I've been using the airplane analogy for years now. I bowl two-handed and use a 5-step approach. I'm not a pro, just some guy who bowls and started late in life (about 50). I find that bending my knees (and back a bit) on the third step is the way to go. One thing I have never been able to do is a complete follow through with my arm swing. I bring my arm about halfway up, if that. Any time I try to bring my arm higher than that, my shot suffers... badly. I think I'm just not coordinated that way. At my age, I'm not trying to be a pro, just having fun and playing on local leagues. Started in the low 100s about 6-7 years ago and now many scores are in the 220s. Of course, I also have games where nothing goes right. Just trying to have fun, stay active, and build up my average. As for two-handed bowling I think the two most important details are the ball landing on the lane (the airplane analogy) and keeping your elbow in. It is so easy to chicken-wing your shot and that naturally changes the ball's trajectory. Get low, get some good power from your legs, and keep your elbow in. The hardest part of bowling is making changes fast enough as the lane changes and knowing which change to make. A work in progress... as they say.

Thanks for all the tips 🔥Joined a league this year, finished with only 168 avg, but i'm steadily increasing and breaking 200 often now because videos like these help hone in what I need to improve on and what I'm doing correctly.. Threw my high of 278 last week, feels like I have a 300 coming. Thanks for all your help! (Plus many others like Brad&Kyle, Packy, etc..) 👍

I'm a one handed bowler. I find myself standing straight up most the time. I caught myself yesterday while practicing and went oh ya bend my knee and drive from that power step Definitely saw a difference. These lesson videos are awesome

This vis is simply GOLD! Providing tips to a non pro bowler for an ole geezer like me couldn’t be more to life. BTW, the airplane landing is a great visual. Being ex-Navy, I realize I’m more of a “carrier landing” because i can’t bend over much due to weak knees 😢

Love watching these videos for tips and brining them to my local lane to practice. There’s slight improvement, averaging around 150. And getting 200+ every once in a while, but would love to be more consistent with 200

I tried working on a silent low release for a year before figuring it out. And flicking downward as oppose to pulling up on it last second was the secret that helped me figure it out. That and exaggerating where it feels like im setting the ball down.

From what I can see your dropping or lofting the ball when you are supposed to be smoothly rolling the ball and to fix or alleviate that by getting lower (should not hear a loud thump and this is hard for tall people like me). You're also cupping the ball at the bottom, if you want more revs the finger should be more in the front (curl your arm more closer to your biceps). Your release should be more of a "Spider-man" pushing off your thumb from your palm and rolling off your fingers (aim at the arrows with your thumb, think of your thumb like an engine on a boat). Make sure your arm is straight starting from your palm correlating through your forearm to your elbow in your swing. Don't let the ball out run your feet ( feet move first then arm/ball). And the number one rule is... No matter what, have FUN!

Hey Darren, how are you? I’m a one-handed bowler also about 6 feet tall one of your greatest videos of learning bowling technique is the way to swing the ball. That is my number one inconsistency. I am trying to learn the way Frankie May taught me is the shake hand method I can get the first few parts of it right like put my fingers in my thumb. I can swing back, but when I come forward on the release, I’m having trouble keeping it straight and I’m very inconsistent and I sometimes go to the gutter too much, if I can be more consistent, no matter what ball I’m using or oil pattern. If you can help me that area that would be great. Thank you and take care.

He's given a free lesson to someone he's beaten, played people he's already played, and played people he knows personally. So, I guess the form was useless? @darrentang, are you not going through the submissions at all?
