Cigars with Sakarians and Dukes for a martini I met you while on my way to London...I think it was in Chicago . About 1 ½ years ago. If you aren't willing to spend $700 for a concave pencil point then you are missing the value propostion on offer here. If you sharpen 700 pencils then that actually works out at $1 per concave pencil point which I'm sure you all agree is superb value. Ordered a few of these for friends and acquantinces for Xmas. They make the perfect stocking filler.
After hearing about this El Casco cigar cutter a handful of times now, I'm convinced! Definitely going to acquire one and see how it elevates my cigar smoking experience. Cheers; always love the videos!
Obviously, pencil sharpener isn't particularly practical for most people these days. However, it is a magnificent souvenir. If put on some vintage style shelf, will look amazing and unique. It's not a traditional Lalique crystal fish, that every second expensive house has.
My only problem with cutters that don't let you cut past a certain point is they all take off way too much. I was taught to take no more than the width of a dime off. This cutter takes off the entire cap.
I know a lot of things are expensive, but men. I kinda understand why Kirby love this things so much. Please help me Kirby, but its a personal thought. "Modern technology makes some things simpler and easier, but the technology of the industrial revolution makes it more intimate and personal" u can buy a 0.25 pencil sharpener, or use a knife or whatever its fine, u can pay spotify to listen your music, or you can buy a vinyl record and play it. If you like something so much you always will be seeking and peeking for the good and real stuff.
Hey Kirby, as someone who is somewhat new to the world of Cigars (year maybe), I have been wanting to experience the oh so famous Cuban lol. Sadly as im sure you experienced, as someone who lives in the US thats dang near impossible. Would you be able to recommend some good alterative that in your opinion, gave you the same or similar taste as a good Cuban? My go to cigars are currently the Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Real, if that helps any. Thanks Alan
There are ways to get Cubans in the U.S. 😉 But it can be tricky. Comparable New World cigars try some different sticks from Davidoff, Opus X (Fuente), and Padron. But tastes differ so best to try different things and find your favorites.

I know you didn't ask me, and I am not military (Marine Corps wouldn't take me due to back issues), but from what I understand, the metal itself is exclusive to its value and how well/long it holds its value, appreciates, depreciated, etc. If you are looking for something that retains it's value, check what precious metals are currently holding or raising in value and base your purchase on that. If you are looking for an heirloom quality piece, check manufacturer reviews, warranty terms etc. See how long the company has been in business and check to see if you can find their older pieces on auction sites listed as antique (Furthermore, how many you can find). If there are a lot of pieces of antiquity available, see if their standards have changed and, if not, might be a good starting point. If neither of the above applies to you, in the end, it ikely won't matter what you purchase if it does not meet your OWN critique and preferences. Just get a quality item that you are not worried about having buyers remorse with. If you spend a lot because you are trying to obtain what everyone else considers "valuable", it will never hold that same value to you or yours. You will remember the value of the money you spent, but forever question the value of what you purchased (or) find something else that you wish you knew about before making (that) purchase. Nothing wrong at all with investing in quality pieces. I do so myself, but I do so cautiously, and after quite a bit of research put in. The price is based on premium materials from a premium manufacturer. Now, I don't know El Casco's process, but I would hope to believe that many of their products are hand-made. I have seen on their website that (at least) many of their products are "hand-finished". The cost on products such as (these) is due to "us" and/or "you", potentially "both of us" outsourcing products and labor to other countries like China. Go back 100 years and this sharpener would likely equate to $20.00 USD by today's value, but not that everything can be bought from China in a 20 pack for $3.99, it raises the value of actual quality products to the point of being out of reach for the common man. Many of the people that complain about this voted for the people that made this commonplace today, and I'm not saying that (you) did or didn't. I'm a working class guy that hates where we are today, but i can still appreciate a quality product whether or not I can afford it. It's just a shame that this is where we're going as a country. We lace the pockets of the super-wealthy so they can afford a mortgage payment valued pencil sharpener, then ask (them?) To explain the price. The answer is simple. We did it, and here we are.

I think that this channel is actually a test for everyone. Perpetrated by master joker Alison Kirby. I think she came up with an idea of seeing just how much people, with nothing better to do with their money and with little social responsibility, are willing to pay for things we don’t need.
I have a couple of vintage ST Duponts (go for vintage if you want to save money, and acquire instant patina). I am sure they don't light my Cubans any better than a cheap lighter, but all I can say is they enhance the experience. As regards social responsibility, my Duponts (already 30-40 years old) will outlast hundreds of cheap plastic throwaway lighters, so in the long run, they are better for the environment. If you don't want to go that route, you don't need to follow Kirby or similar channels.

There is an element of hypocrisy from me in that I don’t drive the very cheapest of cars or wear the very cheapest of clothes but rather a level of quality which I hope means value for money. It is when indulgence leads to countless pairs of hand made suits and shoes; to trinkets that seem designed only to shout “I am rich, I can afford to waste money” that I have an issue. A true gentleman is not measured by his number of suits but rather by the way in which he cares for his clothes; by the way in which he conducts himself and by the way in which he treats others. It is for the pursuit of gentlemanly attributes that I watch some lifestyle videos. I hope that is alright with you
