks and I am sure it's better car than what I had but still sits pretty low.
I got to test drive the 2024 M3 rwd last weekend and it was everything I expected it to be. If only the referral program was active or I would have ordered already. I was comfortable with the stalkless steering about halfway through the drive. I just wish it was steer by wire to match the stalkless. The sound dampening inside is much better.
This refresh Model 3 is throwing a wrench in my plans. Was looking to add a model Y to our existing 2022 model 3 LFP but now I’m torn between adding another model 3 LFP instead. 1st world problems.
My sister ordered one last Sunday... by Tuesday night I was ordering mine. As the younger sibling/brother I feel like it only makes sense that I do what my big sister does 😅. Hers is Blue, mine is Stealth Grey. We will both be first time Tesla and EV owners, however I have driven a bit over 1300 miles in a Model Y all around Iceland during a trip last September. Hey Dave, so I had a stroke when I was 42 years old (now, I’m 69). It affected my right side with the resulting loss of my right hand. We bought a Tesla Model 3 Perf. in 2021 and we just love that car. With lack of steering stalks and shifting on the screen on the new Model 3, I have to reach way over with my left hand to shift the car through the screen. Is there a way to shift without reaching my left hand so far? Perhaps through a software feature? Btw, we like your UA-cam videos. Please tell Kyle he’s very knowledgeable with regard to electric automobile infrastructure. We view him all the time. Cheers!
Thanks for your note. Sorry to hear about your situation with limited mobility. Keep an eye out for a mod from the SEXY buttons guys for stalks. Could be just what you need to enable you to be comfortable in this rig.
Great and honest review from experienced Tesla driver. We ordered new model 3 in Austria three weeks ago. In Austria Tax credit is slightly lower but still available. And model Y dropped Prices to,you can buy new models Y RWD for the same price as new model 3 RWD. Im happy and can’t wait to receive the Car.😊
Guys, I spent the Covid era investigating EVs, Teslas in particular. But I was a bit hesitant. Then I stumbled on your You Tube content, especially on Tesla’s. A year ago I ordered one. On June 29 last year I picked up a standard RWD in Perth Australia. And I LOVE it. Easily, at 69yo, the best car I’ve ever owned. Thank you!! And now YOU review this one! Now I’m tempted once more!!!! Please send $ in contribution!!! lol. Love your channel. Coming to Vegas and Seattle in May to see the Rolling Stones. I am going to hire a Tesla in Vegas!
If the y and the new 3 are the exact same price which one would you buy Dave? We are trying to make that decision and having a tough time. Head room in the rear might be a problem for a 5'10 person. Did you fit?
Just saw the 3 in person, and like the S I drove for a week, I still prefer stalks. I don’t like change for the sake of change. Would have also liked to have readout behind the steering wheel like the S &X in rather than the rear screen. Other wise like the refresh, definitely nice dropping the fake wood trim
I drove a RWD yesterday and I was a 2019 owner of a LR AWD and I was blown away how much better it was. I thought I had a red line with the indicators but I recon I thought about what to press maybe 3 times. I think this will be my next car as soon as the leasing costs have come down a bit.
idk if cheaper matters to him LOL. idk how you can economically switch cars every couple years! If you can, I'd like to know! Because i need a car soon but I also want to take advantage of the new stuff coming in 2025/2026
We just bought a gently used 2023 Tesla Model X Plaid identical spec to yours (except ours has the yoke) and we have a 2022 Tesla Model 3 RWD with the LFP. As nice as the Plaid X is, I'm just in love with our 'legacy' Model 3. Plenty of usable power, a really comfortable cockpit and despite the stiffer/sportier suspension it's just a really fun car to drive and I can't recommend it enough. Toss in the ability to routinely charge to 100% and it's a home run. Great video!!
0:18 I love the intro with the boat on a three-wheel trailer, it looks like the Model 3 was going to pull that monster!!! 10:37 Seems very quiet, I have a 2018 M3 and it is difficult to really have a conversation when driving at high speed. May be the road noise reduction is a combination of the all around laminated windows, new type of tires, and improved sound proofing.
