20 years ago Benchmade was top of the line and people absolutely loved them. Unfortunately in today's market it's hard to justify price vs what you get. SO many better options out there.

at this point in the company’s career, their prices are for ego. Just to be able to claim “we are the premier USA Knife Company. The price means high class.”
which is completely delusional if its true given the current knife market

I bought my 710 in M4 steel years ago for around $130 , I’d never pay what Benchmade is asking nowadays.

I'm on my 4th 710 with this new anniversary MagnaCut blade #1143 and I love it. The original 710 of mine came with D2 steel and I used it everyday for at least 10 years, it probably ruined me for getting excited for carrying any small blade knives even though I own 40 or more, I just don't go out the door with them, I like that 4 inch blade and it's shape is perfect for me. I also own a gold class Damascus with carbon fiber handles and another with blue handles and M390 that I use hard, all of them are such great knives and very different materials, Benchmade hit it perfect for me with the 710. I have 25 Benchmades and the 710 is my favorite by far, don't understand why they ever quit making them. Real happy with this new one.

I have a mini griptilian and it’s been amazing for 7 years of hard use. I wish I got the full size but there are other knives on my list now. Their pricing is an issue though. My Kizer carbon Begleiter is better in almost every way (other than the axis lock) and was half the price. Benchmade still makes amazing blades, but their prices have gotten a little outrageous. The competition have caught up in quality while keeping their prices reasonable.

Seeing the Benchmade Narrows on Knife swap selling for 300 to 350, I would buy one at that price to try it out. I will spend over 1k on a knife I see the value in, but 500+ for a new narrow, I just don't see it. A CRK or Mcnees is right at that price point.

If they're gonna charge that much for the 710 then they should at least heat treat the steel properly.

    • @HelplessTeno
      @HelplessTeno 4 місяці тому

61RC isn't bad, you're only losing less than 8% edge retention over going with the optimal RC of 62.5.
That being said, I completely agree. There's no reason you should be paying that price for anything less than the best heat treat.

I like most of the designs but I’m out on all accounts. Sometimes the pricing is a little high but it doesn’t generally bother me. Then the claymore came out and that’s the one that really bothered me. 360 dollars for a CPM-d2 and grivory handle otf…..nah. M390 Microtech with aluminum handles made in USA less than 300, kershaw otf with magnacut like 260ish made in USA……I just can’t. Love the design but god with inflation and everything I can’t afford what I used to. Agreed on almost everything. Not paying $600 for the limited Seven Ten, and the production one is supposed to have S90V for $400, which is completely asinine imo.
Have and love my mini auto Adamas, but I got the cru-wear version and it’s just fine. No need to spend the extra money for Magnacut on that one.
Shootout is nice I’m sure, but I’m hesitant to spend that much on grivory, when the main point was a lighter material for a folder like the bugout, not an otf.
Honestly, I’ll probably get the serrated claymore. I like the look of it.
Narrows just isn’t happening. I have a large Sebenza 31 tanto that was actually like $50 cheaper. I’ll keep my resale value over some thin M390.

The way Benchmade is marketing lately hurts me. They discontinue all these beloved top selling products, only to release them as limited runs years later. They could easily put the 42 and the 710 back in full production, but they won't. They want to be a boutique collector brand rather than a proper user knife company.
Spyderco and Benchmade are both guilty of insanely high pricing, but at least Spyderco doesn't discontinue their best products just for the sake of collection. It would be as if they discontinued the PM2 and only released limited runs every few years.
No wonder Benchmade has fallen behind, they lost the focus that made them great to begin with.

Omega springs breaking on me has been a constant issue with my benchmades. It seems as though benchmade realizes this and it’s why some of their newer models are moving away from the omega spring. Maybe when they have revamped their entire line to include locks which don’t go half power on you out of the blue I’ll consider buying one again but for now I’ll stick with brands that have locks that don’t fail on a whim.

I hear alot about omega springs breaking, so I know it happens. But it's never happened to me. I have a dozen crossbar locks. The oldest being an original Coldsteel Recon1, when it was a crossbar lock. I bought it in 2002, daily carried it for over a decade and beat the hell out of it. Still use it many times a year. Probably been opened and closed literally a *million* times. I fidget alot. Original springs. Bugout is the same way.

The knife market is the same as the gun market benchmade is glock and there are so many better options for the prices they charge. U gotta move with the Industry or get left behind. All knives shown are 20 plus years old we need new offerings it's 2024.

I bought a 42 way back in the
    Late 80's early 90's $150
    Still have it.
Had my name engraved on it.
Will hand it down to my grandson some day.
Also have a BHQ exclusive green 51 and two 87's.

The pricing is not crazy. The problem is the quality is not there anymore to justify the price. CRK makes an expensive knife and I love them. However they have the quality to back the cost. Benchmade no longer has that

Sorry but I can't disagree more with the the bugout. Put the plastic scale version and your hand and squeeze, they bend: knife is weaksauce. The metal scale versions are good.

Only don’t like the narrows due to cost that’s one knife that price truly effects desirability maybe should mention how overpriced they are. Ridiculously expensive but a wonderful knife. Just not worth it to me.

That's right. I won't buy them, because Benchmade knives are ridiculously overpriced for what you get.

The only issue I ever hear with the Shootout is the plastic grip. I’ve seen reviews stating the blade feels like it’ll pop out/grip feels flimsy. I want one someday but I’ll probably wait a few generations to grab one.
Edit: that knife at the end of the vid? DOPE.

So many drool-worthy knives! The only Benchmade I have is the 535BK-2 all black CF-Elite and I absolutely love it for my EDC.

Great video, the only thing I think would have added to the video is the hrc numbers for their magnacut and m390!!! Outside of that it was a great video for benchmade for sure! I’m a huge fan of your content more specifically your knife content!! Keep up the killer work bro!

With exchange rate, everything is expensive for me; and that includes the Bugout. I want one, but it seems nearly twice that I paid for Griptillians when they both seem to be on the same level.

The Benchmade LFK is fairly close to the socp. The LFK is shorter overall but has a 5.2" blade. I have one and it's awesome. It is an older design with a liner lock.

I have 13 Benchmade knives. Most of them autos. A couple of fixed blades too. Aside from a Spyderco Autonomy, they're all I carry.

WHENEVER YOU ARE SHOWING A KNIFE I LIKE WHEN YOU TELL US THE PRICE BECAUSE DEPENDING ON THE KNIFE AND MATERIAL IT MIGHT BE WORTH THE PRICE ..BUT PRICE ALWAYS MATTERS..
