They can only consistently get away with such disgraceful decisions by turning rival fans against each other and bantering people who dare to speak out. We need to wake up!

I think Enciso was lucky LFC were 4-0 up. Even LFC players didn’t complain much. And he looked so sorry and got sympathy from most people. The poor guy first game for his new club. I don’t mean that should be a reason for not giving red card.

He gets flown over to UAE to ref games there a few times a year. It’s always concerned me that he is potentially biased by Arab money and no one calls it out.

Pretty sure if Arsenal file a complaint or potential law suit to Michael Oliver for potentially bringing the game into disrepute then he wouldn't be able to officiate any of our games for the rest of the season. Then any money lost on a potential filing of a lawsuit would not be as costly/damaging financially as Michael Oliver officiating our games would probably be.

Correct to separate the functions. Also correct to just scrap VAR, except through manager challenges, one per team, if your appeal is held up, you keep your challenge, if not, you lose it. The twist on this I’ve not heard before is if the *other* team loses *their* challenge afterwards, yours is restored.
Michael Oliver isn't the only incompetent ref there, that is the problem. if it was just him, sack him, but it's not just him, Paul Tierney as well, get rid! When they said there was controversy, I thought "Here we go again, dubious penalty or a corner which should be a goal kick (I knew the score, good job I did). I have to admit, I can't remember the Silva incident but the Liverpool game, defo Red on Enciso. In our game, I thought the tackle on Timber was far worse , so why just another yellow. You should've seen the decision in Australia's A-League this week. A penalty was awarded to Sydney. It went to VAR. VAR said it was out of the box. But if you look at the replay there was no foul at all. The player tripped over themselves. VAR should work, but the way it's run is horrendous.

@YitzHyman that's not how this works. It's a red. You can't tackle players from behind, studs up, preventing a break away. That's a red. Simply preventing a break away is a yellow. Not all penalty shouts and bad bookings get talked about each week, there are too many to talk about because of the PGMOL...
Good point about VAR needing to be independent of the ref. It should be like academic publishing where your work is reviewed by anonymous experts. The VAR should be anonymous and randomly chosen for each match so that the ref doesn't know them.

He gets flown over to UAE to ref games there a few times a year. It’s always concerned me that he is potentially biased by Arab money and no one calls it out.
You absolutely nailed it mate,I was raging after the wolves game,some of the referees decisions this season have been nothing short of scandelous,but as you mentioned some teams get away with it,whilst others are hammered for the same offences

Arsenal, you are not alone. Liverpool has been pointing to the obvious for years now... I mean, no other club flew PGMOL officials to the UAE for thrice the fee they get in the EPL... other than City.
Pretty sure if Arsenal file a complaint or potential law suit to Michael Oliver for potentially bringing the game into disrepute then he wouldn't be able to officiate any of our games for the rest of the season. Then any money lost on a potential filing of a lawsuit would not be as costly/damaging financially as Michael Oliver officiating our games would probably be.

We see some fouls in the area that aren't given then commentators say " that's the right decision in a big game like this" no ballbag a foul is a foul no matter what the game is.
This needs to continue. Someone needs to do a full analysis of all these decisions collectively at the end of the season. Needs investigating
Correct to separate the functions. Also correct to just scrap VAR, except through manager challenges, one per team, if your appeal is held up, you keep your challenge, if not, you lose it. The twist on this I’ve not heard before is if the *other* team loses *their* challenge afterwards, yours is restored.

Michael Oliver isn't the only incompetent ref there, that is the problem. if it was just him, sack him, but it's not just him, Paul Tierney as well, get rid! Paul Tierney should never referee or VAR or anything on a Liverpool game again in my opinion and Oliver the same for Arsenal. You're right, Bernando Silva is a dirty player. I call him Bastardo Silva. He's like Roy Keane with technical abilities (don't @ me, you know I'm right, Roy Keane was a bully in his day).

The whole point in VAR was a diffusion of responsibility. They don't want fans showing up at ref's homes anymore so they have VAR to say more then one person has supported this decision.

Thank you Mark for a very balanced discussion. As an Arsenal fan, I didn't se the game, only the highlights on MOTD. When they said there was controversy, I thought "Here we go again, dubious penalty or a corner which should be a goal kick (I knew the score, good job I did). I couldn't believe it when the red card was shown for a bog standard take one for the team and then for WAR to uphold the decision. I have to admit, I can't remember the Silva incident but the Liverpool game, defo Red on Enciso. In our game, I thought the tackle on Timber was far worse , so why just another yellow. That is 8 red cards that Michael Oliver has issued us and quite a few since the emergence of Man City. Conspiracy theories, what Moi?

You should've seen the decision in Australia's A-League this week. A penalty was awarded to Sydney. It went to VAR. VAR said it was out of the box. But if you look at the replay there was no foul at all. The player tripped over themselves. VAR should work, but the way it's run is horrendous.

@YitzHyman that's not how this works. It's a red. You can't tackle players from behind, studs up, preventing a break away. That's a red. Simply preventing a break away is a yellow. Not all penalty shouts and bad bookings get talked about each week, there are too many to talk about because of the PGMOL...

Good point about VAR needing to be independent of the ref. It should be like academic publishing where your work is reviewed by anonymous experts. The VAR should be anonymous and randomly chosen for each match so that the ref doesn't know them.
