Joseph's pick of a line on how 'she' knows what she knows' - allayed my initial 'fear' this was all too fantastic! "😂Methinks, the 'baby' blooming here could possibly be a "reincarnation" of her Mother! This song came to mind...I love you just way you are" and, "Don't go changing, to try and please me.." i loved this film as well...! ooh you forgot to mention the scene where bella finds out she was pregnant from the scar on her stomach...also i usually adore Mark Ruffalo; he did a great job portraying a sleaseball!
Godwins playing God the creator. Bella leaves “gods” heaven after putting the apple on her lips the other one. She has (Envy) of people living in the world and goes and learns about life and the 7 sins. She wants to eat all the pastries (gluttony) then later in the act she comes back to the hotel room from exploring the world and says its “nothing but sugar and violence.” Temperance. The dancing scence she deals with (Anger) wanting to punch the baby. By the end of the scene she learns the virtue meekness having patience with the conversation with the other couple. Carmichaels character teaches her about (Greed) of the world and the struggles of the poor world. Thats when she gives the money away practicing generosity. Learns about (Lust) in the Brothel. She avoids the life of (Sloth) with her husband and decides to do the Diligence and follow in gods path. Her (Pride) is why she leave Godwins in the first place and at the she returns to Gods home having Humility

I waited to see this on New Years Eve and I’m so glad I did. Perfect way to start the new year! I love all your reviews, they’re the only ones I watch now that I’ve discovered you two! One thing about this film I do disagree on is Jerrod Carmichael. I’ve seen all his stand up and I’m definitely a fan of his and the main thing in all of them is his cynicism and negativity which I think was ideal for his part. And as Joseph commented he wanted his part to be a gay male character which, how do we know he wasn’t? They never showcase his sexuality and he’s much like Jerrod in real life, a gay man not announcing or parading himself, knowing the world isn’t safe for everyone. I thought it was a delight seeing him. As for everything else I agree completely with this review! This movie was a pleasure to watch!!! Everyone played their mf part! Keep doing your thing! These reviews bring me so much comfort and happiness somehow! ❤️🔥
Shot out to OG Crystal Gale!! Nick you are ...I have words...like the cool Wikipedia 😎 just dropping gems ....😂😂 Joan Rivers would have loved that dig I think, Joseph. 😂
On your comment on the Carmichael character... i think it was the point for him to be a bit jarring. He was speaking about the truth of life and how things di suck and seldom really change. Particularly as a man of colour this seems to me even more poignant. Everyone else speaks to Bella like a child or plaything or something to analyze. He was a blunt guy but honest and he showed her the depths of despair. I loved that part. I think it was key to what Bella achieved in the end. Anyhow you guys are great..love the reviews.
after seeing this movie tonight I can safely say it’s amazing the camera work is beyond incredible I love the plot and set designs as well as the costumes
I've already heard takes from pearl-clutching prudes complaining both about the amount of sex in the film, and that it's "romanticising paedophilia". Like, seriously 😂
I've not seen this so genuine question - how many years on after the brain is put in her mums body does she start getting sexual? Might be a bit weird if it is less than 16 years!
If the appeal of this movie is that it's supposed to be offensive to "pearl clutching prudes" because of its "stunning and brave sex positivity," it's probably going to suck. Would this film have any appeal if people you hate weren't criticizing it for whatever reason? Because this director's previous films are basically the avant garde for midwits.
Is it insanity?? @TechnicJunglist I'm not a prude at all but I don't want to to see a baby in a woman's body having sex repeatedly with grown men - the way people love it so much and say its about sexual liberation does seem like its glorifying it, I can't get my head around so many people loving it! The story is horrible. I love disturbing when it's acknowledged it is wrong and disturbing, not seen as positive, it's just so horrible!
Just came to find this video after watching y'all's favorites of the year video - I had to make sure the "one actor" you were talking about was Jerrod Carmichael. I felt exactly the same way. It was really off-putting. I do agree though that Yorgos must have noticed the same thing we're noticing, but liked it.. or even directed him that way. Love your reviews!
Finally saw it, I didn't expect to like this movie, but it was very interesting and the acting was amazing! I'm looking forward to buy the bluray to see some bonus content Great review as usual guys 😍
People say that it’s weird because she’s supposed to be a infant and Kid. But I think people forget that it’s a movie and I think they would cram 30 years in 2hrs instead. I think she mentally developed much quicker than reality. If she didn’t then the scene where she sees the lowest class wouldn’t have affected her as much.
