I bought an LCV from Music Emporium a couple of years ago-great people at that shop, and the guitar more than lives up to Dan’s raves about its tone and feel. I love it.
This guy plays is such a refined, soulful way--not showy just heart. If I could play like this for just 15 min in my life, that would be enough. Masterful. I tear up and I dont even know exactly why.
So cool to hear the difference with such a great player. Id love to hear a video of the Collings with the Ron Ellis pickups!!! Thanks for all you guys do!
Magnatone and many amps from 1958 till 1968 were voiced for (semi)hollowbodies, even those with humbuckers. Now, practically no amps are; they are usually set up for strats, lps and teles. FYI, in case you buy a collings semi-hollowbody like I did. (Lark music and the music emporium which both sell Collings also sell Magnatones remade for true vintage style sound)
I think I prefer the Vintage. It seems to have more texture. The highs on the I-35 LC w/Throbaks seemed a bit more lean, distinct and precise. Not a bad thing, but in my hands maybe less forgiving? I am loving the Organic nature I am hearing from the Vintage Model. I wonder if I am going for BB King or clean Bluesy/jazzy tones on the neck PU, would the Vintage model still deliver more?

This is the most useful I-35 LC Vintage video on the internet. It’s also completely engaging and moving musically. Thank you!
After hearing the LCV I purchased one. Jet black, aged finish with such a sweet tone. I love it.
Beautiful playing...very musical and soulful. Great tone with some nice harmonic textures.

The low end tone is incredible! Looks like I’m amp shopping
Duke! Such a deep player. Both sound great, the vintage seemed more open and clear, I’m torn between the standard and vintage!
Some of the best playing this side of the internet.
Exceptional. Thanks TME.

Pretty sure Duke could make a rubber band stretched across a shoebox sound good, but... wow.

Likely so!
I got so lost in the playing I didn't really focus on the differences between the guitars
How can I get tabs for this beautiful piece of music?
Awesome..
What are the pickups on the first one?
Those would be Throbak ESG-102B
Gorgeous guitar, but I’m not sure I would spend thousands extra for one. I’d probably just look for a nice Gibson ES335.
More treble/presence on the vintage, thats the only difference I hear. And that's probably just the different pickups.
Beautiful guitar, but for £8000 .... no way.
