As I sit here looking at my 86 K5 Blazer's rusted out rockers, I see them doing sliders out of square tubing... and now I'm VERY interested in the next episode.
It kinda makes sense that someone who used to own a suburban would watch shows and videos where you might see such vehicles. That's fun though. I often wonder if the old owners of these project vehicles you see on TV ever see them. Pretty cool.
Having that truck taught me how to work on not only GM vehicles but it taught me how to properly keep an offroad/daily alive. I replaced the rear end in that truck with my friends, had the transmission rebuilt by a local shop and installed professionally after failing to get a decent transmission from the junkyard. That truck has so many awesome stories and memories made in it. Miss it every day.

I had a 91' Blue/White burban, 6" on 35s and rebuilt the engine stroked it 388 ci. Twisted a few driveshafts, which snaps off the transfer case output. I drove back home from Silver Lake Sand Dunes with the front wheels. Also got towed back from Silver Lake because I forgot the 700R4 input shaft seal retainer clip, ya that is NOT optional, blew the seal out dragging a dead Jeep in the sand. All good times, she rusted out and had to let her go.
Budget build: Replace everything drivetrain. New engine, axels, diffs, suspension, transfer case, the works. Me coming here with my mostly stock 82 Suburban 4x4 for some budget ideas: I guess I’ll change the diff fluid and call it
I drove a 74 c10 with a sb 350 with zero oil pressure for two weeks before it finally threw a rod, it was ok until i was late for work and pushed it over 100mph on the highway
Been hunting for a 4x4 diesel square burb for years (all rotted away or overpriced in Canada), to build as an overlander/camper. For now, I'll live vicariously through you guys!
My project car was Project Crash Car, done with two model 1977 Pontiac Trans Ams painted to look exactly like the ones used in “Smokey and the Bandit“. Car one fell upside down and landed hard on the roof, bending the passenger side down. Car two fell and broke the driver’s mirror off. The two cars exchanged driver doors, finishing Project Crash Car. Car two’s dash now sits in the back seat.
I have 2 1997 4wd suburbans. Can't kill them! Drove one through a hail of horizontal flying oak trees during a tornado several years ago. Just broke the grill and radiator, plenty of hail and flying, fallen debris I rammed over and through. Good times.
I don’t mind see new faces that actually have mechanical skills, as long as none of the old hosts get screwed! I feel like we owe them respect because no matter how good we think we are, we all know they taught us a lot!
When I saw the first episode of Carcass and they put new parts on to old greasy ones I was disgusted, haven't watched since. Enter Music City Trucks, y'all washed and painted the frame and restored my faith in PowerNation. Good luck fellas, looking good so far 👍 maybe tell the yahoo's down the hall to clean up their act lol.
It has the same wheel and tire combo as my samurai. Mickey Thompson sidebiter 2s and kumho road venture MTs. The burb has at lease one backwards mounted though.

He just had to call it a "squarebody". As well, TBI small blocks in 1500 series GM trucks of that era had a 9.3:1 compression ratio and were rated at 210 horsepower, not 185.

@@EGGINFOOLS No, GM never called them that. So, 2500 and 3500 truck and van 350s had a 8.6:1 compression ratio and were rated at 190 horsepower and 1500 350s horsepower ratings dropped to 200 in 1995.
Or an Om606? That'd be cool, with one of Aqualu's FJ45 style bodies that fit on the FJ80 chassis. It'd probably end up a pretty lightweight and slinky expedition rig on coils with the aluminum body and diesel straight six weighing less than a small block!

The answer is a resounding NO as that suburban is a Garbage Motors manufactured pile of junk, and just like every other vehicle GM ever produced, all they do is break down....
looks kinda like my burb. Yall can see my olive drab 88 on tons on youtube. took the heavy pig to the oregon dunes. ( square body suburban @ coos bay oregon ) tbi 350, hydraulic bellhousing sm465 & 205, kingpin 60 5:13 detroit, f.f. 14 bolt with 5:13 & detroit, 40" nittos, etc. simple & sturdy.
I know I'll sound like a grumpy old man, but I can't help it, I am. These type shows, while somewhat entertaining, are really unrealistic. Unlimited budgets, unlimited time, full access to a lift and just about every imaginable tool. Most of us have/had day jobs.
It doesn't have a 208 unless someone added it.... will be a 241 which isn't a bad case with a couple mods. But you know... tv show means unobtanium Atlas or something lol
did they just weld the square tubing to the sheet metal of the body to make rocksliders? is that going to be a strong enough slider, is it welded all the way along the body, are there supports to the frame???? Anyone know? educate me, im about to build sliders myself as well.

Good show, much better than some of the previous ones. Camping rigs are all the rage, good first project. And Brandon seems like a youtuber, very modern and feels much less scripted and just know what they are talking about, give them more freedom as they will get more relaxed. To beat general youtubers youll need to let them just be real like a reality show.
unbreakable Square Body Suburban recipe 1x Isuzu 6BD1T with a larger turbo and a tuned pump 1x Aisin A465 gearbox 1x NP205 t-case (optional doubler) 1x built Dana 60 up front with Detroit Locker 1x built GM 14 bolt FF with Detroit Locker weld some plates in to box that frame where it needs it.
The GM 10-bolts get a bad rap when in actuality, they're easily the equal of the Dana 44. Not really what you want for big tires on a Suburban, but they will surprise you. A really good option if you're looking at a lighter vehicle and want bigger tires and lots of aftermarket choices. The big GM 10-bolts mind you, not the crappy small ones that went in the S-trucks, Astro vans, Camaros, etc. Sad to hear they're keeping the SBC though. Really needs a diesel. Even if you wanted unbreakable on a budget, you can have a GM 6.5 that will bolt right up to either that 700R4 after a beefy rebuild, or just grab a Turbo-400 or 4L80E. Big block torque, decent fuel mileage and that engine will run for 500k miles if you don't go crazy with boost pressure. Or if you're rebuilding it anyway, get a set of 18:1 pistons, an intercooler setup and a mechanical marine injection pump. It will give you all the fuel you need for higher boost and more power while still being able to stay in safe limits.
