Thanks! Man I miss making PvP improvement content so much. Thats the whole reason I started making UA-cam videos in the first place. It’s just been so hard to get views on that kind of content over the past few years that most of us have been forced to pivot away from it to stay afloat financially. I really hope the new focus they seem to be putting on PvP brings enough interest that we can afford to make more content like this regularly

playing with intention is really important. I feel like its something newer players dont get specially on trials. the time it takes to ress, holding a lane with ghosts, learning to play more safe to wait on a pick, small decisions that make the whole of a good partner on matchmaking is always if they're paying attention to the limited decisions the enemies can make against them while they hold these places.

I think he's talking about two different things but didn't properly clarify, watching experienced players has helped my game sense and map awareness a lot, not because I'm trying to mimic the way they move or aim but because I'm paying attention to where in the map they go, little ledges and "cheese spots" that most players don't know exist are very helpful for catching people off guard. The knowledge they can give you is the valuable thing, some of the commentary that players like cammycakes can also help teach game sense to a degree.

One of my favorite things about my times spent trying to get good at fighting games is the ability to try to predict habits of players on a micro and macro-game scale. It translates in FPS games pretty well. Knowing someone's pace and aggression is a pretty important part of PvP games. It's almost like getting to know a person in a sense. The ability to predict these things comes from a foundation of the knowledge of the game. There's levels!

Was just breaking down exactly this to someone yesterday about how within the first round of comp or trials you need to feel out and get a rating in your head of their aggro to passivity and if they are a crutch first or primary player. Crutch first people will play too hard off a fusion as their main, or a peregrine titan trying to hard to use it or that hunter sliding into your lane in reality is dodging right the heck backwards with a decoy threading spam being his real opener. Once you have those in mind you can really keep them at bay or play advantageously against their crutch.

47:01 I agree completely, and I think that a lot of the recent changes work against this idea. Snowballing special ammo, primary meta, less body shot damage. Bungo made the crucible LESS rewarding for players with lower skill and experience, which is NOT what I wanted from a game that is already notoriously frustrating and sweaty in the eyes of new and casual guardians

The problem is back in the day when comp was good there was something to grind for. And it was challenging if you were an average player even getting to Luna's Howel was hard but it felt great when you finally achieved it.
The only one that didn't feel great was mountaintop because it took so damn long at least for anyone who did it the legit way.
And those weapons were amazing both in PVP and PVE they were the best weapons so the player base in terms of people who wanted the weapons was so much larger and they just haven't been able to duplicate that.

8:10 applies to so many games, made me think about LoL for a second. The threat of an ability is often times more impactful than using the ability because it allows you to be immediately punished if you missplay, or just the difference it makes when one person dies.

    • @charlestonjew7587

The problem with any multiplayer game is regardless of the developers' intent, players will find a way to suck the fun out of it in favor of min/maxing and cooming all over their spreadsheets.
It's even more so prevalent now when there's a million UA-cam videos out there, "THE MOST BROKEN OP PVP BUILD YOU SHOULD BE USING" or "THIS WEAPON IS A MUST IN TRIALS", "IF YOU'RE NOT USING THIS LOADOUT IN PVP, YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG."
It's been this way since the dawn of the MMO. This is why I generally prefer to do PvE content with a group friends or even strangers. I do some PvP but I see the same sweaty spazzes in almost every match.

If you make adept weapons obtainable for all players the player pool will increase. 7 successive wins lighthouse run. 15 or more wins with losses between grants a lighthouse run. It's frustrating for lesser skilled players to get 3-4 wins and then lose twice and have to start over. This also lowers stress level which equates to better overall performance. This is good advice, and I don't know if you look at old comments, but here's mine as a guy that got into D1 because I just wanted to see as a a guy in his 40's if I still had it, I'm currently top 31% player: 1. Play 6v6 and rumble, don't get discouraged. 2. Focus on not dying first, the kills will come--the aim you learn in PVE does carry over to an extent--learn lanes where you will be sniped or where shotgunners hang out. 3. Loadouts matter. Find one that works for you. 4. I wish I remember which streamer said this but, learn if you are an inside out or an outside in player. That means are you a guy that is comfortable running into the fray with a shotgun and HC and existing with players all around you. I'm not I'm an outside in player, I like scouts, snipers and keeping distance between me and everyone. This works in most modes, you have to be really, really good to make it work in Trials. Also, neither is less aggressive then the other its just where you want to push at. 5. Aim at the neck, most of the time it will be a head shot.

