    Always good to see Frank back in action. Lucky for me I keep a stock of more than 50 fans from the projectors which I strip for parts. Yorkshire English slang says: Job's a gooden.

    Fascinating, as always. There are so many ways these things can break, and you seem to know every one of them. Am especially glad to see that it's possible to unjam one of those brushless fan motor things.
    I also appreciate that you tend to pat the machinery. It's probably an adjustment mechanism, in your case, but it also makes me feel less like I have to be secretive about patting my devices. X)

      I like to give them a little encouragement and a nice pat or two seems to do the trick. :)

      I don't like to take them apart. Too easy to make a mistake. If you have dust inside, use a vacuum on one end and blow air into the other. There is enough space to get the dust out in my experience. Fwiw you don't need to get it all out. They are designed to work properly with some dust.

    Amazing video, great work!
    I have the same projector, opened it because it raises excessive temperature
    I cleaned all dust, the fan in the front that you fixed is clean and works, it blows air OUT of the projector, but still it gets too hot and I’m concerned the lamp will blow up.
    I also let the side lid open, so it lets hot air out faster.
    Is it normal ?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  Рік тому +1

      They do run hot. Your exhaust air can be 80c. If you are not getting any overheating warnings, then it is normal. I would not modify anything. The heat is pretty normal, just make sure the vents are not being blocked and it should be fine.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  Рік тому

      Probably the fan in the front is jammed. shut down after 2min and temp LED usually means a stuck fan or bad fan. The blower fan in the front is a common issue. They become packed with dust/lint.

    Also, where is a good place to get projector parts? I can only find replacement bulbs and filters online

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 роки тому

      Hi Bing, It depends on the parts really. Epson is really hard to find parts in general(I saw your post about the 6040UB). Epson will not sell to the aftermarket and they want you to send it to them. However I found some sources in China. I use a company called Time electronics. Gydz@timeprojectorlamp.com is their email. Send a picture of what you need and they will be able to help if they have it. Let them know I referred you if you reach out.

      Ok thanks will do. My projector is actually still under warranty but I smoke inside and apparently that makes me some sort of disgusting monstrous terrorist these days. I kept asking for info on repairing projector but all I got were people lecturing me about smoking, anyway fuckem, I did I did it on my own with help from your videos, mostly anyway

      Hi Adrienne! I have an email listed on the about page about halfway down if you want to discuss it. I don't see any mention of 9 flashes in the service manual, but it depends on which LED is flashing. If its the lamp led, then it might be a ballast, or color wheel. If its the temp led, then possibly a jammed fan. Either way, I am happy to help if I can. Thanks so much for your comment!

    I have an optoma hd39hdr projector. First symptoms was it tried to start up, fan on color wheel spun. After a few tries the power LED flashed with lamp led steady. Ordered bulb assembly. Replaced. Same result. After unplugging and plugging back in the lamp plug I realized that the new lamp assembly did not have the directional polarity notches in the plug like the original did. After reconnecting in the correct orientation both the power and lamp LED are on solid and the unit is not responding. Any ideas?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, Is the lamp door secure? That could cause both LEDs to be solid color. Is the power LED solid red?
      The wire being backward while not ideal, wont hurt anything. These are AC lamps so polarity isnt entirely important. It can affect ignition sometimes though.

    • @beausannieoakleyposse7249
      @beausannieoakleyposse7249 2 роки тому

      @@FixitFrank Ok so yes I forgot about the door switch. After closing the switch and powering up I am back to the original error code of blinking power with solid lamp LED. This is both with original lamp and a new lamp assembly. I ran it with cover off and checked. Color wheel runs smooth for about 30 seconds and both fans run as well. After 3 trys it goes back to same error code. I pulled the color wheel sensor and cleaned it. I observed the black stripe indicator on the wheel. It was more of a medium grey. Not sure if it faded from heat. I see no obvious signs of broken/ burnt wiring or plugs. No swollen caps. I bought it new Dec 2020 so out of warranty. Anything else that would cause these symptoms?

      It has the door for the lense / power on/off switch I think possible cause idk. No fans kick on nothing almost like it's dormant. Gonna take it apart and see if I can bypass lense switch temporarily. Thanks again for your help.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  8 місяців тому +1

      I doubt the lens switch is the issue. It's either the power supply or main board. The uhd55 is notorious for failures after about a year. If you have network LEDs, that means there is some power from the supply but maybe it's missing the 12v but has 3.3 standby. I hate to say it but these are tricky to work on and it's probably the main board. They tend to cook themselves due to optomas poor thermal management in this chassis. Take what I say with a grain of salt. Without it in front of me, I'm inferring a lot.

      Hello! Thanks for asking! Everyone is well.
      Does the picture flicker its colors at all before it shuts off? Also does it make any weird buzzing noises?
      My gut tells me a color wheel or lamp is your issue but which one is hard to say without know about the flickering and noise. A lamp is always one of my first go-to's in this situation but if its a color wheel, the lamp wont help.

      @@i-dronep.r.692 okay, Just so I am clear, it will run for say 30-60seconds and then it turns off and fans run for a bit with Lamp led lit up?
      I'd try a lamp first then. Be sure its not from amazon(they are awful). Also be sure you can return it. There is a likely chance its the lamp but in the even that it isn't, you don't want to be stuck with that. If a new, proper lamp (you should have no issues with any of these links. www.projectorcentral.com/projector-lamp.htm) does not solve it, then we would want to look a little deeper. There is a possible power supply issue but I'd rule out the lamp first. Its possible the place you got it from put a cheap lamp inside expecting that to fix it and gave up.