@@LifeOfJakoby54was the baby brain transplant to the mother’s head or was there some electric transfer of minds? I can’t remember. But the fact that the brain was in a grown adults body probably made growing up faster.
I'd argue that she ends the film as a well-read, sexually-experienced teen. In the scene you referenced, she responds as a child would to the revelation of human suffering and has a child-like solution for it. She does "age" rapidly throughout the film, but she is most definitely a child when she first has sex with the Ruffalo character. Deriving pleasure from sexual contact doesn't make someone an adult, after all. I mean...what adult gets into a trunk just because they're bluntly told to?

I watched the first few minutes of this review a while back to see what you both thought, then turned it off so I could go watch it in the cinema. I loved it. It was a beautiful film! Kept me enraptured the whole time. Mark Ruffalo was doing a lot, and I ate it all up. I think you make a good point about the Harry Astley character though! Thanks for a good recommendation.

What's your take on how Felicity (Bella 2.0) serves the movie? McNamara had to condense and erase so much, yet he ADDED this character to Dr. Godwin's household. ???
I think Felicity was a narrative device to show the audience that Candles and Godwin thought Bella was gone for good. It shows the loss that they were feeling.
I know the story has taboo stuffs but thru the taboo the humanity rises above. I want to cry. To me sex stuffs is taboo but i can recognize the truth of humanity
Hi Gents!! Any chance that you will be reviewing Hayao Miyazaki's latest animated film "The Boy and the Heron"? I am planning on going to an early matinee tomorrow a.m. - I am quite excited! I have only seen one other Miyazaki film ("Howl's Moving Castle") and really enjoyed it's message, story and characters!
I liked this film a lot, but I didn't love it. I thought it was absolutely gorgeous, but I didn't think all of the actors or the editing lived up to the script's comedy. The rhythm of the humor was sometimes very off for me . There were performers and entire exchanges that didn't mine the laugh lines for all they were worth. Also, Mark Ruffalo was doing the most and I didn't think it always worked. As for the two comedians, Jerrod Carmichael was pretty bad and poorly lit in his closeup(they never light Black people properly in movies that aren't about Black people...). Ramy Yourseff was wonderful and he always knew how to deliver the joke. After Emma Stone, he might be my favorite performance.
If terry Gilliam directed under the skin….. this reminds me of Swiss army man too in how unlike lobster and sacred deer where lanthimos clearly is somewhat judging his characters and almost is wallowing in their nihilism… jn poor things and making Swiss army man connection is that yes it’s silly it’s wierd what some would call “dumb” but it EMBRACES it so much and loves its characters and Emma stone and lanthimos ….. please be the next deniro scorsese I know it’s only two films now but they just finished a third one so let’s keep jt going
The Harry Astley character comes from Dostoyevsky's The Gambler, and in Gray's novel is meant to be disorientating. The Dostoyevsky character is very sympathetic, almost in an Anglophile way, while in Gray's novel it's like a commentary on the moral emptiness of English charm, and the vileness and sadism which underpins the 'upper classes': Perfidious Albion.
Have any of you read the book before watching this film which it’s based on by the Scottish author? Only problem with this film is it’s not set in Glasgow with Scottish actors though not much you can do
To those who are claiming that the script is inherently creepy, while watching I found her to be a more apt representation for neurodivergent individuals rather than an actual child in an adults body
Mark acted a pure fool and I loved every minute of it. His spiraling while chiding her to not fall in love with him, hilarious (😂) Il loved how as she gained more world intelligence or choice, Ruffalo wants to control her more. There was a brief moment once knowing she has an infant brain in a woman's body it was not lost on me at how extremely pleased Mark is with her to be "dumb & beautiful just for sex" and how it makes him feel like he's TEACHING HER everything. Made me go "they [the writers] were being very honest here, was it intentional? Would Dafoe's character be both the doctor and the monster...in some measure, with him being unaware? If the doctor never abandoned the monster, wouldn't it had always loved him, the same as Dafoe's character loves his father?
I'm the twenty-first person to view this video. AWESOME! I was close to being the first. That being said I'm excited to see this film. Everyone is giving it amazing reviews. Also Willem Dafoe needs to win an Oscar.
I liked the movie. I think they spend too much time at the whorehouse though and I got the point halfway through and some of the scenes just became excessive. Ending was perfect though. I enjoyed this very whacky movie and glad Emma won an Oscar for it.