I have Toyota Camry with 65k miles on it. The car is paid off. I never had an EV before and I cannot have a charger at home for I live in apartment. Is it worth to upgrade from Camry to refresh model 3?
It depends on how close a tesla super charger is to your apt. If it is not close by, or very near your daily commute , keeping it charged up will be a pain in the ass. Also it is quite a bit more expensive to charge on a super charger than it would be if you had a plug in available at your residence. So the paid off toyota would be my pick in your situation. It is just a transportation device after all…….YMMV.
@@kmf2153 Thank you for your honest reply. I have a super charger about 5-10 minutes away from home and work. I was planning to charge it during off peak hours at night after work or workout. But I understand this is still going to be inconvenient option and not cost saving at all. Most people tell me keep my current car for as long as possible since it doesn’t cost me much and the car is known for its reliability. I just like the look of new Tesla and will have to get a new car soon or later so I thought I might want to change it while my car still holds some value.
@@tigerkenshi Yea, I get it. I would love to have a Tesla model Y. But I don’t really need one, my old Honda CRV has a better use case for my needs and it is paid for also. So wants VS needs. I am going to opt to keep my Honda until the wheels fall off. $50,000 dollars is a lot of money for something you don’t really need at this time. On the other hand, when my wife’s Suby blew up, I purchased a Chevy Bolt for her and it has turned out to be an excellent commuter. Not a Tesla for sure, but she is not a computer geek and the Chevy works great for her.
You need to test drive this car. Not just one time but like 3 time. The model Y is great if you have knees or back problems. “Tesla Joy”. I’m subscribed to her channel she lives in an apartment and has had her Tesla for 5 yrs with over 50k miles. I’m sure she can help you.
I'm in the same boat as you lol. I plan to rent one of the old model 3 like a 2023 model from Hertz for an entire week and see how charging and commuting fits into my schedule. If not I’m gonna get a ICE car.
Best appliance in its class - looks quite good (best looking Tesla by far), very efficient, goes - what's not to like - just - If you are a car lover you buy more interesting cars if you can.
I drove the "Highland" last week. The heated/ventilated seats definitely make the car feel more complete than the initial version. Though the ambient lighting is unnecessary, it does help make the car feel slightly more futuristic considering the interiors of the new Mercedes EQ vehicles. The touch-screen to shift gimmick is annoying. I think it would have been better done as simple press buttons - but fortunately the buttons have a redundancy on the ceiling panel. The windshield wiper toggle and turn buttons take getting used to. The rear HVAC panel's multifunctions are OK, but I'd much prefer headrest mounted LCD panels. That would be a nice option for this car. Honestly, with Tesla, it's like taking 2 steps forward and 3 steps back. Everything they do reeks of lack of beta testing - evident by all the problems they're having with the Cybertruck now. The Model 3 and Model Y will both benefit from these improvements I think.
The 2024 Model 3 also has the auto forward or reverse you mentioned that the S and X have. It needs to be toggled on in the menu and is in beta so works most of the time. User beware. 😀 Drive controls are also available on the roof between the two sun visors. Can be used in conjunction with the screen drive controls or if the LCD screen fails, so the car can still be driven. I think you guys call them the PRNDL controls.
Great video, thanks. Tesla seem to be spending more time developing the Model 3 Performance for this refresh and so it will be interesting to see what improvements they come out with. For people who prefer a more sporty drive, the performance version is likely to be a better option, but for the majority of people the RWD and Long Range 3 with more refinement and a softer ride is a good decision I think (the firmness of the suspension was a regular complaint for the old model). I suspect that there will be more differentiation between the 'standard' models and the performance version, which would give people more choice to choose what type of driving experience they prefer.
Dave, when you were driving old model 3's did you ever have a problem with the seats? I rented one for a week about 8 months ago, and absolutely loved the base model 3 except there was something deep in the seat on the left upper thigh area that eventually was driving me to madness. MADNESS I tell you 😄 - The feeling I got was that it was a structural part of the seat and I was just a bit too hefty for the thing. However, maybe it was just a one off. Did you ever feel anything like that, or know anyone who did?
