    Great video, Dale. Thanks for the comparison. You are a talented player and are generous to share your knowledge in these videos and also your lessons and of course your LLB concerts. As a fellow Collings "nut," I too appreciate the quality of what the Collings brand stands for.
    Those are good looking guitar stands for these guitars. Can you share where you got those?
    Thanks again, Dale.

    I just picked up an I-30LC w/Throbak PU's. It is blowing me away so much I started looking at I-35LC's and the new I-35 LC Vintage to see what the Humbucker version might offer. After all this time, do you have a preference? I-35LC w/Humbuckers or I-30LC w/P90s? also, any comments about Lollar versus Throbak PUs in either of these? Great comarison. Thank you. Enjoy your authentic genuine comments as well.

      hello Gary, thanks for checking this out and congrats on your new guitar! I had an original, solid wood, I35 first. Beautiful guitar, a bit heavy and sounded a little too 'alive' if anything.
      When Mr C offered the I35LC I sold the solid wood and bought the one I have in the video. LOVE the guitar, it's hotter with the TB PUPS but in a good way. Really does anything I want the guitar to do and sound like.
      I got an I30LC when they came out so I've had it awhile - LOVE the guitar. Yes sir it's different as you know, especially if you add an I35LC to your collection. Mine has Lollars, which I love. It's more 'acoustic' sounding in a way, the pickups are not as hot as the TB but I love the contrast. Hard to put into words but the guitars give me enough of a different feel and vibe that they are different enough to really enjoy on their own merits.
      I have an I35LCV on order. I guess you could say I'm a fan of this series - welcome to the club - I'll help in any way possible. The Gear Page has some good discussion on these models as well. your friend and Collings bro, dale.

    Hey there. I have a question. Playing with overdrive/distortion and a loud drummer... is feedback an issue with the I30LC hollow body.

    • @tonedr
      @tonedr  5 років тому

      it will definitely let you know it's hollow at some point but not to a degree that in interferes with what i do - for very loud contexts it might be a challenge:)

    I know most of these likely have laminate tops. Have you tried an I35 with Spruce on top. I've seen a few for sale. Would love to know your opinion on those ? Which would you keep between I35 and I30 if you could only keep one ?

    • @tonedr
      @tonedr  6 років тому

      both of these are laminate tops, the LC is Laminate Construction. I've had an I35 with a solid maple top but never spruce. I would imagine it to be a very acoustic guitar, in a good way but i don't have any experience with one. only one? tough one - i'm still in honeymoon period with I30 but prob pick it - just an amazing instrument in every facet.

      thanks for the kind words...I bias but I'd say yes in that they are very different guitars which is good. The I35 I think will feel enough different thank you 335, yet chasing the same vibe, that you'll enjoy both. I've been fortunate to have all 3 versions of the I35. The I35 solid wood is perhaps my least fafe although an amazing guitar. I now have the I35LC and I35LCV.

    • @tonedr
      @tonedr  11 місяців тому

      hello! I would say maybe a humbucker style guitar over the single coil pickups in fender style guitars. The Humbucker is a full sound covering more of the tonal spectrum to accompany your voice perhaps. An acoustic guitar for singing solo is likely where you'll end up.

    Hi Dale, you are telling it like it is. I had a I35LC Vintage with the Throwbacks. They are edgier to my ear, but I didn't keep that guitar. Just a bit to raw to my liking but thats just me. I have had a few I35LC guitars and still have my tobacco I30LC. I am being honest here. I think the I30LC is the best sounding guitar ever and my favorite of their line up. The dog ear P90s are sublime, they cut, and have a 3D swirly tone when combined with the hollow body. I am 60 years old and have 8 super killer sounding hand picked guitars that I have narrowed down to over the years. A good Strat maple neck, Les Paul, Explorer, Martin, Tele, another Strat with rosewood board, Gibson 355 and the Collings I 30LC. All the Gibsons and Fenders are custom shop guitars. If I had to take one guitar out of the line up for everything it would be the I30LC. It such an all around monster and its light weight. Like u, I went with Calton cases for most everything. And did that after noticing your cases from videos (: I like the tone of your I30LC over the 35. Great videos!

