Hey my 2004 vw toureg can handle it lots of power an I can lift it up to get 11 inches of ground clearance can can go through 22 inches of water if necessary
Man awesome rig. I remember watching this video when you first uploaded it 7 years ago and here i am again. I think that it's time for me to finally buy my own Suburban.
Function over fashion, you got it brother. NO 20-22 inch stupid wheels,Jack on the hood. I noticed you stowed everything you showed and didn't just toss it in the back of the truck" to put away later" . Your channel popped up randomly and I'm glad I saw it. Thanks
I love channels like this. I'm currently looking for an old-school truck that runs well and in good shape and I'll add all the bells and whistles later. Nothing like a metal rig that demands respect on the road and will barely have a scratch on it mean while the new vehicles fall apart from coming in contact with a strong wind.
My Son just became a Marine on 2/5/21 from Parris Island. I am buying a GMC Suburban 2500 SLE 2wd for $1500. with 233,000 miles. Your truck is bad ass, I am going to watch the video now. Take care Rick Wood
it looks like our 1988, black with red interior.....we owned ours from 1994 to date, but want to add to it. having 6 kids and parents, it’s. a must. now we have 4 grand kids, it’s going back into use.
Thank you so much for not using profanity in your video. I truly enjoyed and picked a lot of useful information from you so I subscribed. I also drive a suburban and I working my way to "bugging it out". I do not plan on getting rid of it. I will continue to pick up helpful hints from you starting with the CB radio. I almost forgot to mention my brother is also a Marine who finished his tour and went on to other things. Thank you so much for your service and helping keep America safe.
Got me my 83 Suburban 6.2. 15600. In GREAT shape. I do not have my winch hooked up yet. my father-in-law is a master welder / fabricator and is building me a brush guard for the front and back. And then I'm going to be coating the entire thing with maxxlife but I am going to stick to the original color scheme. You are an inspiration my friend! Got two tents, four sleeping bags, 4 Life vests a cooler with survival gear and Fire Starting equipment, water purification and dehydrated meals. Also A fire extinguisher. A jack. A jumper box. First aid kit. And I'm about to hook up my CB. Hopefully getting it lifted 3 in. I also got me some good off-road 15" tires. It's definitely my dream machine!Happy And the whole family loves it! By the way I heard you loud and clear the entire video. ;-)
My dad just handed me down his old daily driver, an 86 k20 burban, and I have loved that truck ever since he got it back in 05 and now that I'm about to get my license he passed it onto me and I cannot explain my excitement lol
Make a video! Lucky you’ve got a k20 with an upgraded th350 or th400 (or a rare manual) the half ton k10 version only had the th350 and they usually burn up from the constant weight of them.
no fightin or biten....love it. good show keep it up. retired land surveyor, i lived in and out of suburbans for 30 yrs.... never let me or my crew down....you go.
My first truck was an '86 Silverado. You could beat it to death and fix it back up super easy. Other thing worth mentioning for preppers is that an EMP would only take it out of commission for ten minutes if you keep a couple of cheap and easy spare parts around.
I heard the EMP continuously pulses to take out whatever is repaired. Also they make something for vehicles but whether it will work or not it's yet TBD.
When he opened the doors and I saw all the red interior the first thing I thought of was Elvis Presley's Private Jet with the red interior that Jimmy on Jimmy's World restored as an RV. I guess the Suburban could be the Elvis Bug Out Vehicle EBOV LOL
Man a great job by you and your wife. You have nailed all the points I had considered. A full-width security draw for those places that mandate security. Three lucky children; teach them to be capable. Greetings from Greg in Thailand
Love your Suburban, I have an '87 silverado half ton 4x4 single cab long bed myself. They are tough but simple trucks. Easy to maintain and surprisingly capable off road for such a large vehicle. I'll be doing a few videos of mine soon, thanks for the inspiration.
Video of my '87 4x4 pickup truck is on my channel now, feel free to check it out and offer some suggestions of what I should do next. Again thanks for the inspiration.
Oh man. Your dedication to this beast of a truck is AMAZING. I have a 97 Suburban and would totally feel like Sarah Connor if my truck looked like this!
I loved the square body style of the Chevys back in the 70's/80's. they looked tough and they were/are solid steel. This was when Chevy made great trucks. Awesome job!!
