Awesome video legends! I could genuinely feel your struggle. Maybe even more because we've went through the same hahaha! It makes you feel guilty towards your own knives and breaks your brain! Awesome picks! You even made it harder with the folders added! Thanks for the shout out! Stay sharp 🤘
Would love to see an EDC weekly style video where instead of people's EDC's, its there top 5 knives with an explanation as to why they picked those knives.
1. 9.5” gyuto pattern chefs knife 2. 4” blade scandi ground camp knife, ray mears pattern 3. 3.5 thin edc folder, pointed tip also use for paring and light kitchen 4. 3” hunting fixed blade. Drop point with belly 5. 6” semi flex boning knife, have to use for filleting fish too.
As a retired chef, the classic chefs knife is made to do everything if you have proper knife skills. Good job choosing the UG Tools, it's copy of the Global 7" Asian Chef's Knife
If you ever had a UG-Tools knife in your hand you would know and especially feel that this knife has nothing on common with other kitchen knives. These printed titanium handles are really insane and it’s hard to wrap your head around how light but durable they are.
@philipputsch4687 he means the general shape . Yes its a better version. But in the regular world where most can't afford or don't prioritise that much in a blade the global would be that style.
Taylor it was great hanging with you this past weekend at GA Bushcraft. I would credit Jon Graham of Graham knives for getting the ball rolling on pocket sheaths for fixed blades. He made some killer pocket sheaths for his razels starting in the early 2010s. BTW my 5 (and this was super tough): LTWK Wild Harvest Chef Knife, Gough Resolute MarkIII, James Gibson neck knife, CRK Sebenza, and... I don't know too many great choices for the 5th...
great video! im personally a fan of the Tops MSK 2.5. a few videos back, Taylor showed us that he bought this knife at Blade Show, snd said he wanted to talk about it. and i was so stoked to hear it. only to find out that in this video, taylor just wanted to express that it wasnt his neck knife of choice😂
Technically I own more than five knives but only ever carry one and I use 3 different ones in the kitchen. Paramilitary 2 for EDC for rest of my life. Had that knife 15 years and it’s the last knife I’ve ever bought outside of a chef knife to replace the one I broke.
@ Edge thinness doesn’t bother me. Cuts zip ties, opens boxes, whittles wood. I don’t intend to ever baton with it. I carry in my bag or in my car fixed blade for heavier tasks though I almost never use it. I love it because of the thumb hole, love spyderco’s system. Absolutely hate fiddling to open a pen knife. Love the locking mechanism, the flexibility of the pocket clip placement. I bought the Spyderco Military first but the length made it push out of my pocket when I was squatting so I then bought the paramilitary because I loved the thumb hole deployment.
I feel qualified to answer this as I literally have gone down to 5! I'm a bit of minimalist and I love knives but the idea off collecting makes me a bit uncomfortable in the last year I sold, threw away, and gifted most of my collection. I Chose to keep. Benchmade Bugout 535 in full titanium scales, clip, backspacer, and hardware Spyderco Paramilitary 2 full titanium scales, clip, backspacer, hardware Benchmade 550 griptilian fully stock. cruwear delica for daily carry, magnacut seb 31 for dress up, wustoff urban farmer 6" for the kitchen, s30v dragonfly w/ votix micarta for the light days, s90v pm2 as the yard beater
My favorite video content! CRK large sebenza drop point/micarta inlay, Benchmade Bailout w/ awt scales, white river hunter, Gollik knives Custom 5.75" elmax fixie, and a standard 7" chef knife.
Such a difficult task to choose just 5. Great list though for sure. Definitely jealous of that green zan. For me I'd have to go - 1. 8in chef knife (kitchen) 2. Bark River JX5 (Camp/Chop/Survival) 3. Bark River Bravo 1 (Camp/Hunt/Truck) 4. Primitive Woodsman EDC fixed blade (EDC/Hike, Backpacking) 5. Leatherman Arc (EDC). I would say Skeletool CX but I want the scissors and the better pocket clip
Dude I wanted to love the Umnumzaan but something about the finger groove on the lock bar didn’t work with my hand. It was just kinda pokey. I still like the Regular Sebenza and the 21.
Fantastic list video (and similar) ... makes one both really consider what's truly important for functionality/use, reliability/long-lasting, and what can vs. what should be compromised. Luv the consideration of a neck knife in the list. Nice categories. Thanks for the share. You only considered what is in your collection ... so please pick an HM of one you don't own and what would be replaced from your list! Thanks for the share/vid.