Funny! The main argument from the upper echelon PVP players against SBMM when Bungie turned it on was, "We want to be able to play with fun, non-meta, weird loadouts" but all I see from upper echelon players in the casual playlists are meta loadouts-the kind of loadouts you see in Trials. That's SO much fun to play against in casual playlists. It looked like the players were having so much fun in that game at the 3:40 mark half the team quit. But let's not have SBMM. LOL!

what made a big difference for me was swapping from Console to a high end PC. I was a mid player PVE and a bad PVP player. I felt instantly way more comfortable with Mouse and Keyboard. From that point on it was to find the right DPI settings on my Mouse but i was so much better to keep focused on my target. But the biggest difference was by feeling more comfortable i felt calm, on Controller i was always outside my comfort zone and felt stressed in PVP. From there i learned to adapt to situations and be more aware of my surroundings because i had the capacity to learn. So i think to learn the best thing is to find ways to feel comfortable and calm so you got the capacity to learn what you do wrong. And don't blame others or the game if you play bad, look what went wrong and learn from it, blaming other wont make you better at the game, just more angry. But i am not saying to get good buy a PC, totally not! I have played with people who are excellent on controller, this was just what made me improve by feeling more comfy personally.

  • @MasterCJ117

The nice thing about airborne effectiveness is it balanced the field more between the classes,
Hunter jump always had an advantage in the air, especially with Bows,
1 - gaining height much quicker, (Catapult is closest but still slower)
    2 - holding bow drawn after jumping(2 & 3 should've been a part of Oathkeeper exotic perk)
3 - holding aim while wielding a bow, (other classes un-aim bows when activating jump)
The only disadvantage Hunter jump has is a slightly longer time to aim non-bow weapons after jumping, but that's offset by not losing any upward momentum by aiming(Titan & Warlock is faster aim time, but disables jump, losing upward momentum)
    The only exceptions are,
Titan: Lion Rampant, allows bow draw while jumping ONLY while hip-fire, aiming is still affected.
Warlock: Heat Rises, the only thing better than Hunter jump, but it is arguably TOO strong, it's uptime in PvP just feels too oppressive, however, it's only on one sub-class, whereas Hunter jump is default for all sub-classes.
You guys talking about no airborne effectiveness made me realize Destiny needs more verticality in the maps, we need more ledges we can fight people from, rather than trying to jump around emulating those ledges, or using stasis to make the ledges. (Started talking to someone while typing this sentence, it makes sense to my distracted brain but I have a feeling I didn't word it great)

2: Use a loadout and playstyle fit to your current skill level. Supporting your team doesn't just mean getting kills
3: Pace yourself with your teammates. Rushing in and dying alone is just as bad as staying in the Spawn not participating in fights
4: Don't be afraid to use anything that is available in the game. Adapt instead of complaining about strong abilities or gear.
5: Find people who want to win and play with them consistently.
6: 19:05 Tips on aiming and peripherals

You can dislike it for sure, and they pointed out portions of the metagame they dislike, but they're also not blinded by their disdain for it.

I would say that instead of just watching top tier players, start by watching a top tier player that uses similar tactics and loadouts to what you already like using, you will see the differences in play more easily over trying to figure out what is skill and what is loadout/tactics, then, once you understand them and can implement what they do into your own play, branch out into other loadouts/tactics that other top tier players are using. As for how to grow PVP population and bring PVP and PVE players together more, I would make sure that the vast majority of the top tier meta weapons come from the opposing game type, so, the "Not Forgotten" type weapons would come from end game PVE like raids and dungeons, and vice versa, as this would encourage more average players to share their skills with each other rather than divide players between PVP and PVE. My reasoning for my previous idea is that if you give the most meta weapons to a lower skill player, they will generally do better against a wider range of opponents and enjoy themselves more, whereas a top tier player will still more often win against the average player with a meta weapon, it will still encourage more PVE focused players to try out PVP endgame when they get the weapons that are considered to be the top meta options.

The problem is that it has no competitor. There is no other game that is really remotely like it. If you like BRs, there are a ton. If you like COD, there's a new one every year. If you like CS, there's that and Valo. If you want CS, but with chars and destruction, there's R6. You like COD and destruction, there's BF. If you like hero shooters, there's TF2 and OW. If you like Halo, there is MCC and Infinite. If you like boomer shooters, there is Quake and some smaller indie stuff. If you like Destiny, you play destiny or just quit. There's nothing else with that kind of movement, ability sandbox, TTK or handcannons.

