  • Eureka - I've found a way to make Instant Pot Duo Crisp + Airfryer Roast Potatoes Chicken and Gravy all in one pot. This recipe saves so much energy, time and washing up as, apart from steaming the veggies, it's all done in the Instant Pot. No oven required and that means lower fuel bills, especially if you love a roast dinner as we do. Hope you like it!

    This is absolutely wonderful, thank you SO much for showing us this. We'll be making this very soon. Eagerly going to look at more of your recipes. Subscribed.
    I'm thinking, if there's some room in the pot, you could wrap up some veg in foil to pressure cook them also (as you did with the initial potato cook)
    Loved the music!

      Hi Hannah - yes just two of us here too and I would have done the same, but lucky for me there was only the 8 available here when I got mine . It's really encouraged me to batch cook more but it is also soooo big. Thanks so much for lovely feedback 🙏😊

    I made this last weekend because my Mum didn't like her large instant pot duo crisp and gave it to me! I finally had space for a chicken. It was delicious. My partner was most chuffed as he got a roast and less washing up to do after. 😊
    I am now wondering what to do with the smaller duo crisp!

      Great job and what a nice gift! I find it very hard to 'move on' my old instant pots :)
      n case you've not seen, there's a similar chicken one pot recipe I made when I was testing the IP with the Ultimate Lid version you and your partner might like . This one has got a cider/apple based sauce. So good. It's here & will work fine in the Crisp. ua-cam.com/video/DR64e1SbprI/v-deo.html

    Please do a video on how to cook proper British roast beef in the instant pot duo crisp! All the videos I found are for American pot roast which is just not the same!

    • @CookingandCalm
      @CookingandCalm  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Jamie. Do you know, I've never cooked roast beef in the IP Duo Crisp as we so rarely eat it. If prices come down I'll do some testing.
      In the meantime, there's something people rave about called '4 minute beef' from the Instant Pot UK facebook community. Here's a link to the timings: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MR-SxHX0QNAYlw0zAxPsGL7henWEo94Y2sFvChyIbpY/edit?fbclid=IwAR3yJckBcuWVyhdQaTpkSrK3fg7fQ6atjgMwUGhKkVFT3vj3QV19qFpk1XQ#gid=0
      With the Crisp, I'd probably use the IP Duo Crisp Air Fryer Lid either at the beginning or end to give it that lovely brown crust rather than sauteeing. If you search '4 minute beef' on google you'll get some info on that method.
      Otherwise, I'd probably use the roast setting on the IP duo crisp, just as you would roasting beef in an oven, but reducing the temp by about 10-20C as I find the IP is way hotter than my oven. I'd use a thermometer and keep removing the lid to check how it's doing. The temperatures I use are: Rare 50C, Medium 60C ,Well Done 70C. then rest it for at least 20 mins
      Sorry to not be of more help but I hope that's a start...

    • @CookingandCalm
      @CookingandCalm  2 роки тому +1

      Hi there Vanessa and hope you are enjoying your experiments. I tend to steam my more delicate veg like broccoli separately on the hob as I find it hard to get the timing right in the pressure cooker. The 'Steam' function is actually under pressure so not like a normal steamer. You can use the steam function for stuff like carrots as they are less likely to go mushy and if you do want to steam a load of greens try doing it on '0' or '1' minute steam or low pressure and see how it suits for you - or just use sauté and a lid as you would a saucepan. I hope that helps.

    • @davepegington9066

      Can I add please.
      The steam function is very powerful in the duo crisp (I have pro)
      But I cook broccoli and carrots (which are usually veg which require more cooking to soften up)
      In no time at all.
      Just add one cup of water. Place veg in basket place that inside the inner pot and put on high pressure (pressure cooker mode) .
      The moment the pressure is reached and the valve pops up.. you can immediately turn off and immediately vent the steam!
      Its very quick!
      Alternatively if you like the veg softer simply in for 1 or 2 minutes longer before venting / after the valve pops up , (but with device turned off in keep warm mode)
      If you get what I mean?
      It's much quicker than steaming and my preferred method

      @@CookingandCalm hi .
      Thanks for your video
      Is it right you said steam is under pressure? Because I thought I can steam with the lid off ? Or perhaps I got confused and steam was continuing to come out of mine due to residual heat after removing lid?
      If the lid is off surely it can't be under pressure?

  • @handlep1
    @handlep1 Рік тому +1

    Hi, I have a question regarding the quick release after the 15 minutes for the chicken (timestamp 3:15). Is this immediately after the 15 minutes pressure cooking, or have you left the pot to stand for another 15 minutes after the pressure cooking, and then released remaining steam? I ask because at that point in the video when you press the release button, there is very little steam released. Same question goes for the 5 minutes after pressure cooking the spuds. I followed the recipe by the way, great chicken, my other half said it tasted more 'chickeny' than when done in the oven 🙂

    • @CookingandCalm
      @CookingandCalm  Рік тому +1

      Hi there, Yes it is immediate but you can't see that one the video due to editing and getting my camera out of the way of the steam - for the confusion. 'More chickeny' is a great description - the pressure cooker keeps all the flavours in so your other half is spot on! :)

    • @CookingandCalm
      @CookingandCalm  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Vicki, I used air fry for this one as I was more wanting the 'quick crisp' rather than cooking through. I've done something not far away from this with Beef Brisket but not quite the same. Let me know how you get on if you do it - love to hear 👍😊

      @@CookingandCalm I don't think this method works with beef. I couldn't find room for the two thickly sliced potatoes on the side so I put them under the roast. I did everything as per your video but I had to check the roast at 20 minutes and it was done. Potatoes sort of crispish mash, onion gravy OK, roast a bit overdone. Over all edible but too much fiddling and yes, I hate the quick release, must also remember not to use the thing on my counter as the steam going up my top cabinets can't be good. All in all....needs work. This is my second instant Pot, love my original, jury still out on this one.

      Hi there Cassia. Hope things are good with you. I like experimenting! No, I tend to steam the veg in a separate pan as I am still using the IP for the mushroom gravy/sauce at that stage. It's still a lot less washing up though :)

      I do if I'm doing anything with stock in or a lot of liquid. This one is just a little thick gravy very low down in the pot so I think of it like I'm sticking it under grill/broiler. Having said that, I'd check your manual as I don't have the Pro Crisp and maybe stick with more straightforward techniques when you're learning. It's a lot of fun.