When I was in the military we had to grease our wire (steel rope) cables. It lubricates the strands so that they do not chafe against each others and it also keeps them clean and protected from dirt, water and all sorts of bad things. Also every once in a while you need to clean the grease out of the cable and then re-grease it. That takes the dirt between the strands out and re-lubes the inner cables.
Nice truck and video! Our shtf truck is a 93 GMC 3/4 ton ext cab long bed 4x4 with the 6.5 turbo diesel. It may not roll coal like the new ones but it will pull your house off the foundation.
This Vid is priceless. Thanks to your wife. I bought an 89 Burban 2 months back and this vid got me pretty pumped. Three more kids equals no more vids. :) Thanks Brother PD
I just stumbled onto this video. You and your wife seem like some real down to earth people. Very informative in your explanation of your winch and locker hubs. I couldj't help but sub, I'm digging the vibe from you guys, esp you. Take care and stay safe.
I own a 1993 suburban bug out rig. Work in progress, will be posting video shortly. thanks for your video, sharing the preparedness philosophy. Failing to plan is planning to fail.

Ima gonna check out more of your videos later, very impressed sir. You have a ton of decals, does that interfere with your visibility at all?
Your truck brings me back to my younger days with my old school Blazer hard top that came off and you would assume that a big guy it belonged to lol at the time I was 5'3 and 120 lbs ..yes some great memories of love to have another beast but at 50 yrs old and disabled it's never gonna happen ....but thank u love that hand made bumper ,! 💯
AWESOME TRUCK MAN COULD IT MAKE A GREAT CAMPER I AM SINGLE I COULD LIVE IN THIS TRUCK LOAD SOLAR ON TOP ABOUT 4 TO 6 AGM BATTERYS AND A 5000 PURE SINE WAVE INVERTER. YOU R A LUCKY DUDE .GOD BLESS AMERICA
Just watched your video, I have an 86' 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban Military Version, I've been working on making a Bugout Vehicle for a few years now, I have owned it since 1997, it started out as a hunting vehicle, but in the past 5 years I've been slowly converting it into the ultimate Bugout Rig, you're video has given me some great ideas for mine, keep up the awesome videos, have you thought about adding a Ham Radio setup to your rig, That's how I stay in touch with my family and friends while on off reading overland runs, again thanks for the awesome video, I thought I was the only person building a Bugout Vehicle from a Suburban 👍🏻✊🏼🇺🇸
The second vehicle I ever owned was a 1977 Blazer. My Blazer was a lot like your Suburban, the tires where even the same.I had it for around 8 years and never got stuck in it. I live in North East Tennessee too, so you know I tried lol. I had it in the snow storms we had in 93,96, and 98. They don't make them like they use to. I miss my truck now lol.
You can never go wrong with an old square body, cars just arent made the same anymore, In that thing you don’t have to worry about no computer, most parts stores carry just about everything you could possibly need for these things, bad ass rig man
Not sure why this popped up in my feed in August of 2020, but here we are. Liked this video at 4:12 - - “Community first”, and “treat everyone as human.” Works for me.
New subscriber here. Also Pastor Joe Fox subscriber whom you mentioned. I love your truck it is awesome. I have a 2003 GMC Sierra 2500 4wd and I love it. I also have a 77 Chev Blazer under restoration and rebuild for a BOV. I would love to have a Suburban and have been keeping an eye opren for the right deal. Thanks for your service Marine oorah!!!!!
Lots of great idea for my truck. Ive already have a few thing installed... but after watching this great video ill be adding for sure. Man i just wish in Canada they would let me carry. Shit after serving for 20yrs and still serving....i should have the freaking right to carry.
Hey man i used to think you guys were nuts. But man after a few things that happened to me personally. As well as things going on in this country i feel like i have been awoke to whats going on in world affairs. Keep the vids coming man
Love it. Had a 1993 Suburban LT. Loved driving that truck. Comfortable, reliable, quiet. It was a road queen, I was a suit and tie guy back then. This is great as well.
Haha! Sippie-Cup! Bless her heart. She was trying! But it's like having your wife hold a flashlight for you. They point everywhere except where you need light! Haha! Just kidding. She's an awesome girl, just for helping you make videos! God Bless Y'all!
My ma had an 87 when I was growing up, fully kitted out for bogging. It was destroyed because some drunk idiot plowed through our yard and hit it. Definitely my goal to recreate that beast for her. Love this video, so you definitely got yourself a new subscriber brother.