    Dale, permission to get a review from you?....have been thinking strong on writing a book.and was hoping to get some feedback. In first grade my descriptive "Thats Life" ended me up in the cafeteria with three nationals for a week of tests that shook my parents pretty good. In Jr. High I had 2 printed in the State Finals, with awards then in High School, the newspaper staff with a printing. [I feel like Rudys first meeting with Ara]. Anyway, i knew we have kind of been , pen pals, lil bit. You commented a few times you enjoyed my reply,s and even a few lol,s. Now I know its a tall order to determine with just a few online chats,, but do you think I still have it?..[gotit?] Its a book about an alarming, growing trait in human beings. Growing up in the sixties has given me a birds eye view of what I think is the most fundamental changing of the guard in history. I owe a lot to Mrs. Weaks, my english teacher, she put faith in me, and pushed me for the turney. She always told me I see things things. So? do you think I can pull it off? I am in the final stages of a five year exhaustive research, and am about to begin actual work, Any pointers on following your call, would be sincerely appreciated, obviously you clearly have followed yours and made it work [Vandy and all the rest too].. A persons call could be fishing, and he,d still need guidance on how to follow it, dont you think? The local boys asked Max Sledge [Robert Duval] for advice, and he told them, just play it like you feel it!, which I thought was low tech, but solid..... Any thoughts? It was responding to your videos, [not much ever before now] that helped sharpen the butchers knife before slaughter. I even used proper pronunciations for you.....[whew, thats alot for me, ..rough]. Yours very respectfully and sincerely, .......... D D.

    • @tonedr
      @tonedr  6 років тому

      no secrets! He was kind..not gushy but ya know it's kinda his baby:) I felt good about the set overall - it was a lot of work for all - the keys parts, Randy's parts and multiple guitars. No one will ever capture ever nuance of another play but i felt we took a good pass at playing those tunes with their original integrity as we could - that's all we can hope for.

      man, you remind me of the doc apologizing to marty after he built a very elaborate model of the town square but didnt have time to build it to scale or paint it...marty said "its ok doc"....so its ok tone ...let me tell u somethin son ....that skynyrd work is off the charts good and among my llb top favorites...dont change a note....king doesnt appear gushy in any of the countless interviews ive seen..but very tactful,goal oriented but not a stone either...he commented how well music and water go together..that would never grind out of a machine and while i really hate to bring it up....the cat scan of that band after the tragedy is a whos who of whos suin who for who knows what....[llb couldnt have gotten close to any fencelines]...didnt patsy worry that loretta might sing that thing better than her?.....its just for conversation tone....ed kings got no more to worry about than do.......lol.....couldnt copy either 1 of u 100%.. nolol

    I think the I30 edges it for me. Lots more variety and articulation with the P90s and fully hollow body.I don't imagine feedback could really be a concern if you're using a smallish mic'd amp anyway. More comparisons please Dale !

    of course computer laid down ..anyway like i said it was late 70s...it was the highest point of his cowboy stage...think he even bought a dude ranch in texas [whatever that is].....slowhand was still currently in the charts ...so he comes out with a kind of a cowboy look..and played lay down sally..and the boos started...then he did i shot the sheriff ..they were singin i shot the singer...then he did the promises song and it wasnt even the chic on/in the record....and that was it ....seen beers slammed and popcorn in the air.... and by now the boos are really bad ..slowhand turned away ...and stood there with his back turned...and stood there [remember the grand funk/clapton incident]...then turned around and hit the bam ba bam bam ba bam bam of cocaine and i mean loud and the crowd went bat sh--...then he did layla and they were dancin......then some derek/dominoes and they were sparkin doobies....turned out to be a great show..so see why his worshipers say whadya expect..and put their fists down ....then they say good story let me get u a beer ..lol .....got a wild 1 from the moody blues at ruckus 24 or 25 ago..think that 1 made herald leader ..may have time this mornin 4 it..lol