Hi Dave! Thanks for the great overview of the refreshed Model 3. Quick question: .Do you find it difficult getting in and out of the model 3 because it sits so low?
I fall in and climb out; but my high level of athleticism makes this fun. Joking aside tbh, it’s not that bad for me… Kathy much prefers the Y egress logistics and the X is so much easier for me. But once you are in, the seating posture is almost perfect
They're working on making it eligible for the rebate, just like it happened at the start of last year when it wasn't eligible. At the very least, the long range will become eligible as it doesn't use LFP.
My biggest gripes with the modern teslas are the lack of sensors which sucks for parking, highway driving, and still windshield wiping. It rains a lot in Vancouver, we simply cannot just rely on cameras. The turning stalk and putting the car in Drive is no problemos. The lack of sensors are things i cannot cope with still.
Backup sensing on 1-2 year old M3 that I rented was pretty good, and I know the latest rear view camera is great. You’ve just got to learn where that front bumper is when “nose in” parking.
great video as ever.the only thing i wish it would have is that the driver isnt able to move the passenger seat if you have someone who is unable to use the controls ,meaning a hadicaped person
Hi Dave, I am looking at getting a Tesla next year. My issue is my town house has no charging capability currently. I drive about 28 miles each way from home to work and work to home. Do you think the model 3 standard range will have enough charge for me for my current work commute. I do like Tesla and its technology and your videos are great to hear your feedback. Please let me know what your thoughts are .
Standard range is around 4 to 5 days of your commute. If you had access to a L2 charger near where you live or work, charging every 3-4 days would seem to be about right. If Superchargers are on your path, that would work too, although more expensive for (EV) fuel.
Rental companies would be less than likely to purchase stalkless cars because that would confuse renters that want to get going with familiar controls. When the Tesla charging and NACS is available on other brands, they will be chosen instead.
Do you think the suspension is better in the long range than the RWD? My ‘23 RWD was in for service and I got a ‘21 performance model 3 as a loaner. For some reason the performance was MUCH more comfortable and smoother over imperfections than my RWD. Im curious after the refresh if they made both similar over bumps
At the Tesla showroom, I see that the Tesla rep will walk out to the car with the person doing test drive, and make sure they understand how to do the shift, turn signals, and horn. The Tesla showroom was busier than usual.
Remember "80%" is not a limit. Whenever you take a trip and need full range, you can charge to 100% - just don't do it unless you absolutely need the extra. So the LR can take you quite a bit farther - on trips, again...
Thanks for mentioning S3XY stalks when mentioning the stalkless setup! Nothing annoys me more than when reviewers talk about missing things... and then fail to mention that it can be solved by aftermarket accessories (HUD/Gauges cough cough).
14:35 the alloy wheels are already scratched with those wheel covers😮. That's not good. A German youtuber also mentioned it. But otherwise a great car. But I hope Tesla fixes this wheel problem
Wait! You said it doesn’t qualify for the $7,500. So, must be you finance it through the bank then? Because it wouldn’t qualify. The $7,500 does qualify on model 3 only if you going to lease it. Only reason I said that cause that’s what I’m going to do and depending on the model in NY tax credit range from $500,$1,000,$2,000.
I own a Model 3 to have a mode of transportation if gas becomes very expensive and very scarce from this expanding middle east war so it has its place but for a person looking to save money these cars are not overall cheaper 1st thing before you buy call your insurance agent and get quote look for a 75% increase in your insurance, $1000+ for a home level 2 charger you can also see another enormous resource for Tesla to make money which is Free now updates.
In Denmark a model 3 or Y is cheaper than a Toyota Corolla due to tax on non electric cars. So there has newer been incentives for electric cars as none are needed.

They're working on making it eligible for the rebate, just like it happened at the start of last year when it wasn't eligible. At the very least, the long range will become eligible as it doesn't use LFP.