I keep my collection to a maximum of 15 knives total. If one’s added, a lesser knife goes. No budget stuff, really nothing over $300 currently aside from ones that have been given to me and they aren’t counted in the 15. A few fixies, a few slip joints and the rest are high end production like MY zaan, xm18 and SnG or cnc semi customs like my Oz Rosie, holt haptic and Koenig mini arius. The xm is next to go i think.
At this point mine is narrowed down to: EDC. Flipper delete Koenig Arius. I have been carrying mine most days for a year plus and it’s perfect, minus needing a deep carry clip. It was my original grail knife and now that mine is cerakoted armor black, it’s perfect. EDC work knife. Large CRK Sebenza 31 drop point with ti connector studs, cerakoted black, and Lynch flat top deep carry clip. I had 2 zaans in DP and tanto. Loved them and carried them because of your reccomendation, but when I got a sebenza I traded the zaans away. I prefer the detent, the ergos, the lockbar, the ability to front flip on the Seb. Mine is the smoothest in the world ;) Fidget knife. Machinewise SliftT balisong. I almost put a edc fixed blade instead of this but I’ve really gotten into flipping and this is by far the best Bali I’ve flipped, the sound of the TI, and the blade shape, ahhh it’s so cool!! If I did a small fixed blade instead for edc it would be the quiet carry current or white river exodus 3. Fixed blade for camping and bushcraft tasks. Fallkniven A1x. Convex, beastly, and ready for anything. Second choice would be a bark river gunny scandi. Both are great recommendations from DBK that I got hooked on. Kitchen knife: bob kramer/zwilling Meiji. Just an incredible design and handle and my favorite food prep knife.
Damn, this is a question I ask myself a whole lot since I narrow down rn. I think... in no particular order it'll be: Zaan, Masutani Gyuto, Manix 2 15V, Borka Stitch and a custom fixed blade from a friend in Aeb-l
Fixed blades are better than folders imo for every reason. Cheaper, more durable, more consistent, easier to make, less things to go wrong. Awesome video best damn EDC
I agree with you and when a buddy of mine recently asked me for a recommendation for a solid, everyday carry knife for under $150-$200, I told him an american made fixed blade with a 3-3.5" stainless steel blade (thats also tough) is his best move. Not only because there are less moving parts and its easier to clean but because you can get a fantastic fixed blade for the money while an American made folder with the same build quality will be $250-$450 (ZT, CRK, ect) I love carrying small EDC fixed blades but as a custom knife enthusiast my custom Burnley Kwaiken, McGinnis Spoke and McGinnis Extreme Hunter have completely taken over recently. I would love to get a Schwarz/Burnley Tern to add another fixie to the rotation tough.
you’re on crack thinking you’re gonna be able to do camping tasks well with kitchen knives as your only fixed blades 😂 the 0.078 stock on those tojiros is going to bend or snap from anything that’s not just food
Does ug tools ship to USA? Also would you consider making a full fix blade collection vid? Showing all fix blades and all sheaths? Because I just seen a edc fix blade in this video with good looking sheath that you didn't mention. It's one I would likely buy if I knew what it was.thanks!❤
If I could only own 5 knives this would be my list. 1. Benchmade 275 ADAMAS CPM CRUWEAR.. 2. Bark River Gunny Hunter.. 3. Bark River Bravo 1.25.. 4. MKC Bighorn Chef Knife.. 5. Maybe you could help me out, I saw a folding auto once I could have swore it had a kind of oval logo maybe, it had a pretty thick blade but not really heavy, but it had enough kick when it opened that if you were kinda just holding losely you'd think it was gonna jump out of you hand as it opened. It had a stone washed blade and I want to say it was somewhere between 400 to 800 bucks I can't remember really well about the price. It was way out of my range at the time. I saw it a couple years ago at knife city in Holbrook AZ
CRK Umnumzaan is a decent knife. I think with a few slight design changes it could be soo much better. On the other hand , a Rick Hinderer xm-18 slicer grind is soo much better daily user. As well as the Zero Tolerance 0562mic.
30:16 this part here made me think of something.. so let’s say this exact scenario happened, your friend hands you his/her ABSOLUTE FAVORITE KNIFE and you DROP it! It’s free falling blade out, tip down straight into the concrete below! Do you.. watch it fall and apologize profusely after.. or do you.. stick out your foot, with whatever shoe, foot covering, or lack there of, you are currently wearing, to sacrifice, in order to try to stop the knife from stabbing into the concrete, damaging it? Do you let it fall? Or do you maybe, potentially, let it stab you in your foot? It might not stab you, you might save it.. or you might accidentally kick it across the concrete damaging it even more.. Do you try saving the knife, or do you let it fall? What would YOU do in that situation?
