    They steer the worms by pulling back the scales which exposes the soft inner flesh to the corse sand. This causes the worm to turn and rotate so the exposed flesh is at the top, thus minimizing any irritation.

    Haven't seen it yet, but I don't care about spoilers for a 60yr old book. I'm here for this couple

  • @wjamimah7772
    @wjamimah7772 10 місяців тому +30

    So in the book they actually can steer the worms with the 2 tiny little hooks. When they pull the ring segments open the worm won’t go under the sand because they don’t want sand inside those segments. So if they wanted the worm to turn they move down the rings and the worm will turn. Usually they’ll ride the worms to exhaustion so it’s easy to dismount them because they become placid then. In the book they do explain it’s harder to get off if the worm isn’t ridden to exhaustion. 💜

    • @wjamimah7772
      @wjamimah7772 10 місяців тому +3

      Generally they only choose worm for transportation if they want to go long distances. They often refer to “20 thumper journeys”. Usually they wouldn’t summon a worm just to ride a few blocks.

    • @Tony_Pesta

      In the book they explain that the worms just get tired eventually and bring themselves to a stop. It's unclear if that means you have to ride the worm all day until it gets tired or if there is an easier way to dismount lmao

    Dune is not for everyone, so props for reading it. I admit I was never a fan (I read the first book and that was enough). It is very weird but admit this version kind of figured out how to do it where people are not hopelessly lost, which is what sunk the first one in the 1980's. The visuals are amazing and I actually could get what it was about just from watching the movie, which is a huge accomplishment.

    They live in the sietches like we saw in the movie, their lives are mostly survival, the desert leaves little else for them. They're a warrior people, so they train both males and females survival and fighting young. This is what's given in the books so you see how necessary a green world is to make their lives easier, better. The books, like history, focus on the royals and nobles, and pay pittance to the proles, but know the Fremen are great and noble people. I'm personally not a fan of the films, so I'm not defending it.
    On and David Lynch's shield is kinda cool, there's footage where someone put the old shields in the 2021 movie and it's looked great.

    The sandworms have scales, when the Fremen jump on the sandworms, they pull up the scales with hooks, causing irritation to the sandworms. The Fremen control the sandworms, by how much they pull up on the scales.

    Joseph you make a good point of not getting a sense of life in Arrakis, as in what they are fighting for in Arrakis, i guess mainly its because most movies or stories with strong Orthodox themes as subject matter turn to shape characters the same, i mean fremens in Dune hardly ever show range of individualism, they come across as the same, therefore limiting us to how they react to their surroundings, Love ur review guys and i Love the movie

    I enjoyed it. They spent too much time on Paul learning to fit in with the Fremen and most fights went on too long. In the book this happened over a couple years. They could have just jumped ahead.
    They completely omitted Count Fenring, a character who was a sterile dead end of the same breeding program. The emperor wanted him to kill Paul after Feyd failed, and Fenring refuses because of the quiet scorn he has felt snd his kinship with Paul. Thufir is completely absent. In the book, Alia, the little sister is a small child and poisons the Baron. The people kill Rabban(Batista) rather than Gurney(Brolin). The Water of Life is condensed and altered spice excreted from a dead little maker (baby worm).
    Feyd is Rabban's brother. The plan originally was for Rabban to be very brutal to th locals and when Feyd took control and was less oppressive, the people would love him for being less oppressive.

    Thank you for the realistic review and rating. I agree with the 3.5/5 rating. Yes, the film looks and sounds spectacular....truly an epic achievement in film-making which I think is somewhat clouding a number of issues with the film. The biggest being the pacing....too much time is spent with Paul in the dessert learning the ways/falling in love/etc. which then made the last half (and especially the last quarter) feel very rushed which is unfortunate as there is far more information to convey in that part of the film. The film was 30 minutes too long, Denis loves to linger on beautiful images and revisit flash-backs/visions (again and again) which obviously looks great but it eats up time and kills momentum and pacing....this was the same issue he had with Blade Runner 2049. There were a number of plot-holes or questionable editing choices where scenes were cut off or not followed through. More micro criticisms....Chalamet under-acts and then over-acts, as an actor he needs to find more of a balance...Zendaya over-did the anger in many scenes, esp the end....Bautista's acting was very poor....Walken was mis-cast and pulled us out of the film.

    My sister in law watched Dune 2 (at my urging) and she didn’t know Dune from Star Wars and she still liked it.

    I saw it today. It was visually stunning, but kinda hard to keep up with all of the characters and plot points. I was like, now what happened now? And i thought that zendaya's character name was johnny. Lol

    David Lynch’s Dune is camp I swear. I actually did a “toe in” of 1984’s Dune! My friend was managing editor of Cinefantastique back in the 80’s so I had a hook up.

    I haven't read the books so I don't know how he's portrayed there, but in the film, the emperor is a patethic character. (Leaving aside it's Christopher Walken playing...Christopher Walken) my issue was there was nothing regal about him, nothing that showed power, nothing thst showed fear or respect! He didnt even have servants. He looked like a lonely old man in an old folks home getting a weekend visit from his daughter!
