Just bought a bottle of 1897 a few weeks ago. Have 1920 and 1910, and when I opened the 1897 i was pleasantly surprised how much I like it more than the other 2. Great video guys!
Like I always say about 1897....oh who am I kidding, I never talk about 1897 cuz I don't recall even giving it a chance with my dumbass. This video will change that. I love when you guys drop the occasional "eye opener" video on us. Thanks, guys.
Grabbed a 1910 a few weeks ago. It really changed (for the better) after it had been opened a few days. Surprising to me that this happens. Would be cool if you guys did a video comparing 2 of the same bottles one freshly cracked and one that had been opened a week or 2 before.
We actually did a video on this a while back with two bottles from the same barrel and two bottles that were from the same batch as well. The video is called "Does whiskey change once it's opened?"
When I got hard into the bourbon game, buying the entire row was one of my first moves based on your absolute love. And they are still cornerstones for me. Although now maybe I need to run a blind and see who wins for me.
I’ve been trying to spread the good word about 1897 for a while, to no avail. Glad to see you guys giving it some love. Next time you have some out, do a side x side with Early Times BIB. You might be surprised how similar they are (but with 1897 being more oaky).
This whisky row series is so good. 1910 and 1897 are my top two followed my 1920. Please stop talking about them, I don't want them going up in price and harder to find.
Bought an 1897 (for the first time trying any OF) after seeing this vid and crushed it in 2 weeks. Went back and got another and a 1910. Love them both. 1910 opened up after a week and is now tough to tell which I like better. Love the content guys keep it up.
I can't wait to visit the US this summer to get a few of these bottles cause they are either hard or impossible to get in England, and I think they'd be my jam.
@@kenchernoff At $60 USD in the States, that's actually not a bad markup. Don't get me wrong, some BCL markups are ridiculous, but I thought they were pretty fair with this one. I only wish the whole row was regularly available here! Still seeking a 1910.
None of the whiskey row series are bad as they are all unique. The intent was to show the progression and variants of their products over the years. They knocked it out of the park with this idea
i've seen enough videos where dan is eating or talking about apples and now he's talking about being an apple connoisseur... i think an Apple Junkie video needs to happen! with Sean in the background just shaking his head...
I slept on 1897 for like the first year that I had the bottle but I swear every time I've gone back to it in the last few months it grows on me more and more.
1897 and 1920 are my favorites out of the row series. Picked up a OF statesman and BBC fusion series 6 yesterday when I was looking for simple syrup for old fashioneds. Cheers guys!
Awesome lineup and comparison. I really love the blind tastings. I ordered 4 bottles of the 1910 new label based on this review and the one from last year. Keep up the great work guys!
Gentlemen, after this video I had to revisit the 1910, since I have not had their "new label" version. Under old label standards, the 1920 was always king. However, I'm a HUGE fan of the new 1910! Just as shocked/disappointed/happy as you guys. The new 1910 easily passes the new 1920 for me.
The local PX by me had the series’s on sale for $43 a piece. Yea let’s just say I stocked back up and so glad I did. For the price and availability you can’t really pass these up
Almost like ranking your kids. You love them all equally but... #4 was the Oops, and the other 3 depend on the day. You gotta drink the crushable one too, because you have FOUR freekin kids! Great lineup,. 1920 was my 2nd love after ECBP C920, and 1910 is the more delicate version. You have talked me into the 1897 BIB.
So for me 1920 and 1897 are my top 2 and i think i could switch my favorite depending on the night. Last time i did an old forester flight i had statesman in it as well and 1897 won for me
Great video, one of my top favored distilleries! Always have something to offer. Yo! You all’s fingers are a foot long in the 1st couple minutes of the video.
Bought my first bottle of 1910 a couple of days ago. I released the neck pour in a glencairn and let it sit until I got home from work. It smelled like cherry cough syurp that morning and toasted marshmallow s'mores when I got home in the afternoon. Tasted great but a little sweet. Can't wait to see what it's like in a couple of months.
I purchased a 1910 and 1920 last weekend just to see what all the hype was about. My wife and I both agreed 1910 was the clear winner. Will have to try the other two sometime soon now as well.
Great video. I tried the 1920 last week for my first ever taste of OF products and thought it was awesome and both of you think the 1910 is better so guess that will be my next purchase. I do prefer whiskey on the rocks and that was how I had it but I did try a small sip neat and thought it was great with minimal burn.
Do y’all think there’s any chance the results would have been different if you did fresh cracked bottles vs fresh cracked bottles? My biggest hangup on the whole old vs new series has been the difference in air time..
Ok great video and now I need to go get me some 1910 because I have never had it, but I need to know something. Was that flip from Dan successful?!?! That thing had some rotation on it but we never saw the result because the video cuts off! I have to know lol
Look at that! Dan is correct, 1897 is the best! Good job coming in second Sean! Something about a bourbon that is watched over by the gov should win! #MERICA
Unfortunately I never got to try the old ones. I did get a new bottle of 1910 and it’s AMAZING! Considering 1910 and 1920 are basically the same price, do you think it even makes sense to try the new 1920? Or is 1910 widely regarded as the new king of whiskey row?
think i would have liked to watch an 1897 Old vs New comp now lol. Have a bottle of the new 1897 expression and its always a start your night pour for the pallet. lets be honest thou, cant go wrong with any of the OF Row. they are all hitters
I don't know if Brown-Forman did something to 1920, but I do not like it anymore, or at least not like I did 2-3 years ago. I don't know if I've changed or it has changed or just less consistent bottle to bottle but... it has this bad medicinal cherry taste on the finish, that it reminds me strongly of Robitussin. It's not a good cherry, it's a medicinal, artificial cherry. I have since detected hints of this in some other BF products also and but in the 1920 it's very noticeable.
Thank you for shining light on 1920 not being that great! I bought it a year ago because of all the love and it just drinks hot to me. I’ve tried it 10+ times now and while I do like it now (I hated the first several pours), it’s just hot and nothing special
Did you guys realize that you listed the 1870 whiskey as 1890? 1890 - no such product. Maybe this was further down in the comments and I was too lazy to scroll all the way through them to see. I do agree that the 1910 and the 1897 are both really good. Would like to see a blind of SBBP bourbon, 1920, and SBBP rye. Maybe throw in a Birthday bourbon in there for grins and giggles.

1920 is fantastic. Better than 1910 IMO. 🥃
They are also impossible to get in Denmark 🤔🙄!
Also near impossible to get in Canada and I'm only a few hundred miles from Dan and Sean

The 1897 is very good, but he original Old Forester 100 proof is my favorite. It’s only 24.99$.
Killed a bottle of 1910..loved it...just cracked a 1920...Loved it also
Great upload, cool outcome and Dan's big right hand when he puts it down on table lol, Cheers guys, keep them coming.
Simon Says Flip a Bottle.
That's a shirt, right there.
1897 and 1920 are my favorites out of the row series. Picked up a OF statesman and BBC fusion series 6 yesterday when I was looking for simple syrup for old fashioneds. Cheers guys!
The old 1897 is definitely better than the new 1897, 1910 is somehow still underrated, and they’re both definitely better than 1920 in our book.
Ty for this detail!
1920 eventually emerged as the best to me. It took a lot of water and a lot of time. Best cut to 48% for me.
LOVE Old Forester SO MUCH! :)

1897 has replaced 1920 for me with the new batches as well. 1910 is still a staple.

Not sure what it is about 1920, but it doesn't seem to blind well in battles of more than 1v1. It's been a theme on your channel as well as others.