Well.. i did it.. not even 8 hours after typing that.. I did the unthinkable, the unconscionable, the retarded.. never before have I done such a thing.. I was flipping and playing with my BRAND NEW WINTERBLADE VEYRON, downstairs in the basement, over a concrete floor, as I was looking for something.. something inconsequential.. and my brand knife knife slipped outta my hand, right after i flipped it open.. and so as I watched the Veyron drop point first towards the concrete, my comment above flashed before my eyes, and as the knife tumbled down towards the concrete floor, without even thinking I immediately stuck out my foot to try and save my fumble. Only problem was, I was only wearing moccasins. So immediately after the open knife struck my foot and less than gently smacked the floor, I was stunned and mad at myself for even trying to save it. It could’ve EASILY been wayyyyy worse.. it could’ve sliced my leg open so long and so wide or it could’ve went directly into my foot, through the moccasin and sock, and did some horrific and horrendous DAMAGE! I tried pulling my leg back just as quickly as I kicked at the falling and flailing, razor sharp knife and instantly realized what I had just done and just how incredibly STUPID that was of me.. But I managed to save my WINTERBLADE VEYRON. Looks like the tip of the blade survived and there’s only a little damage on the butt end of the handle.. it could have been soooo much worse, I know. But at least I was the one who did it. I don’t know how I’d feel if my friend did something like that and it ended up being badly damaged.. Also, I’m glad my catlike reflexes didn’t result in a hospital visit and lots of blood and stitches.. I’d like to say that if something like that were to happen again, that I wouldn’t do the same exact thing, and just let the knife fall, but I really don’t know.. I guess it’ll just depend on the knife, the circumstances and my reaction. But I just hope someone else might learn a little lesson from this.. DONT SACRIFICE YOUR FOOT OR LEG TO SAVE A FALLING KNIFE, ESPECIALLY WITH THE BLADE OUT! It’s probably not worth the consequences if you get it wrong. Luckily, this time, I got it right.. but I’m an idiot.
Yeah wasn’t something they started, MaxlvlEDC did a “if you could only own 5 knives” almost a year ago and even then I bet someone was before him so to call it a “DBK set” feels wrong. Granted they specifically mentioned no folders so sticking to that criteria I guess it works since their “set” is identifying fixies only not in knives in general
Plenty of other people have done similar videos. I even have. I’m just saying they did it so that’s what made me want to make this one. Don’t read too far into it
It was harder than I thought from my collection HFB crow jr MKC bearded butchers knife HFB hunter skinner HFB congressman MKC speedgoat ultra Honorable mention bradford guardian 4
I'm very biased with my knives I own obviously that's why I tend to keep knife collection super small no more than 10 but I can't imagine not having the Rosie as top 5, could be because I have one of the rarest ones but can't imagine leaving it out regardless.
Hey man, love your channel. Awesome info on many different brands. I had a quick question. Would love to hear your thoughts. I have carried a Kershaw Emerson collaboration knife for years now it’s the one that automatically opens as you pull it out of your pocket. I’m in the market for a new knife, and I’ve really gotten spoiled to that feature , but I have been hearing some pretty negative stuff about Emerson lately. Do you have any suggestions of high-quality brands that feature the automatic opening.
Spyderco has some of their japanese made knives with the emerson wave. Some cold steels have a similar feature with a plate that is on knives such as the AK47. I like the cold steel style a lot, maybe even more than emerson style.
He's no gentleman. But his knives are drooly-enticing... His knives have class. Interesting how my $159 worth of 5 knives (all I own) fit the bill exceedingly well. That was accomplished by getting DEALS and hand making some of them. 1. Leatherman Signal ($50) 2. Condor Kephart cut down to Izula2 size and micarta handle ($40) 3. Gerber Prodigy ($60) 4. German icing knife cut down and profiled to kitchen use ($1) 5. Milwaukee utility folder ($8)
I had a little edc I lost when I got fired while off sick! It was a Whitby edc yellow handle and black blade! I’ve not been able to find one! It cost me £2.50
@@danc2651 1. XM-24 Bowie in 20CV, it has value due to me getting it on a lucky drop after 2 years of trying. 2. WinterbladeCo factor 8ight. 3. Rockstead Higo DLC
Good thing is multitools don't count as knives right? 😅 I'd be screwd up complete. I've spend the whole video thinking about my 5. The thing is, for me it's choosing between not only knives but makers too. Which makes it even harder. Can't tell right now
Ok...I agree with the Chris Reeve as heirloom quality, from a price stand point... and such... how many grandfathers or great grandfathers... had... less than 5 knives... that lasted their lives... and none were probably over $150, and I'd say that's on the high side. Hell... go back to early settlers... they would have survived... made work 3 maybe 4 knives...and I'm sure they didn't baby them...
