When exposing for flash on Sony bodies you can assign “Shot Result Preview” to a custom key and hold the key to display your ambient lighting when you don’t want to see the live preview. Manny Ortiz just mentioned it in one of his videos for setting up a Sony for portraits.
I dig these flash tutorials. I don’t know how to use flash at all, i just found what works and stuck to it. I didn’t think about the ambient light. I hate the wet plastic look flash can give, so I put some masking tape over the flash to diffuse, and bumped the Kelvin to match the light temp. Works for me, but it sure looks dumb.
Dude! You're the man! This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! I particularly appreciate your walkthrough of the Sony menu...yep, they need to make that a little more intuitive. Thank you!
FYI - if you have a flash made for Sony (like Flashpoint with TTL), you don't need to worry about live mode turning off...the camera knows and does it for you
Thanks for another great Sony tutorial Manny Ortiz.... erm.. I mean Omar! You should do a color science video between Sony, Canon, and Fuji. It would prove nothing and probably not change anyone’s minds but still interesting to see what this “color science” difference is between companies and if it’s a big deal.
Hi! this is very informative, helps a lot, thank you very much. Just a few questions though: How did you change the preview button to the shutter button? i can't for the life of me figure that out 😀 and which focus area do you use for shooting events? Thanks a ton 😃
maybe a stupid question... but I will ask it anyway. Is there a way to use this flash with the a7riii wirelessly? I know there is wireless flash setting on the camera and it seems like the flashpoint flash has receiver settings, but is this only for when you have a TTL flash attached to the camera as a master? For what it's worth, the Flashpoint flash I have says it's "for Sony".
I have a Sony a7III but being a new beginner I accidentally bought Godox V1C and had no idea that it supposed to be Godox V1S. Can I still shoot with it? If yes, what type of trigger to buy? TIA

I use my trusty old Canon 450D and my 5DMKII with Pixel King transmitter and two receivers. It´s amazing how easy to control the flash power, wireless set-up directly from the camera menu. Why Sony is not having such a simple menu like Canon cameras from more than 12 years old. I recently bought the A 6400 and it´s amazing for some things but so bad on others(like flash system set-up). I saw hundreds of Sony tutorials and nobody talks about it! Maybe you´ll think about making a real tutorial. best all, Remus
Are there ANY flashes that are equal to yongnuo 968? that work on sony a7iii? i mean working with af beam assist, synchro, can trigger and change other's flashes settings wirelessly?
Hey Omar, loving the flash content, I was actually just looking for a tutorial when you dropped your Fuji video. Could you possibly make a video about getting rid of that "flash look" more in depth? I shoot a lot of events and try to avoid flash like the plague because I hate the look but sometimes f2.8 on my poor little xt2 isn't enough for just using ambient. Help!
Good idea. There tons of videos on BOUNCE flash, if you search that. Do you see how the flash is positioned at the start of the video? Back and right? Start with that. You'll get beautiful lighting! (If you are in a room with white walls). I use a rogue flashbender and shoot up when I need to be mobile! Good luck.

Center if you need to shoot specific people etc. Turn off face when it gets dark...no worth it. Also, shoot f2.8 and lower for better focus hits.
Thanks for this tutorial. Do you know if the Canon 600RT II will also work similarly? And will multiple units work via radio transmit? (I just got the Sony 7RIV)
