One thing that no one is talking about is that on Wednesday Napoli had a goal disallowed for pretty much the exact same foul as in the Arsenal vs Newcastle game. It ended up costing them 2 points. There is no consistency with officiating.
Absolutely spot on , consistency is the key here , it can't be this way then it's different for another situation, it's either it's a handball ,/foul or it's not simple , they are making it wayyyy to complicated
Except its just obviously not simple, as shown by the amount of disagreement amongst neutral fans over so many decisions. There are way too many variables at play, like even the example of analogous situations goldbridge gives of rashford and endo are different in so many ways. And whatever line in the sand the refs draw, the players are always going to be pushing the limits to gain whatever advantage they can and there will always be some grey area. How much contact is too much contact? At what point does an arm's position become 'unnatural'? How much force is excessive force? etc. etc. Like obviously players and fans can be upset when decisions go against them, but people need to focus on the things they can control, and realise that there's a certain amount of luck that comes in sports and you can't control everything.
I'm a Liverpool fan and even I was pissed of when the push wasn't given to arsenal but was againts untied in the Derby because the push by joelinton Is absolutely a foul

VAR seems to be creating at least as many mistakes as is prevents. And it makes celebratinga goal pointless, and you never know when the game is actually going to finish. Should get rid of it.
My kid started really getting into football this season, loving the game. Now, after he saw so many crazy decisions he told me he's going to go to other sports and he can't understand the refs and VAR making so many poor calls. He's done with the sport.
When a player has the ball next to their own corner flag and an attacker puts any kind of pressure on them, touches them in the back or even just gets tight to them, the player goes to the ground and gets a foul guaranteed. That's enough contact for a foul in that area of the pitch because it's an easy foul to give. But a two handed push on a defender in the back that leads to a goal is not a foul apparently. The double standards is ridiculous
Agree on most of this Mark but the Endo tackle, while bad, was not as bad as Rashfords which was a potential leg breaker and above the ankle which is why he was red-carded.
The Liverpool challenge is not the same has the Rashford one it's crazy people calling a step on the top of the foot rightful yellow and compare to Rashford literally accidental ankle breaker ITS NOT THE SAME
The problem once more is the human element. People are making terrible decisions even supported by technology. This does not mean the tech is bad, it means the people are bad. When the leagues themselves prohibit criticism towards referees, then you get inadequate people in important positions. The VAR many times saved the day and if we are bluntly honest it helped more than made things worse with the notable exception of making people a bit hesitant to celebrate certain types of goals. Those refs would still make terrible calls without VAR. The thing is we now reasonably expect better calls due to the implementation of technology.
Why are there 5 people reviewing calls from matches? Who selects the calls to be reviewed? What is the recourse if a call is to be determined to be incorrect? It's a farse. Those in charge are going to create a panel who is really going to come out and admit that there was an error in officiating? I suspect that, in my personal opinion, this is not an official 'Board of Inquiry.' This is a fake group of people, so the powers that be can claim that there is no controversy, because "an independent panel of experts agreed with us." If it was real, they would name those on the panel. They would create and explain a set of guidelines for this group to be guided by. This is just a made-up fake group to lie to the fans about mistakes in officiating.
Mark, I’m not certain you can watch much rugby. Every game is interpreted differently by the referee. The rules are far less clear than those of football and the nature of the game makes it much harder to referee. The difference here is that players and fans alike recognise that that inconsistency in rule interpretation will always exist and that referees make mistakes. Then they just get on with it.
It is scarce to find people who talked about this topic unbiased as you do. Thank you for speaking up. all these pundits, just want to make Arteta a scapegoat for speaking up
I would trust mark (a man u fan) to ref Liverpool's next game in a better, fair, balanced, common sense way then which ever nut job they put in charge of our next game.
Mark the endo rashford challenges are totally different. Rashfords tackle rolled the ankle of the other player. Endos tackle was a simple standing on the top of the other players foot, no ankle roll and wasnt dangerous. Also rashfords foot hit the other players shin 1st with makes the tackle even more dangerous
The Liverpool handball last night was a joke and not because it wasnt a handball (it was). It was a joke because there was 15 seconds of play AFTER that including defensive cleaeance attempts and further build up play before the goal. It was essentially re-referring the game and went too far back. Why not check the 15 seconds before that... or the 15 before that? There were clearly different phases of play in between. So what is the actual rule they followed?
As a Liverpool fan i totally agree with you mark the officiating/decisions/rules etc etc are a mess it dosent matter what team you support its all about the game its easy to say well it happens to everyone its swings and roundabouts so stop moaning NO we want consistency in the game and it needs sorting out somehow and it needs sorting out NOW
That's impossible. The ref is still influential. Staying with the on field decision can be wrong or right, depending on what the refs call is. People expecting too much
That's not how it works. Every referee makes his own judgment, some will look at the Rashford red and think he shouldn't be sent off, others will think he should. That's why you can appeal sentences because judges interpret laws differently.