Driving-Schools in Norway will probably not buy Tesla anymore, due to their new design of the activation of Turn-signals.
With autonomy, no one will need Driving Schools!
The new refreshed Model 3 you are driving in now also puts the car into drive or reverse for you.
When the Tesla charging and NACS is available on other brands, they will be chosen instead.
thats a great point!
Felt very similar over bumps on the same road
At the Tesla showroom, I see that the Tesla rep will walk out to the car with the person doing test drive, and make sure they understand how to do the shift, turn signals, and horn. The Tesla showroom was busier than usual.
Does the 100% charge of the SR vs 80% of LR sffect the usesble mileage
Remember "80%" is not a limit. Whenever you take a trip and need full range, you can charge to 100% - just don't do it unless you absolutely need the extra. So the LR can take you quite a bit farther - on trips, again...
@FrunkensteinVonZipperneck yes I went and did some research and you can go to 💯 if you like. Good to know 👍
👍👍👍👍 Great Review Guy's
not sure what you say about the materials. how are they nicer? its the same materials as before, its still plastic, cloth and vinyl
Do the rwd an long range both ride similar then? Any1 tried both?
Dave, don’t get the refresh until the performance/ludicrous version comes out. THAT will be the M3 to get!
Thanks for mentioning S3XY stalks when mentioning the stalkless setup! Nothing annoys me more than when reviewers talk about missing things... and then fail to mention that it can be solved by aftermarket accessories (HUD/Gauges cough cough).
At additional expense
@@allendavid4139 But only for those that want it… instead of everyone, even if they don’t want it!!
I just bought the model 3 refresh RWD and I did get the 7500
Lease?
no , you cannot get the acceleration boost on m3 awd highland.
Love it!
it good to see the wife also has feedback, we need feedback from women also..
14:35 the alloy wheels are already scratched with those wheel covers😮. That's not good. A German youtuber also mentioned it. But otherwise a great car. But I hope Tesla fixes this wheel problem
The outside of the model highland looks way better than the older model 3. And it is noticeable. It looks like a baby model s.
You get both if you lease it
No tax credit really makes this a tough sell against the old one
This family buys cars more often than I buy sandwich bread.
Stealth grey that is
Thank You
I like the front of the car. Looks the roadster.
New Video Title: "Tesla people give Tesla people confidence that the new Tesla Model 3 features are good"
Dave, you really shine when you drive a Tesla. Looking forward to watching a great video on your next car, a new 2024 M3.
If Tesla decides to run TV ads, they could do something similar to what Ford did in the early-to-mid 1980s: "Have you driven a Tesla ...Lately?"
Why do I feel like this is Dave making his case to Kathy to get this car 😂
That definitely not happening Too low for her.
I own a Model 3 to have a mode of transportation if gas becomes very expensive and very scarce from this expanding middle east war so it has its place but for a person looking to save money these cars are not overall cheaper 1st thing before you buy call your insurance agent and get quote look for a 75% increase in your insurance, $1000+ for a home level 2 charger you can also see another enormous resource for Tesla to make money which is Free now updates.
love the rear end refresh, but those headlights look a bit ugly... the original Model 3 looks like a far more classic vehicle.
Gotta remember Dave. You don't drive your cars. Kyle does.
Next Dave video: I bought a Model 3.
Picking up mine next week!
The rear drive Model 3 gets the $7500 credit when you decide to lease.
True but if you wanted to buy the car at the end of the lease you cant you have to return the car to Tesla.
In Denmark a model 3 or Y is cheaper than a Toyota Corolla due to tax on non electric cars. So there has newer been incentives for electric cars as none are needed.
@@apn42 wouldn't sit well here there are people that already feel there are too many mandates for eva and getting violent towards them, the infrastructure and even owners.
I love you guys, Tesla is my dream car, planning to get model 3 used,
It qualifies for the $7500 government incentive if you lease it rather than buy it.
I think even an untrained eye would immediately see the difference
