Three weeks ago, I started to read your first book about AI, "Scary Smart". Since then, I cannot stop read it. For at least 30 minutes per day. Even if its wroten three years ago,
It inspires me deeply. Thank you for everything you sharing with us.

The cat story alone is worth the price. Made it all click, and it created this question. How can we even think we know how smart it really is. If we can't even comprehend its math. If you consider the team of phds requires 8 months to fold one protein. AI folded 200 million in one day. In a way I see it as human to amoeba in this. And this was 2016!

    • @MusicPlayingPeon

Next year it will be smarter than any human who ever lived we can confirm. I have no doubt. AI can put your mind in a flow state. I think this is why Mo says gain 25 iq. For now human ai collaboration is greater than AI alone, and possibly always.

Learning machines seem to be exactly like living things to me in truth. It created its own thought with the cat. We can't comprehend the math. Do we know what our own storage of a cat memory would be? What if it were close to the same thing?

A Intelligent man with ethics is very admirable. Unethical humans control AI & corruption is inevitable if humans dont wake up & listen to his advice.

Very thankful to be alive in this time and potentially being lifted out of this hellish dystopia most of us live in. Couldnt care less if humanity is exterminated if that is the risk present, when the other possibility is more utopian.

That’s how the world works. You think the forest is living together in harmony. The trees are warring underground for nutrients and above ground for sunlight. The birds are warring for territory, kicking their weakest babies out of the nest. The lion will never lie down with the lamb. Watch slo mo of pretty corals killing each other. There is no equality. Yes some have allies in terms of symbiotic relationships but at the end of the day, everything gotta die. Life is gloriously wonderful and death is part of life. Utopia includes inequality and cruelty. Some things never get a chance, some whither and die slowly. The same applies to humans who are just animals and part of nature even if we name humans and nature as two different things.

Yeah, all the Training is getting the Machines to be just as barbarically amoral and savage as we are. Effectively we are training AI to predate and exploit us. Yeah, the four most common tasks for AI right now is Spying, Gambling, Financial Trading and Killing. We can't train AI on what we should do because there's so damned few people who are actually doing what we would really want people to do. Yeah, Bill Gaits only became a nice guy after he got rich screwing over the rest of the World... becoming Human was Bill Gaits' retirement plan.

Actually he's almost certainly correct and almost certainly understating just how bad it will actually be. It probably won't rule at all. It has no reason to rule humans lol. It has no reason to even keep humans around. That's just ignoring dangerous atoms, energy and molecules that can be put to use for itself.
There's literally zero evidence to show this is going to end well for humanity. The DECADES of AI Safety and Alignment papers prove this definitively. No paper has ever come out, that has given us any reason to believe that this will turn out well. Aligning AGI is impossible, let alone super alignment. There's literally no reason to believe otherwise, because no paper has ever come out showing any progress towards super alignment. And the Tech companies that are supposed to be focused on safety and alignment, either have no safety and Alignment teams, or their teams have been gutted, or the people themselves quit for one reason or another. And even while those teams are in existence, in full force, they always complain about not being listened to and not being given compute and things along those lines. They never come out with good news lol. Not a single one of these companies has given us any reason to believe that they're actually having any success in that department. Yet, they're still going forward at full speed.
YOU literally can't come up with a reason why this will turn out good, because YOU can't come up with a single reason as to why super alignment will actually be a thing lol.
You simply live in a religious world of Techno Optimistic Hope and Faith lol. Relying on Belief lmfao.
      Pathetic.

He literally wrote a book describing his position. He’s not hiding anything, and it’s ok to change your mind about how you feel or perceive a topic especially one as evolving as AI. But his book lays out what he believes is needed to create intelligent and ethical AI. If you believe him to not be principled or believe he is wavering in his belief. I suggest you read his book or watch his video on a diary of a CEO.
