  • This is an introduction to the topic of atherosclerosis and heart disease, specifically a new line of thinking in this field.
The old school thinking is that dietary fat is the culprit for heart disease. But research has moved on, and is showing that this is a more complicated story. It involves other factors, including your metabolic health and insulin.
Dr.Kraft said that heart disease is diabetes. Several other studies do show a relationship between insulin resistant states and a more pathological lipid profile.
There are several studies that support this view.

Yep the real cause of heart disease has been known for decades, Inflammation! Guess what promotes inflammation, refined carbohydrates and refined vegetable oils. All these years they have blamed saturated fats from animal products, and of course cholesterol. Yet if we look at countries that eat the most saturated fat and have high cholesterol levels, we find they have the lowest heart disease levels in the world e.g. France. In addition inflammation promotes oxidation of cholesterol, creating what is known as oxidised cholesterol, this causes damage to the arterial wall, hence atherogenic. Plant components appear to be good at protecting cholesterol from oxidation e.g. lycopene from tomatoes.

I appreciate you introduced the concept of simple carbohydrates and not labelled all carbohydrates as evil like media does today.

What about fruit? Eating moderate fat and some fruits will oxidize cholesterol?

. It always starts with an injury to the artery wall which causes inflammation which attracts the substances to patch it up. Cholesterol does not cause heart disease no more than gout is caused by high uric acid. Your body makes both and absorbs what it h needs. It all comes down to inflammation, and an initial injury to the artery wall which eventually collects byproducts that calcify.

No they are not ( if u not eat it too much) they have a lot fiber and fruits breaks to sugar pretty slow and not trigger insulin a lot. So it's not bad for you, there is thing called glycimic index. The lower on that scale food is the less insulin it will provoke