Sadly where we live in Commiefornia we can't leave ANYTHING in our vehicles as someone WILL break in, smashing windows or steal the whole vehicle with their nasty tweeker selves Lol. I lived in the Philippines for over 5 years and my wife and I had a 74 Toyota Fj40 with a 4" lift, 12" x 33" tires on bead lock rims, anti inversion shackles, power steering, roof rack with large lights, high lift jack, spare fuel cans, water cans, snorkels for typhoon season etc etc and no one touched it! Couldn't bring it to the USA with us in 2013 because the shipping would have been $3000 not including having to pay off corrupt customs officers before we ever left country. Sooooooo, we sold it.
+Matthew Green. Does every bug-out vehicle have to be modded to the gills with stuff, and always packed with stuff, just for the sake of having stuff? Not every BOV has to look like it was on the SEMA convention floor that day. I personally think SSGT Badass' 'Burban is badass, and as SSGT Badass said, it's his family daily, hence the car seats. Peace out.
I work at a tire shop and it is actually cheaper to buy a mud tire for 20in wheels rather than 15s cause now most trucks come stock with 20s so tire companys don't make as many 15 in wheel sizes so 20s are better and there better for a bug out vehicle cause like I said most trucks have 20s so if it's a apocalypse you would be able to scavenge tires off broke down vehicles
john martin I said I have a lug wrench in a doomsday scenario am I going to be able to change tires possibly I can also change Wheels pretty fast it's something to think about
Thank you for talking sence about Bug out vehicles. I had a Chevy Suburban with 4wd that would go most places. I now have a 97 ford cargo aerostar that cost almost nothing but gets 22mpg. I have basic camping gear and I could be gone for months. Its small enough to stash behing trees, bldg or in parking garages with out anyone giving it a second look. Less is more. Just my .02
My ex wife tossed the title back to me at the lawyers office because my paid for 1995 4wd Suburban was not reliable and leaked oil. She had it for 2 years before the divorce. I took it to my mechanic who tightened the ground cable and put a replacement gasket on the oil pan. Total cost $48. I drove it for 5 more years !!!!
Thanks for the walk around. I too have an 89 Suburban and you gave me some good ideas. Love looking at and talking about the square bodies. My best to you and your family.
Considered adding an additional battery for a parallel or independent system? Would come in handy for winching. Keep a fresh battery for starting while you have another powering radio, winch, roof lights or other auxiliary items. Who makes or sells that roof rack? With those gears, are you screaming at highway speed or not to bad?
Informative video thank you! My favorite model Suburban the square body solid axle trucks! You are very polite and soft spoken I sense your manners where taught growing up or military or both. If that jacket is real then thank you for your service. Few questions what size tire and wheel package is that? Who made those killer front and rear bumpers? What was that spark under neath by the winch when working it? Loose ground or squirrel? God Bless America.
I know, I'm late for the party with this video, but dang, Staff.....you're a bad influence on me! I've got other (more important?)things to spend my time & money on, but now you've got me itchin' to turn my '90 GMC pick-up 4x4 (we call it "The War Wagon")into a groovy cool bug-out vehicle like your Sub. It was my snow-plow truck, when I had a plowing business, while I lived in the Colorado mountains. It's been as far south in Florida as Miami and as far north as a little above the Arctic Circle in Alaska. The odometer quit working about 12 years ago at 386,000 miles and will still do over 100 mph easy! So....Thanks very much. My wife's not gonna be happy with you!
I love that truck. I've always liked the early model suburban over the new ones just because they're built to be abused. Very nice vid. Thanks for sharing
Back when trucks were trucks and not plastic sports utility vehicles that can't handle speed bumps. I'm very envious.
Hey my 2004 vw toureg can handle it lots of power an I can lift it up to get 11 inches of ground clearance can can go through 22 inches of water if necessary
Grizzly Country - when the chrome was thick and the women were straight!
Your approach/ never Head on just bought 87 love it

I suspect a badass beard is required when owning such a rig.
Deathstroke 0331 lol
Deathstroke 0331 my wife got a beard like that as well... she aint badass though HAHAHAHA
Haha
ULTRA NOOB
She must be a wook eh? I hear they let em in infantry now lol
A beard doesn't make the person badass, the person makes the beard badass.

Only good if she was a diesel. Gas would go bad months after the emp hits.
If China ever uses an EMP, the US will respond with a nuke.
I heard the EMP continuously pulses to take out whatever is repaired. Also they make something for vehicles but whether it will work or not it's yet TBD.

