Wow thank you for that nice comment! I keep telling myself to make the video like how you tell your friends how to use the photography gears since I’m always sharing that with my buddies. So cool you caught that!
The explanation of how bouncing light is like playing pool helped so much. Always struggled with how to position my flash so it bounces properly, but makes total sense now and I'm eager to get my next flash gig to test it out in real-time!
If you have nothing to bounce the light, you can always go wireless and remove the flash off the camera and hold it at 45degrees with one hand and take a photo with the other. This works and is better than straight on flash!
That is my favorite thing to do also and I’ll also be making a tutorial on that as well since it’s a different kind of flash technique. Everyone should definitely learn that. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Kiya for letting me know. There’s a link at the end of the video where I use the speedlight with a remote to get creative off camera flash photos so check it out.
Nice tutorial! In case anyone is still confused, I always do: Method 1: shutter speed: 1/200, match your ISO and flash power, adjust aperture to your liking. Method 2: I start my my shutter at 1/200, aperture at f/4, ISO at 400, and flash at 1/16. Too dark? Raise your ISO to 800. Cheers!
I’m so thankful that I came across this video. I had to shoot an indoor event today and I always faced issues with the lighting. Today was the first time that I ever used an external flash and I made use of the ceiling bounce light method, and it was truly a game changer. Nobody is ever gonna believe that I shot the pictures with a eos1300d 😂. Many thanks for sharing your tutorial ❤
Your comment is one of the nicest message I have ever had. It’s all about sharing your knowledge and helping others grow and you getting the photo you love just made my day. Keep up the great work Sam!

Wow Laura, thank you so much for the kind comment. That definitely gets me. Excited to keep doing what I’m doing. I have a video that I’m editing now that will show how to take sunset photos with a couple using your speed light.
Solid video man. Everything is explained simply and makes so much sense. And the idea of thinking about the flash as playing pool is something that I'll keep in mind forever
I LOVED this !So well done! I have done 500 wedding back in the day and everything you said was how I shot weddings .. all my old old flashes are dead so I just got the Godox and needed this ,as I am doing a wedding this weekend ! sooo thanks
Thanks for pointing that out. I feel like not many people know about the reverse bounce which to me is the best looking bounce. Thanks Paul for your comment.
Nice tips. I would add from my experience, when everything is too dark around to bounce, use mini softbox or dome on straight flash shots. Makes them a bit softer. Also sometimes in this situations I use off camera option, just holding the flash with my left hand to the side and angled down. It looks nicer, but the trade off is you only have one hand to operate the camera.
That off camera is the best! My next photography flash video is going to be all about strobe photography. It deserves its own video. Thanks for sharing Michael!
I made mini softbox from white eva foam and added black foam outside, looks almost professional, and difuses light good. When there is no ceiling to bounce the light off, it works.
Shout-outs to you for this video. I just got back from a Golf tournament and I used a speedlight at the reception hall. I was always reluctant to use a flash, but your tutorial helped me understand how to use it efficiently and it level up'd my game. Much appreciated!
Alex! Thanks buddy! This video had no traction 6 months ago after just 10k view but for some reason youtube was nice enough to let it soar and it’s gotten 40k view this week! So interesting how UA-cam does that. It’s like the UA-cam AI Gods decided to bless me this week for not giving up 😂
Thanks for the detailed and friendly tutorial. Godox V1 is at a different level. Leaving aside all the features which come along with the strobe what leaves me speechless is the battery. Once you charge it fully it forgets to drain. It keeps on firing just like that. Really a wonderful flash.
@@CameraToFreedom Can I ask something. In your opinion better stuff for wedding and photos outside is Nikon D750 or D810? Im not sure which one I should buy 🤔?
I’ve owned both for a long time. Save your money and buy the mirrorless. I have the lowest one Z6 and it’s so amazing for both photos and video. Main points of the explanation: The first technique is bounce flash, which involves bouncing the flash off the ceiling or wall to create soft lighting. The second technique is straight forward flash, which involves directing the flash directly at the subject. Use the TTL mode on the flash for automatic settings that make it easier to achieve proper lighting. When using flash during daylight, TTL can also help reduce overly dark shadows. Choose a flash with high-speed sync feature to adjust for high shutter speeds when using flash during the day. The Flashpoint Godox also has a wireless transmission system that allows for remote control of flash power.
Good video - enjoyed it. Just one comment. The explanation of bounce at the beginning was good because people assume that they need to angle the flash forward 45 degrees etc which is wrong as you said. An easier explanation of where to point the flash is simply say "Point the flash to the point where you would have wanted the light source to be (typically just behind and above you)....

You welcome and thank you for letting me know! Flash is hard to make it look natural since it is unnatural light but you can still make it look nice and most of my photos are with the flash.
Hello Myong, nice to greet you, first of all a warm greeting from the city of Mexicali, Baja California. Mexico. Today I was fortunate to find your video and it has made it clear to me how to work with the flash in situations in which I always feel insecure about working, normally I don't take photos of events such as weddings or other types of celebrations such as the famous XV years of the ladies and for the same reason that due to the lack of experience it is not something that I usually do because I work more in the studio and some outdoors, but in closed events I have not done it for years. Anyway, I'll tell you that your video (and despite the fact that I'm not very good at speaking English) has made it more than clear to me how or how to work with flash, now I just need to put it into practice and see if I learned it in theory I can take it to actual practice. You have a very clear way of explaining without so much thinking about things that it is easy to keep up with the information. Thank you very much again and we keep in touch.
