I just picked up my second one of these today a 146.5. Now I have one from each of the rick-houses. The only way to get into high proof stuff is to set a day aside and get about four pours in. It’s tough because I don’t like getting drunk but with high proof stuff the alcohol disappears for me by the fourth pour. And it’s not like, “I’m so wasted I can’t taste anything,” but I can stick my whole nose in the glass and not pick up any alcohol. I discovered this with stagg Junior batch 12. It was like drinking chocolate caramel butterscotch cinnamon milk. But that’s when it can become really dangerous because that’s when it really starts tasting good!!!
Highlight was Dan laughing while trying to tell Vampire how dumb his comment was: "it's like burnt chocolate but in a good way." Point deduction for no bottle flip.

Dan, you do have a point about high proof whiskies. Sean knows, (Stagg Jr. livestream) all too well. lol That said, It's no accident that some of the best whiskies are barrel proof. I love them.

I just scored 2 bottles of Coy Hill. They sold out in a matter of minutes here in LV so I had a friend of mine check the store in Reno. They still had all 6 of their bottles so I had her grab 2. She will be delivering them when she come to town for Christmas. This is the first review I've seem, so now I really can't wait to get my bottle's. BTW You two are great.
Did they just put them out in the store or was it a lottery or something like that? Having a hard time finding stuff in town & when if they do, it's priced way above MSRP, ex. Russell's SiB picks are nowhere if they had them, they are $97+ (total w tax), well over $100 at TW.

Great review @Bourbon Junkies! I would slightly disagree - you CAN have 4-5 ounces of this in a sitting, I proved that myself last night. However, you were right in insinuating it's not a good choice to do that, I had some regerts today. Lol.
The water comment makes sense to me. I've got a regular Single Barrel Barrel Proof thats like 136 proof. And, the flavors just kind of fall apart if you add any water at all.
I had a chance to grab Coy Hill but opted for the Jack Daniel’s Barrel Proof rye instead at an allocation day at my favorite liquor store. Surprised they had a bottle of the rye available. I feel like I made the right choice.
Definitely not the right choice.. the Barrel Proof Rye is now available on shelves nationwide and the Coy Hill is unobtainable unless you have $700+ to spend.
It’s a shame that people who don’t even buy or support JD snatch them up like they do. I’ve been fortunate with all the special releases but that’s probably good karma because I support them regularly.

To me there are very few things as aggressively American as drinking and enjoying whiskey that the government has literally deemed to be “hazardous material”.
140+ proof sounds like JD trying to tap into the Absinthe market. For me the ceiling for whisky is around 120 proof, even Stagg Jr is too hot for me (yea yea I know you all are big fans), I can sit down and have a few pours of Rare Breed without committing taste bud genocide.
I don’t think they’re trying to tap into a market but the new master distiller walked into a situation where he has these and he actually has older stuff even higher proof and he’s not sure what to do with them so expect some even crazier releases coming soon.

I still would like to find one of these, sure it wouldn't be a daily drinker but it would be an amazing special occasion bottle.
Somebody once told me, if a whiskey is a little too hot, it actually helps to put a little water into it.

I just scored 2 bottles of Coy Hill. They sold out in a matter of minutes here in LV so I had a friend of mine check the store in Reno. They still had all 6 of their bottles so I had her grab 2.