My five would be 1: kukkri ( cold steel ) 2: Bark River bravo 3: esse 4 4: bob 5: Bench Made 944 folder Hard choices to make because you want to be able to use them in many different situations.
I like your 5, but I don't know if I'm brave enough to try this. Maybe 10? ok, 15.....no wait.....20? Thankfully this is only for fun and I don't actually have to let any of my friends go!

The concept of a dress knife just never made sense to me. Maybe I don’t dress up enough or have enough money to care, however I’ve never looked at any of my other tools and thought they weren’t fancy or dressy enough for me 😂.
I wouldn’t even consider a folder in this Canario. That being said why would this situation arise? Even if it became law how would they police it. I’d hide more than 5 knives
I don't care for slip joint knives. I cut myself enough when I was a kiddo and the blade closed on my fingers, lol. If you haven't, try a scenerio based on cost.
Hey, I really like your channel. I watch it not every day, but I try to watch it a lot. And I like. Everything you talk about, but I was just wondering. I just got not too long ago from BIG IDEA DESIGN they’re very first fix blade the lookout and I really really love it but I was just wondering do you know of any company that makes a really thin leather sheath that would work for my lookout fix blade or that’s made for the lookout fix blade and also has a really good pocket clip or can use the ULTI-CLIP on it, and it doesn’t cost very much money for the leather sheath that would make the knife sit in my pocket way lower
The American-made Lookouts have a leather sheath. I’m not positive, but you could ask Big I who the maker of that sheath is and see if you could commission one
@ @ are those leather sheets really good or would you recommend a different one? I also was wondering, how can I contact you by email? I would like to ask you some questions.
Demko AD20.5 as the best all around, I don't own a Zaan tho. Camping fixed blade would be Esee or Ontario. I carry 2 hard use knives in my truck, Cold Steel SRK and a Cold Steel Code 4. Code 4 could really be any of several CS folders. There must be a Spyder on my list and probably Para3 G10 s45vn. Or the new Magnacut once it's released.
@@PandaFPV As an EDC channel--hence it called Best Damn EDC, it is implied that these would be EDC related. Does he regularly talk about non-edc? No. So yeah, there ya go.

That UGTool Svartisen is sick. Really want it but its not on their site
In some days it is available on our site, we were surprised by this video as well 😊
@ Ty for the reply. I’ll definitely be getting one to go along with my other Chef knife I brought back from Japan
Where do you get your edc fixed blade pocket clips
I saw you hesitate pushing that izula aside;)
I was trying to find the UG knife Svartisen I went onto the website, but I was unable to find it
Hey Taylor, I have a spare leather sheath that might fit the kitchen knife, hit me up with the dimensions if you want it.
Don’t read too far into it
DBK also seem to have started the challenge/trend this time round.
I live in the UK, can only edc a slipjoint, my question is what do you think would be your best slipjoint knife?
I’d pick that Ranger
It was harder than I thought from my collection
HFB crow jr
MKC bearded butchers knife
HFB hunter skinner
HFB congressman
MKC speedgoat ultra
Honorable mention bradford guardian 4
What’s the knife in the middle at 10:20?
I'd also like to know
Got it - Rhidian Rogue Wave
How do I get on the list to buy your knife?
They'll be available in March and it shouldn't be a problem to get your hands on one.
Video with a quick overview of gear and vehicles?
He's no gentleman. But his knives are drooly-enticing... His knives have class. Interesting how my $159 worth of 5 knives (all I own) fit the bill exceedingly well. That was accomplished by getting DEALS and hand making some of them.
1. Leatherman Signal ($50)
2. Condor Kephart cut down to Izula2 size and micarta handle ($40)
3. Gerber Prodigy ($60)
4. German icing knife cut down and profiled to kitchen use ($1)
5. Milwaukee utility folder ($8)
Hey, if they work-they work.
A Milwaukee folder is in all of my work bags. Incredibly practical. An OKNIFE Otacle U1 is often in my pocket. I like your list.