The whore house in paris part coulda been ALOT shorter and less detailed. It was cringy. And I lost respect for the character honestly. I found myself warning candles not to marry her.
I just watched tis film. Love Emma Stone as a actor. The skit on S.N .L meet yoou.in the ladies room was hilarious by Klyaxx is iconic. Her all naked in this i was like dammn. And.to see her talk so seriously about this role and sets. Et. Gurrl w seenyo everything. The extras that simulated certain acts , i was like crings. If Courtney love played that part. Honestly guys I would have probably passed on this movie if not for your amazing review and now I'm really totally Psyched to see this film now thanks guys for your review 🤗
Love you. Can't wait for this movie.
So pertinent, as many smart movies are these days, hmmm, maybe the turning of Roe? IMHO. Spectacular Film
I was hoping for a perfect 5… 4.5 still pretty good
I adore the book by Alasdair Gray and this adaptation was exquisite.
Have you reviewed The Book of Clarence? I just saw a screening last night. Would love to hear your opinion.
This is my fave film of the year! 10 outta ten! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👌🏼👌🏼❤️❤️❤️Book is better as always but this film close! Also Nick brilliant pull quote! Thanks guys!!! 😊much love and respect
You guys are just awesome
What's your take on how Felicity (Bella 2.0) serves the movie? McNamara had to condense and erase so much, yet he ADDED this character to Dr. Godwin's household. ???
I think Felicity was a narrative device to show the audience that Candles and Godwin thought Bella was gone for good. It shows the loss that they were feeling.
I loved this movie. Probably my favorite of 2023. I will for sure see this again. Looking forward to it at awards season
I know the story has taboo stuffs but thru the taboo the humanity rises above. I want to cry. To me sex stuffs is taboo but i can recognize the truth of humanity
Thanks! I Enjoy you guys! Entertaining and informative! 🎞️🍿❤️
Thank you!
Watched this movie today - it was bonkers but I loved it. Came straight here for your review.
*Little book.* 😄😄😄
Loved your review and not meaning to sound rude but being from the same city as Mark Ruffalo his last name is Pronounced Ruf a low and not Roof a low.

Who do you think might have been a better fit for the Jerrod Carmichael role? I could see Stephen McKinley Henderson in that role.
The madam needs a best supporting nom
Poor things going to win Oscars when goes to Disney Plus it going to be big hit.
Have any of you read the book before watching this film which it’s based on by the Scottish author? Only problem with this film is it’s not set in Glasgow with Scottish actors though not much you can do
Sounds like the Oscar winner then
Over "Oppenheimer"?
To those who are claiming that the script is inherently creepy, while watching I found her to be a more apt representation for neurodivergent individuals rather than an actual child in an adults body
Dogtooth is my absolute favorite Yorgos film. Can't wait for this one. I'll come back when I'm done watching it.
If the doctor never abandoned the monster, wouldn't it had always loved him, the same as Dafoe's character loves his father?
man what did the goat do
This movie was amazing! Its quite an adventure everything is perfect in this movie. I think this is favorite movie this year❤❤❤
Was it revenge or was it allowing the general to live while not being dangerous?
The movie sounds absolutely amazing
I actually liked Jerrod Carmichael character. Keith David could have played that character too.
I'm the twenty-first person to view this video. AWESOME! I was close to being the first. That being said I'm excited to see this film. Everyone is giving it amazing reviews. Also Willem Dafoe needs to win an Oscar.
Joan Rivers! 😂😂😂
Carmichael took me wayyy out.
Fantastic director
🌺
I liked the movie. I think they spend too much time at the whorehouse though and I got the point halfway through and some of the scenes just became excessive. Ending was perfect though. I enjoyed this very whacky movie and glad Emma won an Oscar for it.
I am happy to announce that my daughter also loved this (24 y.o.). I’m glad she’s into weirdness with a message about women’s liberation lol!
The whore house in paris part coulda been ALOT shorter and less detailed. It was cringy. And I lost respect for the character honestly. I found myself warning candles not to marry her.
It was cringy because you’re a prude.
Why didn't she put Godwin's brain in her husband?
I think out of respect… but the path they chose is hilarious
seems he had accepted his death and was ready to go.
I think I could realte. 😂 Just a queer saying I didn't need to see Emmas Va Ja Yj Ay that much. Im like hi mom we're on the red carpet premiere of my new picture 😮 lol😅 LOOK WHAT I CAN DO
