Hello there, So interesting and thank you for all your wonderful information. I had some Mumms broccoli raab sprouting seeds and I decided to plant them in my garden on August 4 th of this year. I was so surprised of the big plants that grew and now I have the little brocollis growing in the centers. Its so exciting! I didnt know this would happen with sprouting seeds but its just fantastic.

It is delicious. I grew some for the first time this year. I started seeds indoors early and put them outside in May. One week of warmer weather caused them to bolt. I ate them anyways. The tough stalks went to our chickesn and I cooked the washed and torn leaves in hot olive oil, chopped garlic, a sprinkle of hot pepper flakes. Added salt and pepper, squeezed lemon juice over it and added a tab of butter, to create a sauce. Toasted a few pine nuts to add in and added a few dashes of parmasian cheese. The leftovers I plan to add t cooked sweet italian sausage and cooked shell pasta. Devine

Great video! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have some growing here in North Carolina, but it just will not cool off here! Highs around 80, lows around 70, and it wont be long and I should have some florets growing, hope I'm not too early.

I make rapini as a main dinner dish with a little cheese and a gourmet rustic bread. I trim then zap while covered for three minutes with a little water. The frying pan is readied with olive oil, garlic and a spicy red pepper is saute careful to not overheat the olive oil while melding the flavors. Then I throw the rapini in the hot pan for less than minute. Then garnish with fresh olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and tamari. I love it. Thank you.

Great video. Thank you! So I found the video because i was trying to figure out what kind of broccoli ended up growing over my compost heap.. It turns out it's broccoli raab. Some of the buds just started to blossom these pretty yellow flowers, so I am glad I found this video. I harvest a bunch tonight and sautéed them with garlic, salt and avocado oil SO yummy!!! Now I am wondering should I thin them out as there are many tight together..or just let them be until next season.

Harvest them all and enjoy now! They’ll soon bolt and go to seed, which may or may not surround you with harvests so ample in the future, unless you harvest the seed and plant intentionally. If you’d love to try a perennial plant that tastes similar to broccoli raab, try Turkish Rocket! We’re honored to share all these seeds with you 🧡

Thank you! I love Broccoli Rabe. I've grown just about everything known to humans but for some reason I have never thought to grow it. To be honest I thought it was Broccoli that was either very young or had been allowed to go past their prime😂

In most cold regions of the U.S., other than the far north, you could grow it all winter using a small rock wall, lava rocks, a scrap glass cover, or some of the other passive solar heat techniques that I got from All My Secrets of Organic and Container Gardening So Far. The guy developed a cheap solar oven, but the passive heat collection techniques work for season extension, too. I have had broccoli, kale, spinach, and turnips survive all winter, even with snow on the ground; and of course my perennial onions.

That is a huge plant compared to mine. I have them in a container that I admit could be deeper. That is probably a factor along with fact that mine could be a smaller variety. Still learned a lot from your video. Thanks.

My rapini is starting to bloom (was a little slow to harvest the first head...) but looks like I should still get many secondary heads out of them. It seems the first half of June will have highs in the 65-75F range (despite the high 80s we got today and yesterday). That weather description is exactly what it's like here in September and October though so I'll try again in the fall. Flea beetles aren't bad this year yet, but slugs are getting to be a bit of a pain.

Growing rapini for the first time. I have a few leaves with shiny white edges similar to the leaf you pulled while mentioning flea beetles. Not the holes, but the white spot. Should i be concerned. I don’t think it’s powdery mildew as it is shiny. Perhaps a nutritional deficiency? Or nothing to be concerned about?

To people wondering when to grow it, you can grow early in spring, and plant again at the end of summer. You will harvest them in the fall and if you get enough, just blanch them and throw them in the freezer. This is what we do!
Dont make the mistake of planting in the summer. They go spindly and flower and go to seed quickly...
Rappini(broccoli rabe) is wonderful as a vegetable, or i love it with pasta and an aglio e olio broth(garlic and olive oil)
    Try it, you'll love it!

Some of mine is yellow right no but I like that you said still delicious maybe a bit bitter ! Going to harvest tomorrow!!! 1/22/23

I am a rapini lover also... but never tried growing it. It is much cooler here in Canada. I am wondering if it would work... what do you think? When do you plant your seeds? My average last frost date is May 15th.

Rapini (and brassicas) love cool weather! It will grow great when planted in the early spring, in the shade in summer, or as a fall crop as the weather cools!

Darn, I think maybe seeds were planted too close together because i have small young leaves and lots of open yellow flowers. Should i just snip them and eat the flowers? They are about 5 weeks old.

So, I've never had luck with this, starting early or not. It grows about 4" tall and 1/8" thick and starts to bolt. I recall pruning in the past (I think??) much like you would do with Basil, and got better results after but it's never been anywhere close to thickness. I'm in Connecticut in Zone 5 - Please help!!!

Me too! I think what she said about even temperatures and moderate humidity is the key. I will try the row covers next time. It's in the mustard family btw, not broccoli.