@@RedBullLordythis isn't true at all lol. Do you even watch? There was a review at Austin because 3 cars went over track limits nearly every lap and haven't been penalised. There are different rules for different tracks for track limits. The rules of racing are totally unclear. It's probably worse than football
FIA fixed it for their Netflix show hahah glad this years been so boring as revenge
I am really curious to know how the independent panel will judge the Joelinton push if VAR official had determined it to be a foul during the game.
I'm a Liverpool fan and even I was pissed of when the push wasn't given to arsenal but was againts untied in the Derby because the push by joelinton Is absolutely a foul
It ain’t tho he’s already bent over and every player uses opposing players to launch themselves into the ball, if you’re gonna bend over infront of a player then expect to fall over😭
@@BenzBarkzif you played football or have some understanding in physics you would know that the defender needs to get under the ball to clear it, therefore he was bending over. If this happend in the middle of the pitch it would have been an easy foul.
@@BenzBarkz Every player bends over when two strong straight arms are shoved into their back like that. This is just an excuse for making up rules on the spot on a "I feel it in my bones" basis. Officiating is never going to improve unless we actually apply standards that make sense.
No foul snowflakes it’s a contact sport
Rashford was a potential ankle breaking foul and endo's was mainly on the foot
Var is as reliable as my dad fetching milk
At least you have a dad.
His probably gone to the same shop as my dad.
when I first read this I wondered why is his dad felching mark.
@@thomaskavanagh9342he's probably the same dad
Well said. Agree with everything. Why not release minutes from whatever the "Independent Panel" discussed? We need consistency and transparency.
The Liverpool handball is the same as one that was allowed against Tottenham
I used to hate it when Salah used to go down under the most minimal contact and would get a penalty… but the penalty would be given on the basis that contact had been made, not the amount of Contact but just was there contact yes or no.
But yet an independent panel can say yes contact on Gabriel was made, but not enough contact.
It’s worth attackers this weekend pushing defenders out of the way this weekend just to see what happens.
I'm starting to believe like as if there's some sort if scandal or bribing going on Even tho its ridiculous to think that but honestly the amount bad decisions that have been happening for clubs like arsenal, Liverpool and Utd where city and Newcastle so far haven't rly gotten an unfair decision makes me question is there some sort of scandal going on
Some excellent points made again, really great video.
Im an Arsenal fan and we have to move on... all clubs getting screwed at some point... but the fact the panel said it wasnt a push in the Newcastle game is baffleing

So does this mean you can put 2 hands on the back of a player & get away with this ??
The only controversial decision in the Copenhagen v Man Utd game was the penalty given to Utd.
Chelsea have had 2 referees in the past 3 years admit after that they didnt give chelsea decisions out of fear of because their mate was the ref. And im tired of it they are not the only ones. About 5 years ago i decided i would not watch chelsea games if it had certain referees and almost all those games had incidents. The pgmol is corrupt and we all need to take a stand.
Anthony Taylor should be banned from Chelsea games
Absolutely spot on Matk, well done.
The Gabriel one people might as well go around putting their hand on peoples heads on corners now and they cant get sent off for it
Mark in F1 we had 2 races in a row where 1 driver got away with a specific rule breach and then the 3rd race when he doesn't do it suddenly everyone else gets penalties lol. F1 is just as corrupt.
Yes the results of F1 races are now being decided behind closed doors.
That arsenal goals was a goal , rashford red card was a red , you just want all decisions go your way goldbridge
Your so rite Mark....i used to stay in to watch any premier league match but now i couldn't care less as all the bad decisions just put me right off.
Brilliant stuff Mark,agree 💯
You should make a video that's a compilation of every VAR error this season 😂
How long have you got ! 😂😂😂😂
This is a good idea ..
That would take hours. I think Brighton, Liverpool and Arsenal have had about 30 each 😭
@user-tn8uu2cu8g No ways bro, Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Sin needs to be paid for and it can't be with good deeds. Only the blood of Jesus can save you. Repent of your sin, believe in that and you will be saved.
After the fiasco with VAR this past week, I am finding it even hard to watch any football and my love for the game has been destroyed by this.
It's a tool used to rig games. Simple
Nevile and Carragher and the rest of Sky's so-called pundits have been ordered to stop criticizing VAR
The fact that even this independent panel can't fully agree in certain decisions says it all.
You absolutely nailed that assessment of the foul on Gabriel by Joelinton ...VARs decision was based on guess work alone - absurd really.
Mark can you make a video compilation of all the VAR errors so far this season.
Nobody wants to watch a three hour video!
UA-cam doesn't let you upload videos that long
@@stonedvillain79 Bullseye 🎯
VAR seems to be creating at least as many mistakes as is prevents. And it makes celebratinga goal pointless, and you never know when the game is actually going to finish. Should get rid of it.
My kid started really getting into football this season, loving the game. Now, after he saw so many crazy decisions he told me he's going to go to other sports and he can't understand the refs and VAR making so many poor calls. He's done with the sport.