You can tell he loves his truck. It makes me happy to see this. Thanks for making this video even if I am a few years late to it.
Your channel and truck are probably the most American things I’ve ever seen in my life! I’d love a truck like this one
Man a great job by you and your wife. You have nailed all the points I had considered. A full-width security draw for those places that mandate security. Three lucky children; teach them to be capable. Greetings from Greg in Thailand
That is a bloody big truck. Very nice.
Big truck for the UK, but small for America. my little Lincoln coupe or even my two-seater Cadillac make these Suburbans look like Hotwheels cars.
TheDullahan no they’re still considered big in the us.
About the same square footage as Edna ;), eh?
Do have Chevy in the UK?

Proper video; very universal- no political bs, no preachy stuff, just good old proper information. More people need to do videos like this. Ima gonna check out more of your videos later, very impressed sir. You have a ton of decals, does that interfere with your visibility at all?
Buy a diesel if you want it to be good after gas goes bad after a few months
Just curious as to , at this late date, consider political BS?
I've always considered an early 80s or (better) 70s burban an ideal bug out vehicle.
Gotta love the suburban! The old trusty battle wagon! ✌️

sorry that was a complete waste of 26.55 of my time. you have a black truck a few bags stuck to the back doors and a farm jack on the front
Peace out.
Rob Sgt.Airborne just shoot them.
What an awesome truck!! I'm going to the the same kind of winch system on my square body. Thanks for this video!!
Thank you
First video I watched of yours, got me hooked. Good stuff man! What a beast of a machine!
Thank you
I remember my dad used to own one of these it was lifted and almost the same set up
You can't count. I see a fourth hairy kid playing with his toys & calling them tools. Lol!
Lee Stephenson funny thing is sippy drives it more than me.
I just realised your in kingsport. I love your truck man.
5.11, drago, and tactical performance are the best bags for me. This is the coolest thing I've seen, so cool
NICE RIDE!
Much respect for the beard.
I work at a tire shop and it is actually cheaper to buy a mud tire for 20in wheels rather than 15s cause now most trucks come stock with 20s so tire companys don't make as many 15 in wheel sizes so 20s are better and there better for a bug out vehicle cause like I said most trucks have 20s so if it's a apocalypse you would be able to scavenge tires off broke down vehicles
john martin I said I have a lug wrench in a doomsday scenario am I going to be able to change tires possibly I can also change Wheels pretty fast it's something to think about
15 inch steel wheels with red letter tires are old school bad ass
John M. you should make your own channel, sounds like you have a lot to say and offer folks!!! I'd subscribe.
I ran into that problem when buying some new yok ats for my power ram.
Add another spare tire
Tucker Flynn why not lol
Thank you for talking sence about Bug out vehicles. I had a Chevy Suburban with 4wd that would go most places. I now have a 97 ford cargo aerostar that cost almost nothing but gets 22mpg. I have basic camping gear and I could be gone for months. Its small enough to stash behing trees, bldg or in parking garages with out anyone giving it a second look.
Less is more. Just my .02
uscgalpha91 yeah that newer stuff these days you can't fix yourself
My ex wife tossed the title back to me at the lawyers office because my paid for 1995 4wd Suburban was not reliable and leaked oil. She had it for 2 years before the divorce. I took it to my mechanic who tightened the ground cable and put a replacement gasket on the oil pan. Total cost $48. I drove it for 5 more years !!!!
Thanks for the walk around. I too have an 89 Suburban and you gave me some good ideas. Love looking at and talking about the square bodies. My best to you and your family.
KROSNIT thank you
Shit well damn got open carry!!!!!your one of the ones that’s gonna survive a zombie attack !!!
Love the set up beautifully done!!!!
Nice ride 👍
Holy shit balls. Im suddenly sad I bought a 2001 Suburban instead of an older one. Goals!!
I wrap a old leather belt around my winch hook to keep from jamming the pintle end.
Great build !
Mine was an 89 but the 2wd version so it was a love hate relationship lol. Didn't do too bad on gas though.
RoGuExPaNcAkE good stuff brother
Informative video thank you! My favorite model Suburban the square body solid axle trucks! You are very polite and soft spoken I sense your manners where taught growing up or military or both. If that jacket is real then thank you for your service. Few questions what size tire and wheel package is that? Who made those killer front and rear bumpers? What was that spark under neath by the winch when working it? Loose ground or squirrel? God Bless America.
Has anyone added mufflers for a more stealthy BOV?
Meredith's Mayh
