You are so right about those fragile door panels. My daughter has a 2004 Beetle Cabrio and it is absolutely the worst car I've ever owned/worked on, and I have repaired many cars over many years. The plastic parts seem to crack if you look at them the wrong way, especially those door panels. The original window regulators in some of the 03-04 MY cars have a notorious issue with not dropping slightly when you unlock the doors with the key fob. The result is the window will hit the convertible top as you open the door to get in. After much research, I found out that replacing the regulators is the only way to remedy this. There is an entirely different issue with the door latch mechanism failing resulting in not dropping the window when your are closing an opened door. The result is the window hitting the top again, but this time from the outside. These are only a couple of the many many issues that plague the "New Beetle", especially the verts.

I have the same issue that the window won’t drop half inch upon opening the door. Did you replace the entire regulator to fix it?

@@waynezhang3969 Never fixed it. Didn't want to spend the $'s to replace both regulators and motors and then the cost for the VW dealership to update the computer. Don't plan on keeping the car much longer.

Yes! Thank you! I need this! just in time my regulator and motor arrived in the mail today. I was going to ask advice about building it from a kit.... This video is still a great help. This is what I'll be doing weekend.

I've done this 26 years and never had any luck with rebuilding these. Good luck though.

Where did you find the regulator? what was the part #. that is exactly what I need for my 2009 convertible, mounts the same as far as inside the door then the panel

PartsGeek has an aftermarket option for $143. I've installed these but they are not as smooth or quiet as the VW parts. The VW Part is about $700. Call your local VW dealer with your Vin # and they can give you a price and availability. Good luck with the project.

Do window regulators for a hatchback not fit a convertible for the same year (2009) beetle? Is that true? Thanks

Important NOTE. You will need Bolt # N-910-935-01. NOT included with the replacement regulator but the original bolt DOES NOT FIT the new regulator.

cant find this part anywhere. $750 from the dealer is not worth fir my car. I ordered a kit repair from ebay but my mechanic said I need to get the part you show and I see you mention the repair kit here. Why is it not an option? thanks

I'm quite good at this but have never had any luck restringing the cables on the rebuild kits. PartsGeek has an aftermarket option for $143. I've installed these but they are not as smooth or quiet as the VW parts. Good luck with the project.