Moralities in pvp is something I dont struggle with but deal with it. I use a base/stock xbox controller and use off meta builds that put me at a disadvantage so that its more exciting to win, as well as improving mechanically, I don’t like cheese weapons or abilities because I feel like it puts a cap on your improvement potential rather that “stooping too low” and I also feel its dishonorable. I feel if people want to improve they should use off meta loadouts or unorthodox weapons or play-styles because it will help improve their gunskill and mechanical skill rather than relying on an ability to spam or crutch on; same goes for crutch weapons, examples I feel fit that term, would be osimancy gloves cold snap + jotunn, or wishender/le mon + oathkeepers, peregrine greaves. All of those I feel puts a cap on the potential to improve as they act as crutches.
My best advice for improving in pvp, in: having awareness. Be aware of your ability cooldowns, teammates positions, radar pings, sounds such as jumps or movement, enemy’s use of special ammo. enemiy’s weaponry. What or when you or your enemies super is close to being full. And finally of them all do not hold down your sights or lane for extended period of times (10 or more seconds) because in those seconds you could be rotating to help a teammate, stop an enemy push or notice an enemy flanking but hard scoping with a scout at the back of the map and tunnel visioning could be detrimental to the game
Edit: another advice is to avoid indecisiveness because that split between decision making is worse than the two options you’re split between. Either go all in or all out with an decision. From my experience being confident in either of the two nets the best results than half trusting a decision. An action is better than no action.

This actually was one of your best interviews imo. So many content creators always suggest playing with better player as a means to get better but most “better” players aren’t interested in helping anyone get better. Some are, most aren’t. Diffizle sort of admitting that was a mad respect moment.
Also when better players talking about movement and kind of leave it at that. Or just saying using the right jump. There is more to it then just that but everybody seems to nod their head and say yeah work on movement.
Not hating on any players but not everyone wants to be a teacher and I get it. People want things…going flawless, reaching ascendent, etc and playing with weaker players than themselves can hinder that. That’s my D2 “community” pet peeve…”just play with better players” oh is that it? I’ll just knock on my neighbor door and we will team up 🤣🤣🤣

In my experience, I can understand where Fizz is coming from playing with better players and them normally not being interested in helping people improve. I personally played a lot and slowly improved my game sense and my gunplay and just overall knowledge of the game, then better players noticed me and we started playing together. Not saying for everyone it’s like that, but I think you have to want to improve and then naturally, you’ll attract the better players. Most of my friends I’ve made through pvp but not everybody’s experience in pvp is the same

    • @TheBigSleazy
      @TheBigSleazy 9 місяців тому +1

@@DonRobertoDeMuerte for sure…I totally agree. I’ve done both play with better player and play with my friends that are new to pvp or just enjoy it very casually.
My kind of “community” pet peeve is to just tell people just go find better players to play with like it’s super easy and those folks are just going on trees lol. Most really good players have people they already squad up with or don’t have time, patience etc to help weaker players. That’s with no hating on anyone because I totally get it. It’s right up there for me when people say just get a good team for trials. It’s like if you are average to below average good luck with that…everybody’s looking for someone better than they are to team up with.
I think it’s a part of a larger theme in the community when it comes to SBMM, improving, AE, loot, getting better, good playlist population etc. like if the “weaker” player population how many want to actually improve(and will put in the time it takes..there are no shortcuts in my opinion) vs people that just really want to be carried or want an easier way to get access to specific loot. Like how big is that population and how big is the other population that just wants to stay where they are but wants loot and a curated experience

    • @DonRobertoDeMuerte
      @DonRobertoDeMuerte 9 місяців тому +1

@@TheBigSleazy yah the community is so split when it comes to loot, especially in trials. At this point, i don't play for the loot, but rather just cause I enjoy trials. Comp is boring after hitting ascendant cause it takes 10 minutes to get a game, and if you're trio, good luck not matching cheaters. Trials can either be as casual or hardcore as the player makes it in my experience. You can go in trios and just expect harder games in general, or duo and solo queue where the majority of the pvp community seems to play.
I do agree that alot of the more casual audience isn't interesting in pvp in general and is kind of forced to play cause there's a pve weapon locked behind it. It's a difficult thing to figure out from bungie cause trials is like a weird spot where it's a loot source, but considered more "prestigious" than comp, so better players overall care more about trials games more than comp. I don't really envy players trying to find better pvp players though cause it's difficult.
Pvp, especially in D2 isn't for everybody, but at least for me, I think if you're looking to improve in pvp, it's abusing the meta like Fizz mentions or you just find your niche build that works out well in trials. I fall into the meta, but on checkmate weekend's been experimenting on different builds, but they'll always be a meta to fall back on.

This video in a nutshell, “just play the game 5head”
I understand that everything that is said had to be the broadest possible advice, that being said, nothing that is said is wrong, but a very important thing to remember for everyone out there that is trying to get better, be more critical of yourself than your teammates, because it is very easy to shift blame off of yourself and onto your teammates.
Another thing is if you can record yourself you should, so you can look at it later and figure out what you can improve on.
Remember when it comes to predicting people and how they will act, as you get higher and higher into the “ranking” system of any game it gets harder and harder to predict there actions, this is just a fact of any competitive anything, that isn’t to say that you shouldn’t have a game plan.
I don’t comment on most videos I enjoy your content, Mr. Gaming, I just feel that there were just a few things that people should know.