New gen expects more consistency because of video games. No shady decisions there...
Trust me it's only going to get worse.. Big up mark great content 🎉🎉
You dont need to talk about the Rashford red. Its discussable, but not a big VAR mistake.
Moanbridge is totally biased.Every decision that goes against MU is wrong for him
How you put two hands on someone back and it’s not enough for a foul 😂😂😂😂
It feels like officials are now having too much of an effect on the result of a game, no matter how a team plays it can be undone by bad officiating.
Agree on most of this Mark but the Endo tackle, while bad, was not as bad as Rashfords which was a potential leg breaker and above the ankle which is why he was red-carded.
Nobody knows what are referees doing like it’s happening every week . The game is getting ruined seriously 😅
Not too sure about that Formula 1 example, there was a pretty good example of them changing the rules on the fly not too long ago 😅😅
The Liverpool challenge is not the same has the Rashford one it's crazy people calling a step on the top of the foot rightful yellow and compare to Rashford literally accidental ankle breaker ITS NOT THE SAME
We the Fans AND the clubs are becoming victims of the modern game. They are as outraged as the fans
Has nothing to do with VAR but fair enough lol
This is exactly the problem: the rules of football ARE subjective. VAR doesn't work because you can not objectalise (?) the rules of football.
Rashford's and Endo's tackle weren't the same
Rashford stamped above the ankle while Endo stamped the opponents foot
Mark the endo rashford challenges are totally different. Rashfords tackle rolled the ankle of the other player. Endos tackle was a simple standing on the top of the other players foot, no ankle roll and wasnt dangerous. Also rashfords foot hit the other players shin 1st with makes the tackle even more dangerous
Wasn't a tackle, he was shielding the ball.
@@mikester4896 rashford can break the ankle player with that "shielding". R u blind or stupid?
you are absolutely right about the whole VAR system. it is shambolic and inconsistent. Ref should not be the focus of the game.
Much respect to you, Mark. We need influential figures to speak out against the PGMOL otherwise nothing will ever change.
The problem they have is they have previous in backing up bad decisions to save face. Disgusting ruining the actual spectacle through incompetence
I mean Newcastle’s was far from poor 🤣 perfect decision
Maeda's red card vs Athletico was a joke too
The Liverpool handball last night was a joke and not because it wasnt a handball (it was).
As a Liverpool fan i totally agree with you mark the officiating/decisions/rules etc etc are a mess it dosent matter what team you support its all about the game its easy to say well it happens to everyone its swings and roundabouts so stop moaning NO we want consistency in the game and it needs sorting out somehow and it needs sorting out NOW
You're quite right, Mark. All we ask from VAR is consistency.
You're the only person who speaks with honestly and even if I konw you're a Man Utd fan, I've never noticed you're in favor of a particular team. An Arsenal fan from Iran
"Why you siding with the attacker?"
In Arsene Wenger's words, Arsenal's goat manager, he said calls should favor towards goals.
Enough said.
That’s a terrible interpretation
“It’s like being in Thailand, you never know” 😂😂😂
Train the Refs better
VAR for offside (based on feet position), goal line tech and to provide video playback for the onfield ref only (on request by ref or call challenge by either manager)
Havertz one is jus never a send off yes he came in more aggressive than needed but only the trailing leg made contact and it was nothing serious forget about the pen what about the ufc forearm smash to the back of the head that had no review even though it was being replayed😮
They were unanimous that Havertz should have been sent off but it was only 3v2 that Bruno should have been sent off. It is quite extraordinary. Who are these five people??
Oh so he has to actually break his leg to get a red. You’re dense. Maybe lay off the weed.
“it’s like being in thailand… you don’t know it’s confusing” 😭😭😭 im dead
Newcastle goal against Arsenal is scandalous ! The Newcastle get away with so much fouls its crazy. The thing is that their style of play is based around fouls and being tough witch help them a lot. If their player get yellows and reds its different story.
😂😂😂😂
@@Leenufc ye its funny when Bruno and joelinton can make 5 fouls without yellow . Its funny when they push the ball in stoped game and dont get yellow . Its especially funny when they show the ref that he should give card to the opposition player , but they dont get yellow for that only the other teams ;) .
Nowt wrong with the goal but Bruno should have seen red
We had two incidences at Villa's match last night.
1. Our goal was disallowed for being offside. We weren't shown the offside line just told the decision. After the game the officials apologised as they made a mistake, the goal should have stood 😮
2. We scored a goal directly from a corner. The problem is that it was pretty obvious we put the ball out so should not have had a corner 😮
It was not a foul on Gabriel. If that's given as a foul then just make the sport a contactless game
Thanks Mark well said
European football was supposed to be our safe space away from this refereeing madness, but it seems like it just follows. Big problem
Great clip . Let’s hope pgmol does something to get the consistency and confidence of the fans
He said it like he fans can do anything 😂😂
Well we can but we won’t because we are weak, look at gaming as another example in Ea sports they release the same rubbish but people buy it and complain 😂
