Charlie Sexton and his Collings SoCo Deluxe

- In this video, our good friend Charlie Sexton took some time out of his European tour schedule with Bob Dylan to sit and chat about his relationship with Collings and his current SoCo Deluxe model.
Charlie reflects on how he first met Bill Collings via custom and modified cars. By the time they got to talking electric guitars, he was already gravitating towards the SoCo Deluxe.
As he explains in the video, Charlie has three SoCo models. This one has Doghair back, sides and neck and a solid black top. It features in over 50 per cent of the current Bob Dylan live show alongside some of his other classic and vintage guitars. ThroBak pickups and 10-52-gauge strings complete the picture.

For those of you who’d like to know, he’s plugged into Two-Rock Studio Pro 35 and Hamstead Artist 20 amps for the playing parts, using a Klon Centaur, Xotic EP Boost and Analogman ARDX 20 delay in various sections. Charlie’s own gear was on stage with Bob Dylan of course!

Had the honor many years ago of meeting Charlie via working on his '49 Merc with Sexton's friend, Mercury Charlie. Sexton was just as laid back and friendly as he is in this vid.... He didn't know me from Adam, but since I was a friend of a friend, he talked to me as if I was a good friend of his. Awesome personality and an absolutely phenomenal guitarist.
This has to be one of the BEST dual humbucker guitars I have heard!... Totally want now!

STRANGE ANECDOTE. I WAS ON A BUS YESTERDAY, AND I WALK ON THE BUS, NYC, AND THIS DUDE IS SITTING IN THE BACK WITH A GUITAR CASE. I have NOT listened to Bob Dylan in almost 50 years, but after this first exposure to Sexton, I can see why he has a steady gig. He has the whole package.
Saw him live in Toronto in the 90s, with DB2 and Double Trouble as ARC Angels. FanTastic.

at lunch w my brother in law today. for an hour all he talked about was Collings guitars...
First time you ever play one after a lifetime of hit or miss with other guitars, you just wonder how everything is so perfect on them. I've had 7 on them. In order to get one that wasn't perfect, a prior owner had to file the nut slot low following instructions for an add on trem without understanding what he was doing or why.
Wow I want to hear him rip out the guitar solo from Sunday Clothes on that beautiful guitar!
hes the band leader when Austin has big benefit or award shows Will is pretty good too. i met his mom in my schlotskys on south congress one on her way to work one day. She would brag about Charlie and Will and was an angel to talk too, Good Austin

I am as far from an elitist as you can get an I play a Soco Deluxe because it is just that amazing. So versatile and perfect for everything. I wont touch any of my Gibsons while this guitar is in my collection.
Nice guitar but most Les Paul copies are nice. I own two real Gibson's and have no use for rip offs.
+Kevin Moore It's a guitar that's obviously influenced by Gibsons I'd say, but certainly not a LP copy given that it's semi!
+Kevin Moore I own a Gibson Les Paul Standard, a Gibson Howard Roberts, and one of these Collings SoCo's... the Collings destroys both Gibson's. Gibson's have not left their case in a year.
Gibson is every place because they are the best! I only see Fender and Gibson on the stages played by the greats! Never Collings, I know of them but it is another Les Paul copy.
+Kevin Moore - Budweiser sells a LOT of beer, not because it's good (it's dreadful swill) but because they spend BANK on advertising. Fender and Gibson make many fine instruments, but also invest heavily in advertising and image-making. Many makers produce instruments every bit as good, if not better than theirs. A lot of instruments you see on stage may LOOK like Fenders or Gibsons, but they're actually made by others. Collings have a stellar rep - have for years...
I'm not sure how you think that a semi hollow body guitar is a copy of a Les Paul guitar. That doesn't make a lot of sense. I also don't agree that just because you see Fenders and Gibsons everywhere that makes them the "best". I see more Kias than I do Ferraris but that hardly means that the Kia is a better car.
Not to say that your opinion is wrong but given that you haven't even played the Collings I don't see how you could comment on what is better.
