I was looking up traditional hungarian pastries to make this christmas and the Kifli cookies seemed so intimidating to me! But you made the recipe look very easy. Im excited to try your recipe, thanks for sharing!
I make these every year at Christmas just like my grandmother used to do. She called them Hungarian cakes. She added vanilla to her walnuts and then sprinkled the finished cookies with powdered sugar. They are so different and delicious! I love sharing them with friends and family. Thanks for sharing- since my grandmother passed- I can’t ask for advice like - how many time can the dough be re-rolled or why are they puffing up so much? This was helpful.
I’m so glad to help and so happy to hear your story! I’ve had this recipe on the blog for almost 8 years now and the comments are filled with heartwarming stories like yours.
Hi! Yes you could try cup-4-cup gluten free flour, but it might be a bit more delicate while shaping! Be aware that monkfruit or splenda don't caramelize like sugar, but you could get a similar effect if you check if the monkfruit has a blend with erythritol in it. Give it a try and report back? Happy baking!
Hey John, the dough won't crack but I worry that the inside layers of the roll will be underbaked and not flakey. I am always a fan of giving it a try! If it isn't good, it isn't good! But what if you created something AMAZING!?
OK,, After 14 minutes of TRYING TO FIND THE RECIPE,,, i give up. Said it was linked in the description, I pushed every button , word, on the screen and i couldnt find it ANYWHERE. Posting it as the video plays for a few seconds would be nice.
I'm sorry but Why do u sound like you're annoyed with her? It's literally EXACTLY where she said it is.. you need to ask someone around you for help navigating UA-cam's user interface bc she tried to tell you where to find it. Maybe thank her and get up and ask someone around you for help bc ur a little slow with technology. I'm not trying to offend you.. I'm slow with new things that I haven't learned how to navigate the UI yet. They're all different and it's frustrating. If u need more help getting to the link, just ask tho
@joeydogg999 When you look at the page with the video on top, go down to the line that reads HOW TO MAKE NUT ROLLS and click on the line. You'll see the entire title of the video (usually a thumbnail description of the video's content). Below that you'll see a bit of text about the video. Then continue to scroll down to the next paragraph where you are shown a link (in another text color) to the written recipe. Click on the link and look at the recipe on that page. Hope this helps
Recipe, video, and author comments on their recipe page all have conflicting information. I realized only after being 3/4 of the way through. I think you're crazy saying they're 1.5 inches - that's less than the small side of a credit card, which yours are definitely much larger. The sugar grinding into my countertop when I rolled them out was unpleasant and left scratches. I won't do that again until I'm rich enough to afford marble.
Hi Carly! Sorry to hear that was your experience. Parchment paper or silicon mats work wonders. I've been updating this recipe publicly for over 3 years (to take in people's home cook experiences) and privately for much longer, so the version on the blog is the most recent if folks need one to reference! Happy baking!

My Hungarian grandmother always put a shot of palinka, rum, vodka, whatever she had on hand, in the dough.
My kind of lady! ;)
I’ve been looking for this recipe since my grandmother made them every Christmas and I’ve missed them!! Can’t wait to make!
Hope you enjoy! Happy Baking! 💖
What are the measurements
Same!!! You have earned a follower as someone who dearly misses her Hungarian Grandmother THANK YOU L! ❤️🇭🇺
These look very similar to the ones my Slovakian Grandma made (and now I make) they're very good
I'm so happy to hear that you enjoy these, me too!
Your grandma was Slovak, there's no such word Slovakian.

Delicious thank U ❤
My pleasure 😊
Will this recipe work with cup for cup gluten free flour and monkfruit or splenda in place of the sugar?

Curious, can you make a nut roll " log " with this dough, or will it crack after its rolled about 4 times?? Thanks

Can these be frozen after cooled, for future events?
Hi Tracey! Great question! I unpack all the details for that here: cheflindseyfarr.com/authentic-hungarian-walnut-rolls/#how-to-store-nut-roll-cookies
So how do you store them once baked?
Store in an airtight container! Happy baking! :)
I'm slow where is the description?
No worries! It's right below the video! 💖
Have you ever used toasted walnuts?
Though I suppose you could, I do not toast them for this recipe. They bake long enough to toast in the nut roll cookie!

It's in the description, on the line that says "For printable recipes" near the top!

Recipe on link in caption “more”
It sure is! :)
Is there an ingredient list that Im missing?
Hi! Yes, it's linked in the description. Happy baking!
@@ChefLindseyFarr thank you!
No ingredient measurements??
Hi Susan, measurements can be found via the link in the description. Happy baking!
Doesn't say anything about how much of each ingredient what a bummer
Hi Vivian, measurements can be found via the link in the description. Happy baking!
You should list the ingredients in this video instead of us having to go to another site to get them. How long would that have taken you?
1st time watching, its a shame you choose not to tell us the amount of each ingredient
Ingredient amounts are listed via the link the description! Happy baking!

Hi Giovanna, the recipe measurements are available via the link in the description. Happy baking!
You are as cute and sweet as you can be but I think you need a few more lessons yourself.

You are too histrionic! Lost interest on your video, because of it.
To each their own!