The part about peripherals is very true. A lot of people fall down the dunning kruger rabbit hole of seeing gear as "meaningless", just because they have never used anything but their 10 year old mousepad and the G502, which is by the way completely understandable. These people are probably not looking to actually get into the top ranks of their game of choice and only occasionally play PvP content.
It is not the gear that is making you better, but the drive to become better. The very fact that you are willing to sink thousands of dollars on "better" peripherals, means that you really care about improving and are more likely to improve much faster.

I'm a 1.4 KA/D. I've gone flawless three times; all as a solo. My last being a couple weeks back. I've got 1,000s of hours playing destiny (Not a brag. More of a confession.) and hundreds in Trials. That all said, every Flawless I've earned has been due to sheer, unadulterated determination and perseverance. Win one, then lose, win two then lose, win three then lose, win one, lose, win, lose, win, win, lose, lose, lose. It was a massive grind EVERY time. There are so many players out there, who are light years better than me, which is what makes going Flawless the proudest moment I've ever had playing D2, and that includes earning a guided Conqueror and soloing Pit of Heresy, Spire of the Watcher, and Grasp of Avarice, and way back, when I FINALLY earned Luna's Howl, thanks to an excellent team who was patient, kind and forgiving of my many PVP foibles. I share that to help explain where I'm coming from, and what I am as a player, when I say that every time Bungie makes it easier to go Flawless, I feel the less it means to those who make it. Especially those of us scrubs who just refuse to quit and glory in the grind. Peace to you all, my fellow guardians. See you at the Tower.

I’ll share how I got better. (for context, i was terrible.. less than 1.5 kd, armor stats never mattered to me)
    1. I learned how to focus on armor stats that will benefit my favorite subclass. When I was able to get 100 res & 100 rec on my titan, i noticed a huge difference in gun fights.
    2. Record your gameplay and watch it back.
I play on xbox and theres a feature that allows you to record up to 45 seconds of your most recent gameplay.
Whenever I’d die and didn’t understand how or why, i’d record it and review it later.
“Where the enemy?”, “where was my team?”, “why wasn’t i with my team?”, “did i have the correct archetype of weapon?” etc.
    3. Accept losses and don’t give up on your team.. but learn when to take breaks.
I knew I was really bad, but I never allowed that to change my mindset. Even if my team was down by 20-40, I just kept trying. I’ll switch guns, change subclass, etc.. but I don’t quit or throw.
I also made sure to take breaks in between back to back L’s.
    4. Be honest with yourself and with LFG groups… and listen to other players who are better.
Players are always willing to help as long as you listen to their gameplan & follow directions. Be open minded with your approach to the game

On "morality", I think Playing To Win by David Sirlin should be mandatory reading for people trying to compete and improve.
A super important part is differentiating when you're playing for fun vs competing. Saint doesn't ask you whether you crutched the meta when you get to the lighthouse. Your Ascendant emblem doesn't come with an asterisk if you used Jotunn.

Problems with expedited experience from seeing highly skilled players is that it can’t happen if sbmm caps the better players from getting in your lobbies 🤷‍♂️ so that approach is mostly out the door if you don’t play trials… maybe comp if it’s been better fixed so that you are forced to work your way up a ladder of skill. I’m ascendant 1 but I don’t see how. Sure I have been gaming since early 2000’s but there are people that I know can’t make certain movements that make certain movements in console lobbies and I can’t out ttk them unless I use cheese because their headshot ratio is 90%+ feel me. Mine is around 60-77% on all weapons and I play LEGIT because I got an ego but man… I hate sbmm. Just try and slide or jump a corner you don’t already have first peek on in my lobbies, 😂 you better be lucky. I duck 75% of snipes after an hour of pvp… but even then. I don’t feel like I deserve the couple of ascendant emblems I own.

I am mostly a PvE player in D2 but I have gone flawless a couple few times. I would say what keeps me away from Trials specifically is the requirement of flawless and how rough the skill gap is. I get to win 6 out of 7, I have 0 mercies left and my opponent is then for the last match GernaderJake in a demon 3 stack.
Which, is fine.... but the "flawless system" combined with that kind of matchmaking makes trials feel like a complete waste of time. Unlike in Apex Legends, or other games where, sure running into a demon squad once every few games isn't a huge deal. You're still processing in rank and having fun.
Trials flawless requirement makes the game mode feel like a massive waste of time.