I had a little edc I lost when I got fired while off sick! It was a Whitby edc yellow handle and black blade! I’ve not been able to find one! It cost me £2.50
I know no folders but this is my list.
Leatherman signal
Microtech socom elite
Toor knife overlord
Microtech stitch
Cold steel Recon Tanto
Zaan is king. Great vid
Of all the folders i own. A CRK wouldn't even be on my top 10.
What's your top 3 folder ?
Ahhh, my Sebenza is an oooooollllllddd friend...
@@danc2651 1. XM-24 Bowie in 20CV, it has value due to me getting it on a lucky drop after 2 years of trying. 2. WinterbladeCo factor 8ight. 3. Rockstead Higo DLC
Nice watch Mr. Martin
Yeah, if that knife reminds you of your grandpa I’m sure it reminds you of a future dad
Next vid: What 5 knives would I choose with a $100 limit on each one?
If it’s the only knives you own forever. It’s truly. Buy once, cry once.
The meat crafter is a monster!!! I got one for me and one for the wife!!
My five would be
1: kukkri ( cold steel )
2: Bark River bravo
3: esse 4
4: bob
5: Bench Made 944 folder
Hard choices to make because you want to be able to use them in many different situations.
UG Tools got awesome knives
Thank you very much! Yes we have awesome stuff and hope to get more fans in the US
I like your 5, but I don't know if I'm brave enough to try this. Maybe 10? ok, 15.....no wait.....20? Thankfully this is only for fun and I don't actually have to let any of my friends go!
I am sure we will hear a lot more from UG-Tools. Their knives are on another level. Truely no-compromise knives
You need more tkell knives. The reif is great but you would probably like the taylor's ridge better from tkell
Kitchen-Victorinox Fibrox Pro 8" Chef
Outdoor/Truck Fixed Blade- KN Knives Warrior custom
EDC Fixed - Nordsmith Skipjack
EDC Folder - DPX HEST Leggaro Naked

I have several
Lamson Chinese Vegetable Cleaver (Had mine for 30 years. Use it everyday. Does everything in the kitchen.)
CCK Big Rhino Cleaver (Can chop through a hog femur clean with no blade damage)
BPS Knives BS3 CSH (Basically a full tang Mora Companion)
Rough Ryder Congress (reprofiled an setup for wood carving)
Opinel Garden Knife
The concept of a dress knife just never made sense to me. Maybe I don’t dress up enough or have enough money to care, however I’ve never looked at any of my other tools and thought they weren’t fancy or dressy enough for me 😂.
Yeah, my knuckles drag on the ground too...😂
I wouldn’t even consider a folder in this Canario. That being said why would this situation arise? Even if it became law how would they police it. I’d hide more than 5 knives
OMG "Ricky Record."
I don't care for slip joint knives. I cut myself enough when I was a kiddo and the blade closed on my fingers, lol. If you haven't, try a scenerio based on cost.
If I could only own 5
Civivi Vision fg
Cold steel 4Max
ESEE 5
Buck 891 ground combat knife made in 5160
My Shun for cooking
If I can only have a thousand knives😂
@@BestDamnEDC hey do you have any way of contacting you privately or by email? I’d like to ask you some questions
Watching you pull those meat crafters out of their sheaths had me wincing. Don’t slice your wrist please.
What? No Luzon 6" ????
no folders? I'll pass. Let me know when there's a video for folders (or if there is one already).
You clearly don't have Miyabi
Demko AD20.5 as the best all around, I don't own a Zaan tho. Camping fixed blade would be Esee or Ontario. I carry 2 hard use knives in my truck, Cold Steel SRK and a Cold Steel Code 4. Code 4 could really be any of several CS folders. There must be a Spyder on my list and probably Para3 G10 s45vn. Or the new Magnacut once it's released.
Did you say George Bushcraft? lol
💯
Oh 3rd one to comment boy I feel special 🫡😁

Kitchen knives don't belong in your EDC.
Fact
It's your most used knife...
@@leveljoe but I don't carry it with me wherever I go, that would be kind weird :)
Where in the title does it say “only 5 edc knives”
@@PandaFPV As an EDC channel--hence it called Best Damn EDC, it is implied that these would be EDC related. Does he regularly talk about non-edc? No. So yeah, there ya go.
Biggest sell on UA-cam
First love the vid ❤❤
You haven’t even had time to watch it yet lol
They watched it on 10x speed
@ That is exactly what I did
