I enjoyed your video. I've played Starfleet Battles since the 80's and it's always nice to see a 'real life' battle that relates well to the game. Well done! :)

Excellent! Nice compliment to TOS. I think the blue compliments TOS while acknowledging the special effects style in film versions. That photon sound...that was my favorite effects sound as a kid. Borrowed from G. Pal's "War o' Worlds." Come to think of it...the energy scanner sound was from the same movie (the hiss-n-rattle sound when the Martians scan/search). Keep it up.

That's so awesome. Love the CG work on the TOS Connie she looks lovely :). In a way I think Star Trek was very much ahead of it's time. The things they could do for the effects even just in the late 70's to 80's could have made such a difference. I remember looking at the original TOS episodes with the shaking models etc and now with the remastered versions it looks so sweet :).

Thank you!!! I just downloaded Blender for my Ubuntu installation and am already doing very basic stuff - I'm not much of an artist, but it's awesome to see some of my thoughts come to life.
I'll almost certainly never get to your level, but I can do stuff that I've wanted to see for years!

In the original TOS, Balance of Terror, the Romulan Warbird fired a very powerful plasma torpedo that was able to destroy bases. The weapon seemed to be less effective and less powerful the longer it stayed out. When it fired at the Enterprise, she was avoid it long enough that it did not destroy her. There was a board game, called SFB - Star Fleet Battles - used the Romulan Plasma Torpedo as a missile type weapon and not as fast as a direct fire weapon like a phaser or photon torpedoes.

Great rendering -- great meshes into ships.
Next time -- and this is your 'Director Friend' flapping his gums here: Please consider having some texture to space. Not just stars. The NASA sites -- and many others have HD images of a ton of Galaxies, Novas, etc. It would most certainly be some 'eye candy' and you can make the BG work within the battle.
Also, there would be some DEBRIS left over from the Bird of Prey -- yes? In fact, it -- again -- could be part of the storyline. Bouncing off the Enterprise's shields -- parting the Red Sea, so to speak.
    Otherwise. Kudos!

@CJCA915 That's right! :) The "warp nacelles" on the TOS Klingon D-7 weren't actually warp nacelles either, they were weapons pods (where the ship fired from). The hole in the front of the Klingon D-7 wasn't a torpedo launcher, either, it was a sensor dish (like the sensor dish - NOT deflector dish - on the front of the Enterprise). There's a lot of things people get wrong with TOS ships...

I see the effort and love that went into this piece of art. I do have an observation to state. The In "Balance of Terror", the Romulans had a plasma based pulse cannon that, when the Enterprise first encountered and was hit while in full reverse, the ship took a pretty solid hit. You may wish to redo do the plasma weapon effect on the Enterprise to be a spectacular light blast around and camera shake. Just my thoughts, and I think your effort was absolutely amazing!!!

    Hey Chris...
Had to watch, and enjoy most of you tos reworks to remember the warp effect, 0:37 the Enterprise jumps to warp, the stars abd the effect and colour base are the effect I am after,,, Great stuff... Plus I have many models of voyager, but you have one with good textures blobvandam, any ideas where to get it,

    • @ChrissonatorOFL
      @ChrissonatorOFL  10 років тому

What I did was use a particle system, blizzard (I think) and instanced a cylinder, then applied a gradient ramp map to the particles...
His model isn't public, in fact, I think I'm the only one he's shared it with.

  • @Spud13ify

@CJCA915 Great work. My take on the standard ordinance torpedoes is that the immensly powerful plasma bolts took too much energy from other systems so they scrappped them and used the power towards propulsion and shields. Considering that they only had impulse drive when they first met in "Balance Of Terror."

You've done a pretty good job. When they remastered the original, I would have thought they'd have given the outer hull a bit more Aztec patterns to give it a bit more life. As for the flybys, battle scenes and warp jumps. I would have done them exactly how you did it

I had guessed as much but the effect you achieve is brilliant, I will experiment but im guessing your cylinder and color variant are the key... I see blobvandam is over ad the sci fi meshes, I may see if he is up to working out something but i have plenty to do here with this now... if you manage to find the size and colour base for the gradient please let me know... Keep up the good work...

I am involved with a large production value Star Trek TOS fan film. We have started the production to honor the 25th anniversary of the original Star Trek series. We desperately need volunteers for our post production and Visual Effects team.
I was looking around at some of the people who have been doing Star Trek work, and your videos caught my eye. If you have some free time to donate to the project, we would love to work with you.

@CJCA915 Yes, 1954 (I think). I believe it won an Oscar for best special effects. Anyway, in the episode "Elaan of Troyius," Spock has a hand-held energy scanner that makes that "hissing rattle" sound (from War of the Worlds) when he scans the queen's necklace. I just finished watching that episode, I'm stuck in a snow storm, off work, and have been on a Star Trek "bender" this morning.
