    I have a M3 long range. Got it may 5. This is my first EV and I just did a week long road trip from Long Island to Michigan then all over Michigan and back, 2100 miles total. I found the trip an incredibly civilized way to road trip. Stopping for 15 or 20 mins or even longer at some stops is not an issue. After 2 to 3 hours driving between stops I needed to get out and stretch my legs and bathroom break and at some even close my eyes. I never felt like I was waiting for the car to finish. She always said she was ready to go before I was. So yes it seems like I got the not so great battery and paid the highest price (I have white on white and 18 inch wheels), I completely love this car and am very very happy with my Helen Wheels. The average for this trip was 227Wh/mile

    I ordered a Dual Motor with white interior on 1/11/24,got tired of waiting and settled on a RWD that was great but had a Black interior. The first day the Performance hit the market I ordered one with white interior and on 6/11 I traded in my RWD that they gave me 34.5k for and with the tax credit never looked back. Loved your video in the showroom with the Performance and your wife was EXACTELY right , the Stealth Gray w/ white interior is stunning!

    Hello Dave, please note that it has been found that charging LFP batteries to 100% even once a week actually hurts it more than previously believed. So every day could hurt it significantly. I believe Tesla is now asking that you charge the LFP pack to around 85% unless you're going on a road trip, or a long drive the next day.
    Taking that into consideration, the long range has a significantly longer range.

  • @gslongdistance

    Driving in France is an absolute joy. Charging infrastructure is excellent. I do a road trip with an iPace from London to spain 3 times a year. No worries at all.
    You don’t need an international driver license either for France.

  • @arecibo1974
    @arecibo1974 2 місяці тому

    Hi friend
    In road trip, your LFP battery will charge fast only until 80% even if is recommended to charge to 100% , then slow down just like the rest of the batteries on the other Tesla models to reach the full 270 miles.
    So either way long range is going to be a better road tripper charging fast to 80% for the same available range of 270 miles.
    Thanks for sharing your findings , like your videos 😉👍🏼 from Connecticut F150 Lightning owner.

  • @coke4274
    @coke4274 2 місяці тому

    A few things I was thinking about with the LFP vs the Long Range AWD Panasonic.
    1. LR charges faster (250kw vs 175), and because it slows down towards the end, you can reach 80% faster than the LFP can get 100%. i.e. 10% to 100% LFP versus 10% to 80%, you will get there faster with the LR.
    2. You lose regen braking above 80% SOC. That means since you're charging to 100% a lot in the LFP, you lose regen braking much more than the LR, because most of the time LR will be 80% or below.
    3. LR will have more miles available at the end of its life than the LFP has brand new. Say the battery in the LR degrades 10% after 100k miles, you still will have 307 miles at 100%. So that when you do get the heavy degradation, you can charge past 80% regularly to make up the losses and still be ahead of the LFP.
    Also, the RWD Long Range is available with up to 363 miles on the Panasonic pack. I see that as a better option than the LR AWD, although you lose the better speaker system. Right now I am considering the RWD LR and the AWD LR, and think I want to stick with the AWD being around snow during the winter.

    I have a Sep-21 LFP RWD model 3 and I've lost 6% of battery at 30,000 miles, however I follow a similar car on TeslaFi that has done 195,000 miles and has also lost 6% of battery. I recon that the LFP battery is the one to go for if you want to keep the car and do high mileage. In fact, it is only calendar aging that is degrading the battery and not the number of miles driven or number of supercharger charges you do...

    Dave, Cycle testing of LFP cells in labs results in about 3x the cycle life of NCM and NCA cells. However packs may fail due to corrosion, water intrusion, contactor failure, circuit board failure, etc. If none of those get your pack, and you don’t drive a lot of miles per year, calendar life may run out before cycle life.

  • @ThorRavnsborg
    @ThorRavnsborg 3 місяці тому

    Thanks for the videos Dave and good to know some of the things to look for when I'm picking up our new Model 3 RWD tomorrow. I live in Europe (Denmark) so our Model 3 is from the Shanghai factory. I'm not sure if that makes any difference but I think I read somewhere that Giga Shanghai is supposed to make the cars with fewest quality issues (at least at the time of writing but that was last year so things could have changed).
    Btw. we currently don't get offered the cheap financing here but I got 5.000 km of free supercharging instead and the prices have never been lower than they currently are. However, the current prices might not last since the EU has just increased tariffs on EVs from China (including Teslas from Giga Shanghai) so Model 3 prices here are expected to increase from July 1st. I know that a new car is always going to be a depreciating asset and that something better is certain to come along in the future but compared to most people who bought a Tesla in recent years I think my timing might actually be pretty good for this reason.

    While M3 Standard Range is a great car especially for its price, Long Range is a great upgrade still with 4 major changes: total range, AWD, acceleration (4.2 0-60) and premium sound system. All those are things that most people would care and pick LR even without tax benefits.

    From my understanding, the long range is better for shorter charging times. It would take much longer at a super charger to charge the RWD to 100% than the LR to charge to 80% to get the same range of miles...that's one advantage of the LR model 3.

    Agree 100% with @dbarn5324 in saying "I was going to wait and buy the 2024 but after seeing all these issues I'm glad I bought the 23." It's definitely not advisable to buy or lease any Tesla vehicles, manufactured after their recent morale-degrading mass/continuous layoffs, for a certain period of time. Oh one more thing: I test drove the 2024 M3 RWD on February 9, 2024 accompanied by a Tesla rep. Thought the POS (Not Point of Sale lol) was going to roll over when I did a quick left/right maneuver (similar to a race car warming up its tires) at only 40-ish MPH on a straight/level roadway near Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

    The range comparison between the long range 4WD and the standard range RWD basically misses the point. The 272 mile range in day to day usage is more than enough, especially if, like me, you're charging up at home. You still have the option of charging to 100% when starting out on a longer range road trip. For me, personally, the deal killer for the RWD is the Chinese batteries.

    I think you need to sell or trade the Tesla m3 if those little thing a annoy you. I wouldn’t be able to live those things. Get a Lexus or something.

    Just keep giving Tesla more of your money. Everyone else on the planet calls this "no quality control whatsoever" whether it's at the factory or at the distribution facility. Oh, NO WORRIES -- I'm sure EVERYTHING ELSE IS PERFECT. Good freaking grief. Just keep giving Tesla more of your money. "Just keep hoping that the wheels won't fall off."

    It seems like a roll if the dice when you buy a new Tesla. Some people just get lucky and have no interior creaks and rattles or your screwed with just bad assembly! Tesla needs to crack down on their quality and fire those employees that are responsible for this terrible quality! Just lazy workers that dont give a shit about quality and have shoddy work. Totally unacceptable quality!

    • @GraysonCarr
      @GraysonCarr 3 місяці тому +1

      I don't know about accepting it as normal. More like putting up with it because the cars are so good in other ways. Like everything in life, it's a tradeoff. Some other manufacturers have better build quality, but crappy software or some other issues. Everyone has their own priorities and preferences.

      I think that is probably because it came from Fremont. Also other car manufactures are reducing their build quality.

      Fremont model y’s have improved a lot and my yp has been flawless. Even better then an Austin build I’ve come across. They have only been making the refresh in Fremont for a couple of months. So give it some time and they will get better.

      They don't care about the consumer satisfaction, built quality, etc. They just want as many of their vehicles on the road as possible to collect data for them. Frightening that these cars collect so much data from us.
