The orchestrations on this wonderful album hark back to the track Mr.Harris from Whatever .... primarily piano with strings and woodwinds(?) so if you like that track you'll love this album.
Hi Alex. thanks for featuring Aimee Mann. She consistently releases fantastic records and "Queens of Summer Hotel" is no exception! I love the orchestration on this album and of course her sublime voice and songwriting is spot on as usual. Hard to pick a favorite Mann album, Bachelor No 2 is definitely up there aided by long time collaborator Jon Brion (if you haven't yet please check out his one solo album Meaningless). I have a soft spot for the early more jangle/power pop oriented Whatever and I'm With Stupid albums. I'm also a fan of Michael Penn, my favorite of his stellar albums is Resigned. Take care. / Matt
Thank you for the info. I had “I’m With Stupid “ on continuously in my car’s cassette player when it first came out. This is the album that started to really showcase her talent. I own Michael’s album “March” which I enjoy. I will definitely check out his album “Resigned”. Thank you for watching
Great album. This really seems to be influenced by Nilsson. Especially his first 2 albums. Cover art looks like a GbV release. Sadly, Michael Penn appears nowhere as a guest on here.
That’s OK. That’s what makes horse racing. One thing about Aimee’s new album is it being based on the book Girl, Interrupted. If you know the story, the album makes more sense. Thank you for watching
I'm a big Aimee Mann fan too and the minute I heard "You Fall" I was already in love. The strings, the flutes, ugh! Your review was spot on as well.
